Olga Villireal
Hello. My name is Olga Villarreal and I am the proud owner of San
Diego Eyelash Extensions. I have been doing eyelash extensions
since 2006. I am a Licensed Master Esthetician, Certified Makeup
Artist from several beauty schools, awarded ITEC Diploma for
Beauty Specialist, Certified Eyelash Artist/ Trainer/ Distributor. I
have trained with world wide Lash Masters Irina Levchuk and
Teresa Smith and completed Online Volume bootcamp training
with LashFx and Sugarlash for Eyelash Extensions. I am Certified
NEESA and BAALA member.
My passion is using my wide range of lash techniques to enhance
my clients natural beauty!
I am thrilled every time I give a client lash extensions and see her
renewed confidence and pride in her appearance. When a client
comes to me for eyelash extensions, I take into consideration every
87
detail of her face and her personal style in order to choose the best
look.
I have always had a passion for beauty; what is better than to make
your passion your career? However, it wasn’t as easy as it might
seem.
My mother and my grandmother had both been seamstress and I
felt that fashion was my calling. I had taken sewing classes during
high school. After high school, I attended fashion school in Los
Angeles, California because it was my dream to become a fashion
designer. While attending fashion school, I worked for two
prestigious companies as a designers assistant, production
managers assistant, and in quality control where I earned the
nickname ‘eagle eyes’.
I could easily find any tiny hole on a dress that was sent back. After
a couple of years in school and, facing bad experiences with
roommates I was forced to move back to San Diego, California. I
continued attending college to earn a degree. After becoming
discouraged with the opportunities offered at the time in the
fashion industry I ended up accepting a sales position in a bridal
store.

After a couple of years in all types of sales I moved back home with
my parents in Mexico and later was married. I had two wonderful
boys. I enrolled in an Esthetician school in the U.S. since I had
always had suffered from skin blemishes. I attended 100 hours and
they informed me my financial aid was not approved.
I then enrolled in a school in Tijuana, Mexico and attended every
Saturday for the next two years. While I was trying to finish my
testing, my instructor was shot and killed in her spa and I was
unable to complete the testing. During that time I also took a
permanent makeup and eyelash extensions certification.
After losing my instructor in the Tijuana Esthetician school, I moved
to San Diego, I felt that I was going to be able to get back to my
career and complete my schooling on my third attempt. I enrolled
back into aesthetic school while working a full time job and taking
care of two little boys 4yrs and 6yrs at that time.
During my schooling I had five different instructors which were not
interested in teaching theory. I took the esthetics test three times
during a 6 month period and finally passed to receive my
certification. The testing had an added challenge for me to re-learn
all of the terminology in English as I had originally learned much of
this in Spanish. During this time, I also attended makeup school
89
and became a certified makeup artist. I started working as a
freelance makeup artist until I opened my first business in airbrush
tanning.
I did well enough to cover my rent in just a few months, but I had
gone to school to be an esthetician and did not feel that airbrush
tanning work was moving my career in the right direction. When
an opportunity came up to work with a newly opening spa I jumped
into it. I closed my airbrush business and worked on commission
while still taking gigs as a makeup artist. A year later the spa owner
suddenly closed her spa and disappeared.
When the spa disappeared, I decided to open my own spa. I
partnered with another esthetician on a new space and we both ran
our own business separately but shared a space of 450 sq ft. I found
myself struggling to gain more clients and I decided to go back to
school to get my master’s in aesthetics because I felt I didn’t learn
enough the first 600 hours.
While running my spa and going to school, I found my first job
doing eyelash extensions to supplement my spa income and learn
the eyelash business. I worked doing eyelashes for almost a year
and learned the basics, but the owner moved her studio farther
south and the commute made the work unfeasible.
90
I decided to find a better paying eyelash job in order to continue
school and keep working. I was able to find a better position doing
eyelash extensions. This time, the owner really paid attention to my
work and helped me out in any way possible. I learned about the
possibility of teaching eyelash extensions. While researching
companies, I found a company that was building up and I jumped
at the opportunity. I was lucky enough to be one of the first in the
Minkys family! Three years later I am a master esthetician, an
eyelash extensions trainer, learning, teaching and have become a
distributor.
Within the past year I have discovered the world of Volume eyelash
extensions. My business has expanded greatly and continues to
grow. I am confident in my work and what I can accomplish, my
clients are happy and that makes me happy. I have recently
expanded into a much larger location with additional chairs and
plan to start adding staff. Becoming an Eyelash entrepreneur has
been the best decision I ever made!
