Brief history of Azerbaijan oil industry

BASIC FACTS about Azerbaijan Oil Industry
• Azerbaijan Oil industry has began rise after 1860
• In the end of IX century 50% of oil in the World was extracted in Azerbaijan (10 mln. ton/year)
• Till 1950 more than 90% of Soviet Union oil industry was connected with Azerbaijan oil
• Till falling down of Soviet Union in Azerbaijan was extracted about 1 billion ton crude oil
• Azerbaijan had several petroleum chemical plants and machine-building industry for oil industry. The capital city of Azerbaijan- Baku was called as “Oil Academy” of Soviet Union
BASIC FACTS about Azerbaijan Oil Industry
• Production of crude oil after Soviet Union was reduce till 5-10 mln ton/year
• 2003 was extracted more than 14 mln.ton
• Consortium plans to increase the production till 50 mln. ton/year ton in the near future
• After Soviet Union Azerbaijan have lost its position in the machine-building and petroleum chemical industry
• At the moment work only 10-15% of oil factories of Azerbaijan which were builded
• There was established State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan for spending oil revenue efficiently
• But this Fund is under control of Azerbaijan President and has not transparency
