LCMS Academic Team
The LCMS Academic Team has started practices for the year. There are
approximately 30 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who are currently participating in the
Academic Team. TNT 8th Grade Math teacher, Doris Jean Holleran, is the coach of
the Academic Team.
LCMS participates in the Heartland League with seven other area schools. League
competitions are Saturday, October 16th at West Hardin Middle School and
Saturday, November 20th at East Hardin Middle School.
A smaller group of Quick Recall students will compete in the Knowledge Masters
competition at the HCEC‐TV station in Elizabethtown on November 18th. The
match will be taped and televised a couple of weeks later on the HCEC‐TV station.
District Governor’s Cup Competition will be held on Saturday, January 22nd and
Regional Governor’s Cup will be held on Saturday, February 5th. In addition to
Quick Recall, students can take Assessment Tests in Language Arts, Social Studies,
Science, Math or Arts & Humanities.
We will also have a Future Problem Solving Team (FPS) and students who
compete in English Composition (On Demand writing).
Ms. Holleran would especially like to have more 6th graders join the Academic
Team. There will be a Sixth Grade Showcase Competition for 6th graders on
Saturday, December 4th. Some practices for 6th graders only will be scheduled
during October and November. Dates will be announced soon.
If you are interested in being on the Academic Team, contact Ms. Holleran by
email.

October 1, 2010 [THE LARUE COUNTY BRIDGE]
Free College Credit!
A partnership between LaRue County Adult and Family Education and Elizabethtown Community and
Technical College to offer free college classes is available at the LaRue County Learning Center.
Currently, you may obtain credit for Developmental Math 055 and/or 065 by attending classes at LaRue
County Adult and Family Education and passing an exit exam. Once you enroll at ECTC and take at least
one class, the free classes offered through Adult Education will appear on your transcript. Phone Sarah
Hornback at the Learning Center for more information at 358‐8334.
LaRue County Reads
Being a volunteer tutor with LaRue County Reads is a great way to impact the future. Reading is the
cornerstone of academic success; volunteers and sponsoring employers are helping build strong
readers. For as little as 30 minutes a week, you can make a real difference in the life of a child both now
and in the future. For more information about the next tutor training contact Sarah Hornback at 358‐
8334.
Kelly Dean Sanders Memorial Fund
The Kelly Dean Sanders Memorial Fund was established to give assistance to the indigent children of
LaRue County and is entirely supported by the generosity of LaRue Countians. While some limited
medical and dental services are provided, the vast majority of the fund is used to purchase clothing for
needy children in the form of $30 vouchers that can be spent at three LaRue County businesses: Dollar
General, Family Dollar, and Pamida. Contributions come from civic clubs, religious groups, businesses,
individuals, Memorial gifts, bequests in wills, and an annual fund drive at each LaRue County school.
Collected from LaRue Countians, for the benefit of LaRue children, and spent at LaRue County
businesses, donations to the Kelly Dean Sanders Memorial Fund truly show neighbors helping neighbors.
All deductions are tax deductible and there are no administrative costs deducted from the fund.
LaRue County Community Early Childhood Council
The mission of the LaRue County Community Early Childhood Council is to maximize resources and
encourage collaboration to improve early childhood education in LaRue County. Whether a child is
being cared for at home, in a center, or in an early childhood program, the Council is dedicated to
helping LaRue County’s children through training, materials, advocacy and collaboration. The Council is
sponsoring an inexpensive ($10) six‐hour training on October 16 on lesson planning and
developmentally appropriate practice at the LaRue County Extension Office. Parents are welcome to
attend. Call Sarah Hornback at 358‐8334 for more information.
