B Reft Irrigated land and water rights flfl in B±g Horn County flB In order that we in Montana will be able to present Tacts as to the IB amount of land we are now irrigating, protect our water rights, and keep IB Montana water in Montana, the Montana State Legislature enacted a law (Sec. flB .349*68 Montana Sesision Laws) requiring the Sta^e Engineer to investigate and I• prepare a complete record of all water right- i;i the state, In compliance with S• this law all water usars in Big Horn bounty are being requested to supply in- IH formation regarding their use of "•water, whether or not they are under a ditch , flH company, Indian Burvice projects, have land adjudicated, auch as th'ii Powers flfl Case, or have a private water right and diversion system. We are, therefore, flj• asking you to help us by ansv/ering tha questions on the enclosed form, vrtiich flB pertains to the lfind shown thereon. I

fl The adjoining states have already compiled records of their water use Hra in this basin for the protection of their water rights, t is, therefore, •K necessary that we do the same in Montana. We have completed our survey in HB Yellowstone, Carbon and Stillwater counties,, and have had 100^ cooperation from IB all of the water users in these counties, 1 am certain that we can expect the flB same support in Big Horn tiounty* In the three counties where we have completed Bfl our survey we have found that there ars 239,395.80 acres being irrigated * with flB a potential acreage under existing facilities, of 60,724.61 acred* In time to BB come these potential acres will be irrigated, and we must plan now to have water flB available for these acres when they ar« randy to ba irrigated and put into flH cultivation, We feel sure that we will find this same percentage of irritable fl• acres under existing facilities in Big Horn County.
