LABOR LEADERSHIPGIVING PROGRAM

1

A MESSAGE TO ORGANIZED LABORDEAR UNION BROTHERS AND SISTERS:Thank you for supporting United Way of the Capital Region. Through your contribution you are joining forces with other donors, volunteers and organizations to change lives right here in our region.

Three years ago, United Way of the Capital Region embarked on a new strategic vision to create a stronger, more vibrant community. They studied the facts, surveyed the public and convened expert task forces to help create potential solutions and strategies around our region’s most pressing issues in health, education and income.

In the summer of 2017, United Way will work collectively with community partners to launch pilot projects focusing on:

• Access to health care• School readiness• Workforce development

Though these projects will start on a small scale, they can grow to serve people in rural, suburban and urban parts of our community. At the same time, United Way will continue supporting basic needs services.

For decades, unions have been the backbone of the middle-class in our country. Local volunteerism has been a hallmark and point of pride with union members. However in recent years we have seen a decrease in families earning middle-class wages, and union membership and volunteerism.

As United Way roles out new pilot projects which directly speak to the needs of working families, union members have an opportunity to raise their hands and step forward to be part of this work. Now is the time for us to join together in the fight for better communities. Give. Advocate. Volunteer. Do what you can to really make a difference.

Let’s remind our fellow union members and non-union citizens alike that our community is stronger when we are organized and working together. We are united for change. We LIVE UNITED!
