An eight legged dog with a snake like snout and tail provide up to a 30 meter reach for the mobile landing bus. The landing bus operates up to 30 kilometers from the power bus and main transport. The snake touches the surface it is mining with a hollow tube equipped with MEMS based plasma handling rings throughout its length. A powerful shortwave laser beam is directed out of the end of the tube onto a millimeter sized spot. Under the action of the shortwave laser a cubic millimeter of rock vaporizes into charged plasma. The plasma is processed as it moves toward the mass spectrometer. There a charged reectron performs the nal separation which segregates the desired species from the tailings. These tailings will be deposited in well dened locations and recorded for later retrieval. Desired species include the platinum metal group including gold. Tailings include valued metals for use in space. Metals like aluminum, iron and nickel. The dog is capable of moving along the length of the snake. In effect lengthening its tail and shortening its snout. The landing bus is also capable of coiling the snake for easy transport. 30 meters Return Aeroshell Earth Return
