INTRODUCTIONI did an internship in The Printers (Mysore) Pvt Ltd. after completion of my II year B.E in Electronics and Communication.

My primary objective was to get exposure to the Industrial environment and its requirements of an engineer.

To understand the role of electronics in a printing company.

1ABOUT THE COMPANY The Printers (Mysore) Pvt Ltd. (TPMPL) is a leading newspaper publisher in the Indian state Karnataka. It is well known publisher of Deccan Herald and Prajavani News paper, Sudha Weekly magazine and Mayura monthly magazine.

According to the Indian Readership Survey 2013, Deccan Herald is among the top ten most widely read English language newspapers in India, with an average daily readership of 458,000 (338,000 in Bangalore city).-Sufficient?

2Role of Electronics DepartmentThe Electronics Department acts as a backbone to the functioning of other departments such as the Editorial ,Circulation, Advertisement Dept.Handling issues such as Network Accessing and Login Problems, Data Transfer issues, uploading problems, software issues, troubleshooting and other technical problems.Other tasks involved are Server maintenance, Network protection such as Firewalls and Driver installation and updating .

TPMPL LANAlocal area network(LAN) is acomputer networkthat interconnects computers within a limited area such as an office building using network media.It is useful for sharing resources such as files, documents, printers etc. In the Block diagram shown, TCL is the Internet service provider (ISP) connected via TJ1270 router to the office Cisco 3845 router.

After passing through a firewall checkpoint, the data is sent to a core switch. A switch is a networking device used to connected devices together on a computer network.An Active Passive Cluster Design switching is used. This ensures that if one server is down , resources can be transferred to another system, hence this also implies less downtime. Thus increasing the efficiency of data transfer.The two core switches are then connected to different network switches pertaining to the front office, ground floor, first floor etc.Depending on the requirements of the particular departments in those floors, different internet speeds are allocated.

TPMPL WAN NETWORKA WAN is a wide area network that connects regions via telecommunication lines.As seen in the Block diagram, The service provider TCL provides a 7 mbps Fiber connection to the Bangalore main office.The main office also has a TCL 7 mbps Radio Ferquency(RF) backup connectivity.The main office is connected to various branches such as Kumbalgodu, Hubli , Dharwad, Mangalore ,Gulbarga, Mysore, Mumbai, Chennai etc through RF spoke.

For shorter distances, fiber connection is used since its advantages such as High Bandwidth Over Long Distances, Data Security,low attenuation overcome the cost disadvantage of laying down the cable.For longer distances, since its not feasible to lay cable, Radio Frequency communication is used.Since data usage is much lesser in some regions such as Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad, a low internet speed of 128kbps is providedAn internet speed of 512kbps is provided for regions of moderate data usage such as Gulbarga, Mysore, Hubli, Davangere.-Sufficiency?9SOFTWARE AND TECHNOLOGYQUARK EXPRESS:QuarkXPressis a computer application for creating and editing complex page layouts in aWhat You See Is What You Get environment.In addition to the basic functionality of font, alignment, spacing, and color, the package also provides its users with professional typesetting options likekerning , curving text along a line, andligatures.Color control allows the full-use of printing-press standardPantone orHexachrome inks, along with a variety of other color-space options. Draft output can be printed on conventional desktop printers.Process color separation films can be produced for printing-presses. QuarkXPress also offers the ability for composite work-flows, both with PostScript and PDF output.A QuarkXPress document contains text and graphics boxes. The boxes can be reshaped, layered, and given varying levels of transparency and text alignment. Both box positioning and graphic or text positioning is allowed within a box with an accuracy of one-thousandth of an inch.Common Application related issues are:Access Issues:The user may not be able to log in due to incorrect login or password. The problem is sorted by re-entering either login or password and also checking if its entered in the correct case since it is case sensitive. If the problem persists a new password or ID is requested.Connectivity Issues:The user my not be able to connect to the network. This is sorted out by Pinging.Pinging is done by typing Ping IP_ADDRESS.

The system pings the network we have entered and based on the output, status of the network is indentified.If the message Request timed out is displayed this means there is a connecting problem.This problem may be either due to server, router or connection problem.Resetting the router may solve that problem. If there is a cable problem, then the cables have to be physically checked. If there is no problem with the network then the system usage of the network is shown. Generally a time
