Description: As a small town, Starkville, Mississippi draws much of its interest from Mississippi Sinterest from Mississippi State University. Unfortunately, the campus suffers a severance from the surrounding town. There is a significant lack of development and character between the MSU campus and Starkville’s Key areas such as downtown Starkville and the historic Cotton District. In an effort to gain a connection between these important nodes, The Starkville Urban Revitalization project sought to develop solutions thsolutions that would create a continuation of character and an increase in pedestrian activity. Displayed are Inventory and analysis data graphics that were generated in order to aid in making proper design decisions that would meet the project’s goals.

Description: To create a strong connection between the Mississippi State University campus and the city of Starkville’s most significant nodes, the Starkville Urban Revitalization master plan was created. In this plan, Russell Street was rerouted to serve as the main union of both rerouted to serve as the main union of both vehicular and pedestrian traffic between the MSU campus, Downtown Starkville, and the historic Cotton District. Using a vibrant blend of mixed-use, mumulti-family, and single-family development, 1,886 dwelling units (11.56 units per acre) and 534,849 square feet of commercial development were proposed. As commercial and mixed-use development tend to create areas of high pedestrian activity, their placement occurred occurred at key connections of the site’s boundaries such as downtown, Highway 12, the Cotton District, and the MSU campus. To reduce the environmental impact of this development, a green street that channels stormwater runoff into a detention facility was proposed as well as a light rail transit station to encourage the use of public transport. Various public parks of many sizes and styles were also provided to encourage outdoor activity within the community. activity within the community.

Description: Within the development of the Starkville Urban Revitalization project is the Starkville public park. This park is surrounded by an energetic blend of both surrounded by an energetic blend of both mixed-use development and multi-family housing and is completely contained within an oval-shaped roadway. As the park is encircled by high activity zones and is encircled by high activity zones and is within close walking distance of other nodes of high activity, this park’s location is readily available to many people. One of the main features of the park is the road that bisects through the middle. While this roadway can serve as a means of transport for both vehicles and pedestrians, it also can be used as a plaza when blocked off with removable bollards. With the bollards in place, the two portions of the portions of the park function as a whole and can support an outdoor event such as a farmer’s market or community fair. Another feature of this park is the amphitheatre. Complete with tiered seating areas and an overhead structure, this amphitheamphitheatre would be able to function as a venue for nearly any performance. Other features of the park include two fountains, seating areas, and on-street parking.

Description: In order to generate an accurate and competitive construction bid price for the Singing River Hospital Administration Building project, cost estimproject, cost estimation figures were calcufigures were calculated to project the development’s total cost. Based on the plant materials and irrigation system of the project, these figures include production costs (materials, equipment, and and labor prices), general conditions costs, and margins and markups. Unit prices were also calculated for various components of the development’s irrigation system to give the client an estimated price on a per-unit basis. (The Singing River basis.
