La Gazette du Boudoir n° 1 - January 2013 LEROY BROTHERS LAUNCH CONCEPT GALLERY IN SAINT-PAUL DE VENCE Yet another gallery in Saint-Paul de Vence! This time however, conceived by the Leroy Brothers in collabo- ration with the enigmatic art dealer Guy Pieters... Saint-Paul As part of their ungoing challenge to undermine existing systems, the Leroy Brothers conceived a concept gallery in collabora- tion with Guy Pieters Gallery, named “Le Boudoir de Saint-Paul”. The very ecclectic presentation of modern and contemporary artworks (Klein, Delvoye, Picasso, ... ) in a setting, which is a mash-up of a 18th century painting salon and an English gentlemen’s club, stands in great contrast to the very often impersonal, minimalistic high-end gal- leries in London or New York. Le Boudoir de Saint-Paul is indeed meant to be a more open place, a platform the Leroy Brothers are using to develop artistic projects in collaboration with other artists, curators, musicians, actors, ... Their aim is to develop the worthy and interesting artistic propositions. Le Boudoir de Saint-Paul will also serve as platform to invite people from - or related to - the art scene to come and give their point of view on different aspects of the art world. Interviews and talks will be recorded and spread afterwards. Guests will come from all cultural backgrounds, either popular or intellectual. ARTIST OF THE MONTH: CHRISTO Christo comes back at forefront of artworld with recordbreaking Mastaba Project! Abu Dhabi After 30 years of negociation and preparation, Chris- to finally received the green light to put up his 250 million dollar Mastaba in the desert of the UAE, about 100 miles from Abu Dhabi. The Mastaba, a work of art whose only purpose is to be itself, will be made of approximately 400.000 horizontally stacked oil barrels of bright colors. With its 150m height and 300m width, the Mastaba will not only become the most expensive artwork ever, but also the biggest. Jeanne-Claude would have been so proud... by Art is your psychosis and sanity, your demon and angel, reality and dream. You breathe it, eat it, fuck it, and crap it. Get ready for rehab! To be an artist, you must become art. At breakfast, you smear not butter, but art on your toast. You breathe fresh art, not air. You think of art every minute of every day. You love art more than you love your lover. Everything you see, hear, smell, taste, and touch is part of your art. News topics, social behaviour, people, disasters, parties, shopping, anything and everything you must think of in terms of art. You’re not one of those rats racing between work and home anymore. Now, there’s no difference between free time and work. Today, your work is art, your home art, your body and mind art. Dana Friis-Hansen, curator of the Murakami show at Bard College in New York in 1998, once said about Takashi Murakami that ap- parently, he doesn’t have time for romantic or family relations. He makes art and he sleeps. When setting up a show, he asks the cura- tors if he can sleep in the gallery, bringing along sleeping bags, assistants and noodles. As Murakami, your focus is on art. Don’t both- er about what others think of your odd deci- sions to get closer to your art. It will eventually help to build up the myth around your person. Slightly weird behaviour is an asset for an art- ist. People adore it. Ideation, creation and marketing are the three steps to becoming a successful artist. Blur the lines between the steps and merge them! Expe- rience them as one solution! It’s an efficient way to save energy! Remember all the jobs you need to get done? Follow the steps night and day and you’ll execute more work than you ever thought possible. Merging the steps will allow you to save time and lighten the seemingly un- bearable workload. Compress these three steps into one and you’ll start generating work ready for the art market! To be an artist, you must become art. At breakfast, you smear not butter, but art on your toast. You breathe fresh art, not air. You think of art every minute of every

day. You love art more than you love your lover. Everything you see, hear, smell, taste, and touch is part of your art.
