The Scripture LessonsPhilippians 4: 5-7 (NIV)

Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious

about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with

thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God,

which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your

minds in Christ Jesus.

HERE’S THE SCOOPBLESSING BUDDIES - The Prayer Shawl ministry is adding another comfort blessing, but they need

your help. Please donate a new 10-inch Teddy Bear for our new Blessing Buddies ministry. These

bears would spend time in worship and prayer with our congregation and then be taken to bless those

who need some comfort from their church family. There will be a box in the front entrance for your

donations, or you can bring them to the church office any time during the week.

SUNDAY SCHOOL - Sunday School is available for everyone from 9:45 - 10:45 each week! Children

ages 2 - 5th grade begin in Fellowship Hall 1

Middle School meets in room 422

High School meets in room 217

Three adult classes include: "Current Events" led by Jim Risley in the parlor; "Life Application" meets

in Fellowship Hall 2 and is led by Julie Robbins, "History Of" meets downstairs in room 110 and is lead

by Randi McWilliams and Adam Todd.

FAIR TRADE COFFEE NEXT SUNDAY - The coffee cart will be open for business next week, and

chocolate bars have arrived! Stop by after either service to pick up Fair Trade coffee or chocolate. All

Fair Trade purchases support small farmers and half of all sales (now both chocolate and coffee) go

towards the Edelen family ministry of translating Bibles. See you Oct. 27 for Fair Trade items!

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS - Look for the hungry little cow in Fellowship Hall 2 during the Café

Service, and later in the lobby after the 11:00 AM service. She needs to be fed - and she only eats

money. She wants to get fat and sassy to support "Help for Pets" a local organization that provides

seniors and others who cannot afford to take care of their pets with food, and other necessary supplies

so that they can keep their beloved animals at home. But she's more than that. She's also the key to

watching our Pastor kiss a real cow at our October 27th Blessing of the Animals event. She's promised

to do it if we can raise $1,000.00 for "Help for pets". Drop your donations in this Sunday, and bring

your friends, neighbors, relatives and co-workers along with their animals to receive a blessing on

October 27. See our website for more details. You can also donate to "kiss the cow" through our

online giving service.

TRUNK N TREAT - Trunk N Treat is coming up on Sunday October 27. Please join us for this fun

evening of being present in the community! Families are invited to come collect goodies between 5:30

- 7:00 pm. We need lots of cars to pop a trunk and pass out goodies! Plan to arrive at 5:00 to set up,

kids can still go car to car even if they park and help pass out goodies. This is a community event so

invite your neighbors, friends and family! We have had about 125- 150 kids come through in the past,

so plan for about that number.

HARVEST DINNER - Our Annual Harvest Dinner will be held on Friday, November 1, from 4:30 - 7:30

in the Fellowship Hall. We need everyone's help to continue this successful fundraiser, so please invite

your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers. The menu features ham, roast turkey, dressing,

mashed potatoes and gravy, candied sweet potatoes, green beans, kale, cranberries, rolls, drinks, and

dessert. Carry-out meals are available. Adult tickets are $20, children (aged 5 to 10) are $5.

Carry-out meals are $20. It takes a lot of hands to make this work, so if you can lend yours, it would

be appreciated. Please contact Bonnie Thompson at 240-298-5389 if you would like to help.

SPIRITUAL GIFTS - Have you ever wondered about Spiritual gifts? Do you know what spiritual gifts

you possess? Perhaps, you wonder if your spiritual gifts have changed over the years, because as

Ecclesiastics 3 reminds us, everything has a season, and therefore we grow and change over time. In

Page 14: Laity Sunday 20 October 2019 · 2019-10-18 · Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as

the coming weeks we are going to ask everyone to complete a Spiritual Gifts Inventory. These will

be kept confidential and only you will see your own unique results. Remember, 1 Corinthians 12:7

(NLV) says…"The Holy Spirit works in each person in one way or another for the good of all." We look

forward to having you all participate in this venture.

used Christmas decorations for our "Recycled Christmas", and books of all kinds for our used book sale.

Please call the church office to schedule a time to deliver your items.

APPALACHIA SERVICE PROJECT (ASP) - 2020 interest? Yes, it seems like we just got back. But, we

can begin reserving space for summer 2020 trips on Sept. 16. Please reply to John Carns (text/cell -

301.848.0060 or e-mail - [email protected] ) to let him know which trip (High School or Middle

School) and how many folks might be interested. We just need an approximate head count for now.

likes to sing or play an instrument (or even if you just want to have fun with other kids and teens your
