PURPOSE

• The purpose of language arts is:

• Increase reading comprehension skills using a variety of material, both fiction and non fiction.

• Increase reading fluency.

• Increase confidence in reading skills.

• Build vocabulary and spelling skills.

• Learn skills to help organize and strengthen writing.

• Gain needed support for research projects and papers assigned in social studies.

• Design and implement special education and general education programs to meet IEP goals and ensure necessary accommodations are followed.

MATERIALS/CURRICULUM

• Students will use a variety of material including:

• INSIDE Reading

• Read Naturally/Six Minute Solutions

• Step Up to Writing

• Scope Magazine

• Novels- 7th Grade will read Ghost Canoe

GRADING

• Students will be graded based on:

• Classroom participation

• Reading comprehension assessments

• Writing assessments/samples

• Homework
