We have many girls this year. We were able to have all of them parcipate because five of our teachers commied to coach and be a part of this wonderful program. Go Girls!! Lake Street has a team parcipang in the annual “shaving of the heads” for the St. Baldrick’s Foundaon for Childhood Cancer Research. This year the event is at Crown Point High School not the CP Fire Staon. See page 4 of this week’s newsleer for more details. Next week our third graders will be IREAD tesng. The IREAD test for third graders is the test you have been hearing about that the State requires each third grader to pass in order to move on to fourth grade. The tesng dates for IREAD are March 13th through 17th. If you go to this website: hp://www.doe.in.gov/assessment/iread-3 you will be able to see some sample ques- ons. We will be tesng Monday and Tuesday of next week. Feeling very blessed and thankful because I became a grandma for the third me. This past Tuesday my newest grandson, Jackson Thomas (JT), was born on the same day as his uncle Tommy (my second son). Life has taken on new meaning now that I’m a grandma. Being a mom, wife, daughter, sister, grandma and school principal makes my life complete! Wise’s Words of the Week:

Greetings from Lake Street Elementary—home of the 4-Star Dazzling Dolphins Girls on the Run have begun…and they are letting me be a part of it! We have many girls this

year. We were able to have all of them participate because five of our teachers committed to

coach and be a part of this wonderful program. Go Girls!!

Lake Street has a team participating in the annual “shaving of the heads” for the St. Baldrick’s

Next week our third graders will be IREAD testing. The IREAD test for third graders is the test

you have been hearing about that the State requires each third grader to pass in order to move

on to fourth grade. The testing dates for IREAD are March 13th through 17th. If you go to this

website: http://www.doe.in.gov/assessment/iread-3 you will be able to see some sample ques-

tions. We will be testing Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Changes to the PTO Bylaws were proposed at the meeting on Tues-day, March 7th. Voting on these bylaw changes will take place on Tuesday, April 11th.

Article II: Purpose To promote the welfare of children and youth in the home, school, and the community, to bring into relation the home and the school, to help raise funds to provide additional benefits otherwise unavailable to students and/or staff.

Proposed change: To promote the welfare of children in the home, school, and community, to nurture positive home/school partnerships that support the emotional and physical needs of the family, and to help raise funds to provide programming and resources otherwise una-vailable to students and staff.

Article III, Section 2 This organization shall have no authority to direct the administrative activities of the school or to control its policies; how-ever, significant recommendations adopted by the general member-ship shall be made to the school administration as a method of advanc-ing the cause of the above stated objectives.

Article V: Section I-delete “st” in front of vice president.

Proposed change: Positions may be shared by more than one officer as “co-positions.”

Article VIII: Section 1: Regular meetings of the organization can be held once a month during the school year. A minimum of seven general meetings shall be held each school year.

Proposed change:

A minimum of one general meeting shall be held each quarter.

CAFETERIA NEWS:

FRUIT OF THE MONTH! Avocados Fun facts about avocados: They are a fruit,

not a vegetable! They have more potassium

than a banana! They will ripen more quickly

with an apple or banana around! They are one of a few high

protein fruits! You can swap them into baked goods recipes

for butter! You don’t have to eat them to reap their benefits

(avocados can play a key role in your healthy skin and hair

routine.) Encourage your child to try some this month!

DEPOSITS Please be sure to maintain a positive balance

on your student’s account! Deposits should be brought to the cafeteria in the morning. Cash or checks are accepted and should be in an envelope clearly marked with the student’s first AND last name. One check may be written for multiple stu-dents as long as all students are marked on the envelope with the breakdown of how money is to be distributed.

BIRTHDAYS Need a birthday treat for your student’s spe-

cial day? Ice Cream tickets can be purchased for 75¢ and your student’s class we be able to choose an ice cream treat from the cafeteria! Contact Shelly Hillegonds at least one week in advance!

Lake Street’s Got Talent 2017 If you are interested in trying out for this year’s talent show, it’s not too early to start working on your act! Try-outs will be held on Friday, May 5th @ 5:00. Information packets will be available for pick-up in the main office sometime in April. Please watch upcoming newsletters for more information!

Crown Point Jr. Bulldog Cheerleading is a non-

competitive cheerleading organization open to all girls

entering 1st- 8th grades. Our focus is on teaching the ba-

sics of cheerleading in a fun and exciting way and sup-

porting the Crown Point Jr. Bulldog Football teams by

cheering at all games.

Registration for new and returning cheerleaders will be

held at Lake Street Elementary on Friday, March 24th

from 5-7 and on Saturday, March 25th from 10-2.

YMCA DADDY DAUGHTER DANCE will be held on Friday, March 24th from 7-9pm. It will be $10.00 a couple. For more information please email slymca.org The Crown Point Junior Bulldog Football League will be holding sign-ups from noon to 5 p.m. April 8,9,22 and 23 at the Crown Point Junior Bulldog Football field, 1401 E. North St., Crown Point. The league caters to players ages 6 years old to seventh grade. There are no weight re-strictions. Kids play in their own age group. First-time sign-ups must bring copy of birth certificate.

The first practices begin July 24.
