The station hardscape design proved to be one of the most challenging aspects of the design due to the dynamic nature of city driven projects. To ensure proper installation we developed many station details similar to detail “A”, on the right.

STATION DESIGN

The signage plans were created for the two station platforms which Kimley-Horn was responsible for along Palomar Street. We also developed signage details which depicted exactly how each sign would appear in its corresponding location on the platforms.

WAYFINDING

The Palomar Street bus rapid transit project is a four mile corridor, enhancing the broader BRT connection between Tiajuana (Mexico), and San Diego (USA). I produced multiple iterations of irrigation, signage, station design, and landscape plans for the Palomar Street corridor over the year-long cooperative I was working for Kimley-Horn in San Diego.

The section perspective above displays a portion of my site-specific design, depicting the dynamic nature of wetlands and the element of tourism which the reserve attracts. The ultimate goal of the program is to increase waterfowl and other wetland habitat to mitigate the loss of wildlife as a result of the oil mining.

This environmental planning project focused on mitigating the effects fracking is having in western North Dakota on the Bakken formation. Using ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Google Earth, Illustrator, Photoshop, and SketchUp, I developed the following presentation graphics to fulfill my program of further establishing wetlands in conjunction with art and culture to increase tourism revenues.

The first portion of the project is the redevelopment of A-Avenue which includes the implementation of permeable pavers, and infiltration basins along the streetscape. The second portion of the project includes the design and detailing of an entrance plaza in Kimball Park which is adjacent the south end of A-Avenue. This entrance plaza incorporates a xeriscape demonstration garden irrigated by a cistern collecting stormwater within the park.

XERISCAPE DEMONSTRATION GARDENThe demonstration garden at the new entrance to Kimball Park was designed with a large variety of low water shrubs and succulent species. The demonstration garden is irrigated by way of a cistern installed in the center of the park.

KIMBALL PARK ENTRANCE HARDSCAPEThe plaza design was derived off of existing hardscape elements in the surrounding area to maintain continuity between the design and its surroundings. The design included an art fence which would be utilized for local art displays throughout the park.

JLG - COLLECTED WORKS2013 SUMMER INTERNSHIPBismarck, North DakotaJLG Architects, 2013

During the summer of 2013 I interned with JLG Architects in their Bismarck office. Throughout the three months, I assisted with project proposals, concept development, construction documents, construction administration as well as marketing efforts. I met with clients, city officials, project stakeholders, and construction contractors throughout the development of various projects.

THE TOASTED FROG - OUTDOOR DININGInfluenced by a new city policy allowing outdoor dining, I worked closely with the owner of The Toasted Frog to design a unique custom fabricated outdoor dining space. I worked closely with the client and city planners to solve issues and grant approval from the Bismarck City board for the construction of the project.

I assisted in the construction administration for the track resurfacing of the Bismarck State Community Bowl project. I also produced this plan rendering as a presentation and marketing graphic for JLG Architects.

The plan rendering above served as a proposal presentation graphic for a new YMCA building and plaza which connects to the existing Raging Rivers water park in Mandan, North Dakota.

Page 10: Landscape Architecture Undergraduate Work Samples

Beyond the irrigation design, I assisted in the placement and color coordination of the shade structures for the playground, the detailing of the various park improvements, as well as the layout of sidewalk control and expansion joints throughout the park.

PLAYGROUND SHADE STRUCTURES

This irrigation design consisted of 98 valves utilizing point source drip emitters, root watering systems, rotors, and turf rotators. Due to a lack of pressure at the site, the irrigation system required a 250psi booster pump to function after installation.

A nearby neighborhood to the McCarren International airport was promised a community park to revitalize an adjacent desert lot. The Clark County Community got what they were promised with $33 million towards a pivotal green space. I designed and produced a full irrigation plan, as well as significantly contributed to the site hardscape and park improvement details.

OWAKA PARKREMEDIATION + PLANTING DESIGN STUDIOSt. Paul, MinnesotaNDSU, 2013

This undergraduate studio project focused on remediating, and repurposing the Pig’s Eye Landfill in St. Paul, MN. The nearby, Indian Mounds Park, a historic site of the Native American Hopewellian culture, inspired the design concept for Owaka Park.

CREATIVE WORKSMISCELLANEOUS STUDIO DESIGNSFargo, North DakotaNDSU, 2012, 2013

This section contains a small collection of research and travel based projects. Travelling has had a very positive impact on my life and development as a landscape architecture student. I am very passionate about travelling and the continuous learning that is associated with becoming immersed in different cultures and communities.

URBAN TRANSFORMATION MODELThe model above was designed to communicate the results of research which I conducted on the urban transformation of Barcelona, Spain as a result of the 1992 Olympics. I used hand sketches, SketchUp, AutoCAD, a laser cutter, and a wood shop to produce the model.

Page 15: Landscape Architecture Undergraduate Work Samples

WAVES OF STORMSThis is an abstract graphical representation of Puerto Rico’s erratic weather conditions. Using photos I took during my travels, the graphic depicts the unpredictable weather conditions of the tropical island.

WESTERN EUROPE STUDY ABROADFor a duration of three months during the Spring of 2012, I had the opportunity to travel, and study in France, Germany, Portugal and Spain. Becoming immersed in various communities, I was able to study how culture and tradition can form the landscape.
