THE PRODUCT THE PRINCIPLE

ROFIN FL SERIES

Absolutely Precise, Absolutely ReliableOptically and electronically modular designedpumping units that are easy to maintain

High beam quality allows small focal spots and atthe same time large working distances

No contamination of processing optics due to thelong distance to the workpiece

Distortion optimized welding – mainly smallercomponents with less or no heat capacity or conductivity

High-power densities allow new welding techniques, such as oscillation or wobbling and therefore providethe development of new applications

High absorption in many materials thanks to awavelength in the range of 1 µm

Maximum speed while cutting and welding thinmaterials – unachievable with conventional beamsources

Increased productivity and reduced cycle times with“dynamic beam” scanner systems: different positionsand small geometries at workpieces are approachedfast and precisely

Beam profile of a FL 010 S – 1,000 Watt with single-mode

Variable weld geometries due to a wide range ofoptical fibers

Fiber-fiber switch and energy splitter for ideal utilization

Fiber lasers use special fiber optics as active mediumwith thicknesses of only a few µm, which produces highperformance at optimal beam quality. The mirrors of theresonator are used as fiber bragg gratings (FBGs) todefine the wavelength of a fiber laser.

Pumped light from focused high-power laser diodes createa beam that is coupled by so called pump couplers intothe resonator and results in the active fiber excitation.

Opposite to common concepts in which the created laserbeam switches repeatedly between air and the laser active

medium, this laser beam does not leave the fiber opticbefore the process optic (single-mode) or the beam switch(multi-mode). Due to this “all-in-glass” technology, the riskof contamination of the optics, and therefore a reductionof the beam quality, can be eliminated.

The laser light is guided by process fibers to the workpiece, where it can be focused for the particular application. Theuse of innovative scanner techniques for cutting andwelding is also possible.

New Peak Performances Thanks to Thinnest Fiber OpticsIdeal Beam Quality for Every ApplicationThe high brightness fiber lasers of the ROFIN FL Series are the ideal addition to compliment the range of lasers currentlyoffered by ROFIN. With their high performance, they are suitable for classical cutting and welding applications as wellas for various high speed, scanner-based applications.

The emitted wavelength in the range of 1 µm achieves high absorption in many materials, such that all commonsolid-state laser applications can be performed using the FL Series laser. With the multi-mode version of the FL laser, fiber optics of 50 to 600 µm can be used. The single-mode version produces exceptionally good beam quality, typically in the range of ≤ 0.4 mm x mrad. The excellent beam quality also allows the efficient use of “dynamic beam”scanner systems for high-speed positioning as well as the fast and precise application of small geometries atworkpieces. This reduces cycle times and increases productivity.

Beam switches and energy splitters are available as an option, which allows up to four working stations to be operated with onlyone laser. Non-productive times are reduced and the utilization ofthe laser is increased.

For easy integration into existing machining concepts, the compactversion of the fiber laser is available as an alternative system solution.

ROFIN utilizes more than 35 years experience with its provenproduct quality and service concept to achieve the ideal beam forevery application.
