From the PresidentThat’s right, hockey, football, and basketball seasons are well underway, but that doesn’t mean golf season is over. We’ve been blessed with temperate weather and the golf course continues to be well-conditioned. So, before you hang’em up for the winter, try to squeeze another round or two in before the elements change. The golf course will continue to be groomed until weather conditions deteriorate.

I would also like to recognize the North East High School golf team for winning the District 10 championship and congratulations to Alec Hite, Isaiah Swan, and Carter Hassenplug for advancing to the state championship as individuals. Quin Barnes and T. J. Seybolt rounded out the squad for the team competition. Kudos as well to Mercyhurst Prep sophomore, Sarah White, who was tied for the lead after day one of the state championship and finished third. The North East boys are coached by Jon Sedelmyer, Troy Hassenplug, and Dave Mazza while the Mercyhurst girls are coached by Kathy Lynch. All of these athletes are honing and perfecting their skills at Lake View under the supervision of these Lake View members. Congratulations and well done to all.

-1 tsp of cinnamon-3/4 cup of butter (melted)-1 tsp of vanilla extract-1 20 oz. can apple pie filling

PREPARATION

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degree. Spray a 9 by 13 inch pan with cooking spray and set aside

2. Melt together the caramels and 1/3 cup of the evaporated milk oven medium low heat, stirring often.

3. While the caramel is melting, mix together the cake mix and the cinnamon until fully combined. Then add the melted butter, the vanilla and the remaining 1/3 cup evaporated milk . Divide the mixture in two.

4. Spread half of the cake mixture over the bottom of the 9 by 13 pan. Bake for eight minutes.

5. Remove the pan from the oven, very carefully spread the apples over the cake mix. Tip: drop the big chunks of apple on the cake, then pour the liquid from the filling over the top.

RULES QUESTIONPlayer A’s ball lies under a tree. While taking a practice swing, the player knocks down some leaves. Is there a penalty?

ANSWER: : Possibly. The question becomes: Has the player improved his lie? Decision 13-2 states: To improve means to change for the better so that the player creates a potential advantage with respect to the position or lie of his ball, the area of his intended stance or swing, his line of play or a reasonable extension of that line beyond the hole, or the area in which he is to drop a ball. Therefore, merely changing an area protected by Rule 13-2 will not be a breach of Rule 13-2 unless it creates such a potential advantage for the player in his play. Examples of changes that are unlikely to create an advantage include:Item c: Accidentally knocks down several leaves from a tree in his area of intended swing with a practice swing, but there are still so many leaves or branches remaining that the area of intended swing has not been materially affected. Examples of changes that are likely to create such a potential advantage include:Item c: Accidentally knocks down a single leaf from a tree in the area of his intended swing with a practice swing, but, as this was one of very few leaves that might either interfere with his swing or fall and thereby distract him, the area of his intended swing has been materially affected. The answer appears to be a judgment call by the player. Has he or has he not improved the intended area of his swing? If so, there is a two-stroke penalty in stroke play and loss of hole in match play.

LOOKING FOR A GAME! Nice days in November are a great time to play. We will try to put a game together any day the weather permits. Weekdays between 12:00-1:00 and weekends around 9:00. Everyone is invited. Call the pro shop to let us know you are coming.

POSTING OFFSEASON SCORES Although posting of scores officially ends October 31 for the Erie area, rounds played at golf courses located in the south and west should still be posted. If the course you play is on the GHIN system, you should be able to post your score in their computer. You will need your GHIN number. Ghin #’s are available by printing a label at the pro shop computer or by calling us. Another option is to post on line at www.ghin.com.

NOVEMBER HOURS The pro shop will be open on days when the weather is nice enough to rent carts. The hours of operation will be weekdays, 9:00 – 2:00, weekends 8:30-3:00. We will open other hours by request. Guest fees are $50 including cart. If there is no one in the pro shop, the fee must be paid in the office. If you are concerned whether the pro shop will be open or not, call 725-9561 or Steve at 397-4280. The practice range closes October 31.

ETIQUETTE TIPConsideration for Other Players:Players should always show consideration for other players on the course and should not disturb their play by moving, talking, or making unnecessary noise. Players should ensure that any electronic device taken onto the course does not distract other players. On the teeing ground, a player should not tee his ball until it is his turn to play. Players should not stand close to or directly behind the ball, or directly behind the hole, when a player is about to play. On the Putting Green, players should not stand on another player’s line of putt or, when making a stroke, cast a shadow over his line of putt. Players should remain on or close to the putting green until all players in the group have holed out.

ELECTRIC CART OWNERS Just a reminder that it is recommended that you charge your batteries at least once a month over the winter
