safety remindersSecure your belongings. Lock your car - or better still, park it in the

garage whenever possible. Add supplemental lighting to your premises. Don’t become a victim unnecessarily.

There has been a recent increase in car break-ins reported in the surrounding communities. This crime is one in which persons break into a car to steal its contents instead of the entire car. Items stolen include purses, briefcases, CD changers, loose change, GPS units, packages from stores, etc. The best way to deter this type of crime is to take preventative measures. Let’s review a number of neighborhood security ideas and/or suggestions:

Lock your vehicles.Keep valuables out of sight.Keep garage doors closed at all times. (Call a neighbor if you see their door up, especially at night).Keep a security or motion sensor light on in your yard or driveway. If possible, put your vehicles in your garage. With gas prices, if your vehicle is outside, get a locking cap.Keep an eye out for suspicious persons or vehicles in the neighborhood.Program 281-342-4665 into your cell phone to easily report or call for help. Be prepared to give exact location and information to the dispatch operator. We live in a great neighborhood. Working together will safeguard

not only our property but our neighbors and ourselves as well. Meet and get to know your neighbors. Record their phone numbers. Observe with a critical eye and report all suspicious activity that seems out of the ordinary.

“Working together we will continue to preserve the safety of our children, our neighbors and ourselves as well as the security of our property in our Lakemont Community.”
