WORKSHOP

Shop : Machine Shop

Fourth semester

Sub : Manufacturing process

1. One turning job on lathe containing the operations like plain turning, step turning,

Fifth semester

1. One job of gear cutting (spur gear /helical gear) by using simple indexing method (max.

four students per job).

2. One job containing surface grinding / cylindrical grinding operation. (max. four students

per job).

Sub : Advance Manufacturing Process

Shop: Welding shop

1. One job using Spot welding machine. (Min. 4 spots on 0.5-1mm thick metal strip.)

2. One simple job on TIG / MIG welding setup or visit to TIG / MIG welding shop.

3. Any one composite job from involving butt joint lap joint welding process, from the

following like Grill, door, window frame, waste paper basket, Chappel stand, Corner

flower stand chair , table rame (square pipe 25 mm) cooler frame (folding type)

Demonstration of different welding

4. tools / machines.

5. Demonstration on Arc Welding, Gas Welding, gas cutting and rebuilding of broken parts

with welding. One simple job involving butt and lap joint. For each students

Shop: Carpentary shop

1. Any one composite job from the following involving different joint, turning and planning,

surface finishing by emery paper, varnishing etc. like square stool, tea table, center table,

chaurang, table lamp bed sofa-set, book rack. Cabinet, notice board, shows cases, tables

chairs etc.

2. Demonstration of different wood working tools and machines. Demonstration of different

wood working processes, like planning, marking, chiseling, grooving, turning of wood

etc. One simple job involving any one joint like mortise and tenon, dovetail, bridle, half

lap etc for each students

Shop: Fitting Shop

1. Demonstration of different fitting tools and drilling machines and power tools.

Demonstration of different operations like chipping, filing, drilling, tapping, cutting etc.

One simple fitting job (Male/female assembly type) involving practice of chipping, filing,

drilling, tapping, cutting etc.

Shop : Foundary shop/Smithy shop

1. Moulding practice for any one pattern.

2. Demonstration of different forging tools and Power Hammer. Demonstration of different

forging processes, likes shaping, caulking fullering, setting down operations etc. One job

like hook, peg, flat chisel or any) hardware item.

Shop : sheet metal

1. Demonstration of different sheet metal tools / machines. Demonstration of different sheet

metaloperations like sheet cutting, bending, edging, end curling, lancing, soldering and

riveting. One simple job involving sheet metal operations and soldering and riveting. For

each student. One composite job from the following: Letter box, Trunk, Grain Container,

Water-heater Container, Bucket, Waste Paper Basket, Cooler Tray, Waterdraining

Channel, etc. (including soldering and riveting) [Batch size should be selected depending

on volume of work. Job allotted should comprise of 4-6 hours of actual working ions.

Student shall calculate the cost of material and labor cost required for their job from the

drawing.

Shop: Plumbling shop

1. Demonstration of different plumbing Tools Demonstration of different operations in

plumbing, observing different pipe joints and pipe accessories. Different samples of PVC

pipes and PVC pipe fittings. One job on simple pipe joint with nipple coupling for

standard pipe. Pipe threading using standard die sets. (For each student) Demonstration of

PVC pipe joint with various fittings. Exercise for students on preparing actual pipeline

layout for G.I. Pipe or PVC pipe. Preparing actual drawing and bill of material

THERMAL LAB

Fourth Semester

Sub: Thermal Engineering

1. Trace and draw the path of Flue Gases and water Steam circuit with the help of models of

‘Babcock & Wilcox’ and ‘La-Mont’ Boiler or any other similar model available in the

laboratory.

2. Draw and understand working of various types of Boiler Mountings and Accessories.

3. Prepare a report on visit to Sugar Factory/ Steam Power Plant/ Dairy industry with

specification of boiler and list of mountings and accessories along with their functions.

4. Draw the sketches of impulse and reaction turbines; describe their working and

differences through a cut section model or a working model. Focus should be on the use

for electrical power generation.

5. Draw a Neat sketch and understand working of Jet Condenser. Component must be

labeled. State function of components and material used.

6. Calculate the thermal conductivity for a given sample of solid metallic rod.

7. Classify heat exchangers and write their descriptions. Observe the various heat

exchangers available in laboratory with their specifications.

Fifth semester

Sub: Power Engineering

1. Conduct trial on single / multi cylinder petrol / diesel engine for heat balance sheet.

2. Conduct Morse Test on multi cylinder petrol engine to determine its indicated power and

mechanical efficiency.

3. Measure I.C. engine pollutants with the help of exhaust gas analyzer.

4. Conduct trial on two-stage reciprocating air compressor to determine its volumetric

efficiency and isothermal efficiency.

5. Understand construction and working of a jet engine with the help of model.

FLUID POWER LAB

List Of Practical’s Conducted at Fluid Power Lab

1. Measure water pressure by using Bourdon’s pressure gauge and U-tube Manometer. Also

measure discharge of water by using measuring tank and stop watch.

2. Calibrate Bourdon’s pressure gauge with the help of Dead weight pressure gauge.

3. Verify Bernoulli’s theorem.

4. Determine coefficient of Discharge of Venturimeter.

5. Determine coefficient of Discharge, Coefficient of Contraction and Coefficient of Velocity of

Sharp edged circular orifice.

6. Determine Darcy’s friction factor ‘f’ in pipes of three different diameters for four different

discharges.

7. Determine minor frictional losses in pipe fittings.

8. Determine overall efficiency of Pelton wheel by using Pelton wheel test rig.

9. Determine overall efficiency of Centrifugal Pump & plot its operating characteristics by using

Centrifugal pump test rig.

10. Determine overall efficiency of Reciprocating pump by using Reciprocating Pump test rig

THEORY OF MACHINE LAB

List of Practical:-

1. Sketch and describe working of quick return mechanism for a shaper. Find the ratio of time of cuttingstroke to the return stroke to understand quick return motion in shaping operation.

2. Sketch and describe the working of the following mechanisms with its application,a) Bicycle free wheel sprocket mechanismb) Geneva mechanismc) Ackerman’s steering gear mechanismd) Foot operated air pump mechanism

3. Determine velocity and acceleration of various links of the given two mechanism, byrelative velocity method for analysis of motion of links.

4. Determine velocity and acceleration in an I. C. engine’s slider crank mechanism by Kleins’sconstruction.

5. Draw the profile of a radial cam for the given follower type to obtain the desired follower motion.

6. Determine slip, length of belt, angle of contact in an open belt drive to understand its performance.

7. Draw a schematic diagram of centrifugal governor and describe its working. Draw a graph betweenradius of rotation versus speed of governor to understand its function.

MEASUREMENT AND CONTROL LAB

List of Practical:

1 Understand the methods of measurements and instrument characteristics with demonstration of any onemeasuring device.2 Displacement measurement by inductive transducer ( LVDT)

3 Measurement of negative pressure using McLeod gauge / Bourdon tube pressure gauge. Conversion ofpressure in different units.

4 Measurement of temperature by using Thermocouple.

5 Measurement of flow by using rotameter.

6 Measurement of strain by using a basic strain gauge and verify the stress induced.

7 Speed Measurement by using Stroboscope / Magnetic / Inductive Pick Up.

8 Measurement of force & weight by using a load cell.

9 Liquid Level Measurement by using Capacitive Transducer system.10 Study of control system with one suitable application (boiler) arranging industrial visit at sugar factory/ paper mill / textiles / food processing industry.

METROLOGY AND QUALITY CONTROL LAB

List of Practical:1. Measurement of various dimensions& dimensional parameters using instruments such as radius gauge,pitch screw gauge, filler gauge, vernier caliper, vernier height gauge, vernier depth gauge, dial typevernier caliper, micrometer, inside micrometer, tube micrometer.

1. To set the Adjustable snap gauge GO end and NOGO end for a given dimensions using slip gauges.

2. Inspection of given components using Dial Indicator as a mechanical comparator.

3. To check the given component using high pressure Dial type pneumatic comparator.

4. To find unknown angle of component using bevel protractor and verify the same using sine bar/sine center and slip gauges.

5. To measure the angle of component with the Angle Dekkor / Autocollimator using angle gauge.6. Measurement of screw thread elements by using screw thread micrometer, screw pitch gauge &

their verification with the help of profile projector/tool maker’s microscope.

7. Measurement of gear tooth elements by using gear tooth vernier caliper and verification of geartooth profile using profile projector.

8. To measure surface roughness using surface roughness measuring instrument. Measure surfaceroughness of turning, milling, shaping, grinding and lapping surfaces.

9. Testing of lathe machine/drill machine for parallelism, squareness, trueness by Test Dial indicator.

DESIGN AND DRAWING LAB

3. Trial on Vapor Compression cycle test rig to find COP.4. Trial on Ice Plant test rig.5. Calculation of Relative Humidity in the area with help of Sling Psychomotor and

Psychometric Chart6. Trial on Air conditioning test rig.7. Dismantling and assembling of hermetically sealed compressor

8. Dismantling and assembling of Reciprocating refrigeration compressor.
