ELA FIELD TRIP: JOURNALISM

What: A group tour of KSNV news 3 NBC station in Las Vegas, NV

When: Friday, September 27, 2019 from 10:30 am -12:30

Where: 1500 Foremaster Lane, Las Vegas, NV 89101. After the tour, we will have lunch at a nearby park

Who: 8th grade students (20), and a teacher (Charity Marshall). We can only have 20 students. First come, first serve, so sign up soon!!

Details: They have a small lobby, so they kindly ask that guests do not arrive more than 15 minutes early. Guest parking is limited with most of the parking available on the street. Jen Rochford and/or Kacie Hackley will lead the tour.

HOW TO WRITE SHORT ANSWER RESPONSES

• Read the selection the question is asking about at least 2 times

• Read it out loud so that the words stay in your mind

• If it is a longer reading, such as a short story, skim the reading for important words and details

• Decide what details and quotes you are going to use from the reading to support your answer

• Type your response in a word processor that has spell check, such as Microsoft word

• Write at least 3-5 sentences. Write 1 sentence for each point that the question is worth.

• 4 points= at least 4 sentences (in 1 paragraph)

• 12 points = at least 12 sentences (in 3 paragraphs)

• It can be any book of your choice that you are reading for fun throughout the semester.

● Personal Narratives allow you to share your life with others and vicariously experience the things that happen around you. Your job as a writer is to put the reader in the midst of the action letting him or her live through an experience.

○ Blast from the Past-Write a story from the perspective of a person from the past (an explorer, a cowboy, a president, a queen, an adventurer, a scientist, etc.). Put yourself in that story, and include historical details that add a realistic touch to the writing.
