On Monday I aended a compliance inspection training course in London and whilst I can think of more exciting ways to spend my time, it was certainly very useful. On Tuesday and Wednesday I aended the annual Woodard Conference in Leamington Spa and this was also very useful; we had a range of inspirational speakers and the presentation from John Herbert, Academic Deputy at Lancing College, was superb. In my absence, school ran smoothly and happily. The children were busy and enjoying their learning as usual. On Thursday we welcomed thirteen Year 6 pupils from local schools for a taster day and they fied in beautifully. Our current pupils worked hard to ensure that they felt welcome in our school and they were pleased to make new friends too. Our Reception class is now very nearly full for the next academic year and we will, for the first time, in my time here, open a waiting list for places. It would appear that there is a positive message in Worthing and the surrounding area which is encouraging and exciting for the future. This afternoon our chess team consisting of Danny B, Zen R, Phillip C and Oliver S are aending the Primary Cup Chess Competition in Angmering. Our chess is developing very quickly at the moment and our talented children are bringing a lot of excitement into school with them. Zen R has been selected as part of the Sussex U9 Squad and entered his first county tournament against Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Berkshire last weekend. Sussex made it through to the semi- finals which take place next month and Zen won all three of his games. My sincere apologies to Unaysah K, Sebastiaan K, and Lucas K, in Year 2. They were members of the winning LPW chess team who played at Worthing on 21 December and they represented the school brilliantly. I omied to mention them by name in last week's Broadsheet. Warm congratulations to our young musicians who have achieved simply remarkable results in the ABRSM examinations they took just before Christmas. All the children gained distinctions or high merits and it is exciting to see how quickly instrumental music is developing at the moment. I hope you all have a happy weekend. Dear Parents,

This week I have been away from school for a few days; absence always makes me very happy to

return to our little community in Worthing and the welcome of the children’s smiling faces is

always a joy, even on a cold grey January day!

On Monday I attended a compliance inspection training course in London and whilst I can think of

more exciting ways to spend my time, it was certainly very useful. On Tuesday and Wednesday I

attended the annual Woodard Conference in Leamington Spa and this was also very useful; we had

a range of inspirational speakers and the presentation from John Herbert, Academic Deputy at

Lancing College, was superb.

In my absence, school ran smoothly and happily. The children were busy and enjoying their

learning as usual. On Thursday we welcomed thirteen Year 6 pupils from local schools for a taster

day and they fitted in beautifully. Our current pupils worked hard to ensure that they felt welcome

in our school and they were pleased to make new friends too.

Our Reception class is now very nearly full for the next academic year and we will, for the first time,

in my time here, open a waiting list for places. It would appear that there is a positive message in

Worthing and the surrounding area which is encouraging and exciting for the future.

This afternoon our chess team consisting of Danny B, Zen R, Phillip C and Oliver S are attending the

Primary Cup Chess Competition in Angmering. Our chess is developing very quickly at the

moment and our talented children are bringing a lot of excitement into school with them. Zen R has

been selected as part of the Sussex U9 Squad and entered his first county tournament against

Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Berkshire last weekend. Sussex made it through to the semi-

finals which take place next month and Zen won all three of his games.

My sincere apologies to Unaysah K, Sebastiaan K, and Lucas K, in Year 2. They were members of

the winning LPW chess team who played at Worthing on 21 December and they represented the

school brilliantly. I omitted to mention them by name in last week's Broadsheet.

Warm congratulations to our young musicians who have achieved simply remarkable results in the

ABRSM examinations they took just before Christmas. All the children gained distinctions or high

merits and it is exciting to see how quickly instrumental music is developing at the moment.

I hope you all have a happy weekend.

Best wishes,

Culture Club

We are delighted to be able to offer two tickets to see a matinee performance of New Mutiny

Theatre Company’s production of Robin Hood at the Old Market Theatre, Hove on 17th February

at 2.30pm. If your child would like to apply for these tickets please write to Mrs Casey and the tick-

ets will be drawn on 22nd January.

New Mutiny www.newmutiny.co.uk has played to packed audiences at the Bristol Old Vic, Bath

Theatre Royal, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Old Market Theatre Brighton. Their first pro-

duction, an hour long adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, received 5 star reviews from the Times, The

List and Broadway Baby and closed the annual Children’s Shakespeare Festival in 2016; our pupils

were fortunate to be able to watch it performed at Lancing College. This new production is a retell-

ing of the classic folk tale Robin Hood. While staying faithful to the traditional ballads the show will

be infused with the energy, music and magic their audiences have come to expect. If you are not

successful in your bid for the Culture Club tickets other tickets are available at: http://

theoldmarket.com/shows/robin-hood/

Fixtures week commencing 22nd January

Thurs 25th U9/8 Netball v Sion (H) 4.00-4.45

U9/8 Football v Sion (H) 4.00-4.45

Sat 27th Girls: U10 Hockey Tournament at Brighton and Hove High School 9.00-12.00

First Red Team v Seaford College Drew 1-1

A fantastic afternoon of hockey was played by two even and competitive teams. There was nothing

between the two schools—the score at half time was 0-0. The second half followed a similar vein

until William T scored a well worked goal to give LPW the lead. The boys worked hard to keep

this lead; however, Seaford scored in the last minute of the game to level the scores. A super game

by all. Player of the match: The whole team

First Blue Team v Seaford College Lost 2-7

A disjointed first half with LPW playing most of the game a man down allowing Seaford to lead

comfortably at half time. However, a huge improvement in the second half after a slight rejig of the

team saw the boys win the second half 2-1 with some slick passing before goals being scored by

Bradley H and Henry H. A valiant effort, well done to all those who took part. Player of the match:

Mr Richards

Colts v Sion

The Lancing Prep Colts football Blue and Red teams played against Sion at home this week.

The Red team salvaged a 5-3 victory. A hard-fought performance in the first-half saw them go into

the break 3-1 up. For a long time, the game was finely poised at 1-1. LPW took the lead through a

well-worked corner. Cal N took it and Marley R expertly flicked it in past the goalkeeper with a

sublime touch. Sion equalised with a scrappy goal at the other end that the LPW defence couldn’t

do much about. The ball trickled over the line to the visitors’ delight. Shortly before half-time, LPW

got two quick-fire goals. The first through Marley R again. Moments later, Marley R turned

provider for Dom F who finished superbly into the bottom corner. In the second half, Sion couldn’t

conjure a comeback. Players of the match were Cal N for his defending and attacking performance

and Phillip C for his excellent defending.

The blue team also won. Their result was a 6-2 victory. Oscar S starred in the first-half getting his

name on the score sheet. The result at half-time was 4-1 to LPW. In the second half, Oscar S got

himself another goal to make it 5-1 before Sion got one back. Sion had plenty more opportunities to

score in the second half, but Eddie B in goal and the defenders, Harry R and Louis B held firm and

didn’t let them score again. The game was wrapped up in the final stages with another goal to

make it 6-2 for a resounding win. Player of the match was Oscar S for his brilliant attacking

performance.

Netball training match with Shoreham College

Firstly, thank you to Shoreham College for their kindness and for coaching and supporting the

development of our girls. Also to those girls who helped make the numbers up for each team. It

was a tough afternoon for our three teams; U10, U11 and U13s. The two older teams from

Shoreham were quick around the court and were great shooters. Having said this, our girls stayed

strong and during each quarter they grew in confidence. By the last quarter they were scoring

more goals. The U10 game was well matched. Great effort all round and especially well done to

those girls who were playing their first game.

Midwinter Prep Schools Gala

What a great and exciting afternoon. All our swimmers were swimming up for their age group and

did a fantastic job! Unfortunately our U11s weren't in the medals although the U13s won silver in

both their relay races. Once again well done to all our swimmers and thank you to those parents

who were able to come and support the pupils.

Ms Standing

Netball club on Thursday is cancelled. Apologies for any inconvenience.
