The Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act, or The Campus SaVE Act (SaVE), is a 2013 amendment to the federalJeanne Clery Act.

SaVE was designed by advocates along with victims/survivors and championed by a bi-partisan coalition in Congress asa companion to Title IX that will help bolster the response to and prevention of sexual violence in higher education. PresidentObama signed the measure into law as part of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 on March 7, 2013.

SaVE seeks to address the violence women face on campus: the highest rates of stalking, the highest risk of nonfatal inti-mate partner violence, and 20-25% of female students experiencing rape or attempted rape.

• SaVE requires that incidents of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking be disclosed in annualcampus crime statistic reports.

• SaVE clarifies minimum standards for institutional disciplinary procedures covering domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

• SaVE instructs colleges and universities to provide programming for students and employees addressing the issues ofdomestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking.

• SaVE establishes collaboration between the U.S. Departments of Justice, Education, and Health and Human Services tocollect and disseminate best practices for preventing and responding to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

DEVELOPMENTAL CLASSES-CHANGESNon-Course-Based Option (NCBO)

The Non-Course-Based Option is available to a student who is repeating a first-level developmental reading or writingcourse or a first or second-level developmental math course and who earned a “D” in that course on the previous attempt.

The NCBO course will give a student credit for whatever portion of the course was successfully completed so that heor she will not have to start over at the beginning. Upon completing the remainder of the course, passing the final exami-nation, and earning a “C” or better, the student will be allowed to move on to the next level during that same semester. Ifthe student completes enough of the work in the next level, he or she will be allowed to take a free TSI Assessment Testto pass that level as well.

If the student does not reach the point where he or she can take the TSI, or if the TSI score is not sufficient to pass intothe next level, then the student will simply enroll in the next level developmental course the following semester.

Integrated Reading/Writing (IRW)Any student who places into the second levels of developmental reading and/or writing will be enrolled in the ENGL

0327. This 3 hour IRW course will fulfill both the reading and writing TSI requirements.

ONLINE COURSES 101EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Interested students must be aware, however, that the flexibility offered by the course shifts a great deal of responsibilityto the student. This lack of a rigid classroom schedule may seem very appealing because it allows the student to workaround their other commitments. However, these are not self-paced courses. There are deadlines to be met. It requiresmuch self-discipline and many students discover that they need a more traditionally-structured learning environment.
