YEAR 7-11 PARENT/TEACHER/STUDENT INTERVIEWS
Semester One Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews will take place for all students in Years 7-11 on:
Tuesday 2nd July between 3.30pm-7.30pm, and Wednesday 3rd July between 9.30am-7.30pm.
Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews are a critical opportunity for key contributors to a child's
education to meet face-to-face, reflect on past accomplishments and plan for future
improvements. As such, every student in Years 7-11 is required to attend the upcoming Parent/
Teacher/Student Interviews accompanied by at least one parent or guardian. Students should
attend in full College uniform, including blazer.
Meeting times will once again be booked and managed using the College's Parent Portal.
Instructions for making bookings (including Parent Portal access codes) will be included with your
son or daughter's Semester One report, which will be distributed on Wednesday, 26 June. We
recommend that you access the Parent Portal to confirm your bookings immediately upon receipt
of the Semester One report, as time slots often fill up quickly. (More information inside)

The Staff Development Day will be rescheduled later in the year. We have moved

July.
HALF YEARLY REPORTS: A reminder that half Yearly reports will be distributed in the next week and Parent/Teacher/Student
interviews will also be held this term.

making the finals. Good luck tonight and congratulations to all those teachers and students.

to the teams and their coaches for their fine efforts.
LASALLE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL: The Sports Athletics Carnival is a compulsory school day. This will be held now on Tuesday 23rd
July, the second day back for Term 3. All students are expected to be at the school to travel on the buses to the venue by

enjoyed the experience.
Year 8 were involved in a cross KLA experience with half the group attending the PDHPE excursion and
the other half attending the Reflection Day. They will swap groups on Monday.

LASALLE CATHOLIC COLLEGE ALUMNI RETURNS TO CELEBRATE SUCCESS WITH SCHOOL COMMUNITY Recently Nass Aoun, one of the College's highly successful alumni, generously gave
of his time to return to LaSalle and speak to students about how they can live their
lives with commitment and confidence to find success.
This was a wonderful opportunity for students to hear about the values, practices
and intrapersonal qualities that can guide our young people to lead meaningful
lives after secondary school.
Even better, Mr Aoun stands as a reminder to students of the heights individuals
from our school community can reach once they have been instilled with our
foundational Lasallian values.
We thank Mr Aoun for his time, and have provided excerpts of his address to the College below.
“Just being here, I think, is a major advantage because of the path LaSalle sets its students on as a matter of course.
I am, of course, referring the College’s three principles, that everyone in the hall should know. These principles are
Commitment, Confidence and Success. These principles are there to be understood and applied, not only during school
but outside school as well.
You might not realise it while you are at school, but you will one day look back and realise how important they are. I
know they have been instrumental to me, both in my personal life and in setting up Flexi Africa, and I would like to take
a few moments to reflect on each of them and what they mean to me.
Tuesday 2nd July
Session 1: 3.30pm - 5.30pm
Session 2: 6.10 - 7.30pm

Commitment is my favourite principle because it is about dedication to
a cause you truly believe in.
It reminds you not to waste time on nonsense and concentrate on the
important things in life; to create something you have dreamed of and
to make the things that are important to you work.
I made a commitment after school that I wanted to change something
for the better and I found that passion when I went to Africa and started
a venture to improve African lives by improving local businesses'
export opportunities.
Staying 100% committed to your goal is one of the most fundamental
principles of success. The goals can vary from leading a healthier life, having a better relationship, or improving work
results, but the commitment remains the fundamental ingredient.
Confidence will come naturally once you proceed down the path you have committed to, but it requires some work and
means taking small steps that leave a lasting sense of accomplishment. That includes even small successes here at school.
As your confidence grows, you’ll find yourself more driven to stretch your abilities.
Of course, you will still have those “what-if” moments before any new venture: “What if I fail?”; “What if I embarrass
myself?”; “What will my parents and friends think of me if I fail?”.
But as your confidence and self-assurance grow, those thoughts will come less often or no longer be paralyzing when
they do. Instead, you’ll be able to grin and act anyway, feeling energized by your progress in pursuing goals that mean
something to you.
To do something that you never have done before requires confidence.
It is Important to see possible successes and banish potential failures. It is important to stick to the plan. You do not want
to live in a world of could have, should have and would have.
Finally, we have Success.
They say driven people are driven by goals, but I have personally learnt that much of life’s happiness, much of our
feelings of fulfillment come from the realization we are “walking the path”, rather than reaching our destination.
Success must be found each day, sometimes even in small accomplishments. We must find success in the little prizes, like
learning something new in class and developing positive habits, of getting past our own self-imposed limitations and
milestones.
We might not notice it by looking at them, but successful people are constantly improving, growing and setting new
benchmarks for themselves each and every day. Successes in their lives, no matter how large or small, have equal value,
with one being no more important than another.
LaSalle’s three principles of commitment, confidence and success form a perfect circle . They strengthen each
other. They helped me, and they will help you if you let them.” Nass Aoun, Co-Founder of Flexi Africa

CASPA REHEARSAL PERFORMANCE
The Year 9 Elective Music class, along with a selection of Year 7 and
Year 8 students viewed the CaSPA (Catholic Schools Performing
Arts) Rehearsal Performance at the International Convention Centre
in Darling Harbour on Tuesday, 18th June 2019.
The show, in its 20th year provides opportunities for students and
teachers to work in collaboration and grow through the performing
arts. Each year the CaSPA event showcases the talents of students
from a wide range of Sydney Catholic Schools in the areas of Dance,
Voice, Drama and Music. Our students were inspired by the talent
and confidence embodied on stage and appreciated the energy and
positivity of the overall theme of encouraging inclusivity within both our Catholic and indigenous communities.
Thank you to Mrs Sara Giorgiutti, Mr Peter Cartledge and Mrs Heather Woods for accompanying the students.
