Use data acquisition to capture different kinds of measurements over a longer period of time.

The 34972A Data Acquisition is a 3-slot mainframe with a 6½ digit DMM

8 plug-in modules: multiplexers, matrices, RF switches, multifunction

11 different input signals: temperature with thermocouples, RTDs and thermistors; DC/AC volts or current; 2- or 4- wire resistance; frequency and period

Objective: Probing two bad components with the NEW 34465A Truevolt DMM to get high resolution and accurate measurements.

Equipment:

– Demo cube

– 34465A Truevolt DMM

– DMM Probes

– Cables

LAB #3

Data Logging and Temperature Measurements 26

1. Connect the test probes to your DMM.

2. Set the 34465A to DCI measurement function.

3. Probe on the two vias coming out of the solar cell

4. Pin 3 and 7 are connected to the solar cell on the demo cube directly. In room lighting conditions, the solar cell should produce about 1.5Vdc at approximately 130nA.

LAB #3: Measuring uA range current.

Did you know?• Truevolt DMM allows you to measure

small current down to 1uA range.

Page 27: Lab 1.3: Trueform Generators & BenchVue

Page

Data Logging and Temperature Measurements 27

- Press Shift>Single(Probe Hold)

- Once the DMM sees a solid reading it will hold the reading allowing you to release the probes from the node. It’s a little thing but something that many of you might appreciate

- Notice that the Solar cell is

LAB #3

Data Logging and Temperature Measurements 28

1. Something else to help your analysis is to see changes in time with your measurements

2. Connect the “DB9 Current cable” to your DMM’s current

3. Pin 3 and 7 are connected to the solar cell on the demo cube directly.

LAB #3: Measuring uA range current.

Did you know?• Enable secondary measurements to get

nearly simultaneous measurements on two different parameters (i.e. ACV/Freq)

• Truevolt DMM allows you to switch to different displays such as Bar Meter, Trend Chart, and Histogram.

LAB #3: Multiple Measurements 1. Power up the demo cube.2. Switch 34465A to Freq function.3. Press Display button and press soft key 2nd Meas.

The default is setting for 2nd Meas is off.4. Press soft key Period. Now the 34465A is making

both frequency and period measurement simultaneously.

5. Probe on the 1k ohm resistor next to the fan switch. Turn ON and OFF the fan switch to see the differences in frequency and period at the same time.

Did you know?• Truevolt DMM allows you to switch to different display such

as Bar Meter, Trend Chart, and Histogram. Now, you are no longer limited to numeric display when using a DMM.

Lab #3: Low Current Measurement– Remove the 12V supply from the demo cube.

– Connect the banana connectors to the DMM

– Reset the DMM Shift>Reset

– Connect the Power supply adaptor cable between the power supply and the Demo cube

– Launch Keysight BenchVue software on your laptop. Double click on the 34465A icon in the BenchVuesoftware to bring up the 34465A’s GUI.

1. Remove the 12V supply from the demo cube.

2. Place the extender cable between the demo cube and the power supply cable.

3. Connect the banana cables (from extender cable) onto the DMM current terminals.

4. On the demo cube, Turn off both Heater and Fan switch.

5. Launch Keysight BenchVue software on your laptop.
