Brothers and Sisters, We have a wonderful Church to celebrate the most perfect prayer to God, which Jesus gave us to celebrate, in remembrance of His life, death and resurrec on. During the Mass (the celebra on of the Eucharist) it is our chance to actually feel the presence of Jesus and the Apostles in the symbols, ac ons and the prayers of the people and Priest. If there are dis-turbances around the Church that distract the a en on of the one praying or if you don’t pay close a en on or par cipate in the prayers or ac ons being conducted, the en re experience of the celebra on can be lost. I received a le er from a very well inten oned member of our community who wanted to express his concerns about serious disturbances during Mass. This is a quote from his le er, “… Much is assumed that the adults at Mass themselves have achieved a level of so-cializa on equal to the task of remaining quiet and a en ve for one hour a week. One hour out of 168. Imagine!! It is hardly assured. We have had to move to avoid adults talking endlessly during Mass only to find ourselves next to a grandfather playing pa y-cake with a two year old during the Eleva on. Being cute has trumped the sacred.”

Oh My God! What’s going on in the pews? Why do we go to Church? Wow, some people really need to get real about going to church and showing respect for their neighbor and the people around you. In Church there cannot be a free-for-all going on. We are in Church for prayer. Please be courteous and respec ul to those around you. Children who cannot behave in church are to be taken out side un l they can behave properly. Small children are not responsible for them-selves; it is the parents, the adults who bring them who give example and teach them how to behave respec ully around others. Without discipline children do not learn to be responsible adults. Believe me when I say, “if you can’t teach them as children, society will find a place for them in an ins tu on of their own design.” Please don’t think I am saying children are not welcome, they are most definitely welcome but parents don’t stop being parents in church and taking your child outside is not a bad thing. Bringing your child to church is very important, don’t stop, just remember it is a teaching moment like all other teaching moments with children. The old lady or man si ng next to them deserves her small moment of peaceful prayer during Mass.
