Lab Safety
© Mike Offutt 2003
I’ve gotta tell you a story.
It’s true.
And it could happen to you.
He was working in the lab one fateful
day.
His distillation looked OK.
But it blew up with an awful sound.
It knocked him on the ground.
Broken glass was everywhere.
Smoke was coming from his hair.
When the medics came,
he was nearly dead.
And these were the words…
he said...
Oh where, oh where can my goggles be?
They’re so important in chemistry.
But they only work when you put ‘em
on.
Now all my hopes and dreams are
gone.
(He said)
“I was such a silly fool,
I ignored the safety rules.
I forgot what goggles are for.
I just left ‘em in the drawer.
I want to see the mountain top.
And, you know, I love to read a lot.
Now, I’ll never see again.
I forgot that … goggles are my
friend.”
Oh where, oh where can my goggles be?
They’re so important in chemistry.
But they only work when you put ‘em
on.
Now all my hopes and dreams are
gone.
The best doctors worked all night.
They saved that young man’s
sight.
But the scars he has will never
fade.
Reminders of the choice he made.
Don’t be a silly fool.
Remember all the safety rules.
Wear your goggles every
day.
And no one will ever...
hear you say…
Oh where, oh where can my goggles
be?
They’re so important in chemistry.
But they only work when you put ‘em
on.
Now all my hopes and dreams are
gone.
Oh where, oh where can my goggles be?
They’re so important in chemistry.
But they only work when you put ‘em on.
Now all my hopes and dreams are gone.
