La Rambla

La Rambla is a downtown Barcelona prosperous pedestrian avenue, a total length of 1.2 kilometers, connection between Catalonia Square and Columbus monument.

1.2

The tree lined central promenade of the Rambla is crowded during the day and until late in the night. Its origins as a watercourse are reflected in the paving design, which appears to ripple like water. Along the promenade's length are kiosks that sell newspapers and souvenirs, other kiosks selling flowers, street traders, performers, and pavement cafes and bars. Several notable sights are also located within the promenade, including a mosaic by Joan Mir, and the Font de Canaletes, a famous drinking fountain (Font de Canaletes) and popular meeting point.

Gell Palace (Palau Gell)

The Building is an early work of the architect Gaud

The Gell Palace in Barcelona is one of the early works of Antoni Gaud and one of the most magnificent buildings of the art nouveau. It is situated in the Carrer Nou de la Rambla, just a few steps off the Rambla. Parts of the faade of the Gell Palace resemble a Venetian palace, the half oval portals at the front are conspicuous. This allowed a direct access of the stables with a carriage. Guests could then use the stairs to access the upper floors.
