Introduction

This wound care formulary is your guide to information regarding management of wounds in daily practice. The Trust has a statutory obligation to provide clinical and cost-effective wound care treatments for the population covered by LCFT. By adhering to products contained within the formulary, practitioners will provide clinically and cost effective treatment to manage the vast majority of wounds. Products represent 1st choice in terms of clinical and cost effectiveness. Practitioners are encouraged to consider these products first and provide rationale for using alternatives. The formulary products have been RAG rated, as follows:

Green – Universally available to appropriately trained staff

Amber- should not be stocked routinely but are available on request

Red- highly specialist / high cost products.

When a non-formulary item is prescribed an exception form must be completed and returned (see page 16). Please also refer to the following LCFT guidelines:
