U.S. home prices jumped by the most in 6 years this December. The last time prices

jumped this much was in August 2006, when the housing bubble was still inflating.

The recent incline in home sales has been primarily due to a low supply of available

homes and a rising demand. An increase in housing prices have also been helped

by other different factors in recent months, including increased sales of both new

homes and previously-owned houses, a drop in foreclosures, and near record low

mortgage rates. Prices rose last year in 46 of 50 states.

Steady increases in prices are helping fuel the housing recovery. They're encourag-

ing some people to sell homes and enticing would-be buyers to purchase homes

before prices rise further.

Most economists expect prices to keep rising this year. Sales of previously occupied

homes reached their highest level in five years for the 2012 year and will likely

keep growing.

Homebuilders, encouraged by rising interest from customers, broke ground on the

most new homes and apartments in four years last year, which is also boosting job

creation. Construction companies have added 98,000 jobs in the past four months,

the best hiring spree since the bubble burst in 2006.

ARCADIA ESTATE TO BE 2013 SHOWCASE HOUSE OF DESIGN

The 2013 Pasadena Showcase House of Design will be held April 21-May 19, 2013. Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday 9-5:00pm | Wed, Thur, & Friday 9am-9:00pm

Established in 1903, the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to protect-

ing the welfare of all domestic and non-domestic animals. Some of the services that the Humane Society provides

include animal control, investigation of animal neglect and cruelty, adoptions, pet behavior training classes, and hu-

mane education.

The kennels and administration building for the Pasadena Humane society’s location on Raymond was originally

built in 1920’s and 1930’s. With donation support the facility was rebuilt in 1994, making it a very pleasant and

positive environment for visitors and staff. The clean and modern facilities allow the shelter animals to live stress

free so they may easily recover from the

circumstances from which they came, or

to remain adorable and adoptable.

Future goals for the humane society in-

clude zero euthanasia for population

control. Although not perfect, The Pasa-

dena Humane society has a high suc-

cess rate for their shelter animals, with

95-98% of adoptable animals finding a

home.

dena humane society and spca visit:

In low-inventory markets that are now common in many areas of the country,

buyers might be prone to jump at a listing they wouldn't even consider if there

were a lot of homes for sale.

This desperate approach to homebuying could cause you problems down the

line when you need to sell and you realize you paid too much, overlooked prop-

erty problems, or bought in the wrong location.

A listing that has been on the market for a long time could indicate a problem.

Is the listing not selling because it's priced too high and the seller is stuck un-

reasonably at a high price?

Does the property have problems that can't be remedied for a reasonable

price? Or is the deferred maintenance so widespread that buyers are turned

off, particularly if the listing is priced too high for the market and the amount of

work that's required?

In some areas, it

could be none of

the above. The rea-

son the listing hasn't

sold could have to

do with a slow mar-

ket where it takes a

long time for listings

to sell, particularly if

they are at the high

end of the market.
