Storytelling is one of the most ancient human practices due to human beings’ need to communicate, to relate to each other and to transcend. The griot, the Arabic storyteller, the minstrel were important community members that built history, created ties among people, developed identity. They were present on all kinds of social groups: tribes, rural, urban and suburban communities.

In every family there is always a talkative member that gets everybody’s attention touching their hearts and making them want to be together. Unfortunately, nowadays personal interaction is being substituted by online interaction, but some virtual things and action will never be the same as real-life ones. Examples of these are a kiss, an embrace, even drinking coffee will never be possible to be done online.

Storytelling became popular to entertain and teach children. While listening to stories they are driven from fantasy into the world of dreams. Storytelling has become an art, events are carried out throughout the world on it. The storyteller doesn’t only inform, he interacts with his audience who react to the big flow of ideas and feelings he transmits.

Even though every culture has its own stories, tales, myths and legends, they’re not the same. Each story reflects a certain culture, its beliefs, its way of seeing and facing life. Each person gets engaged to a certain story because of personal reasons. But the most important: stories build reality, what is thought of, comes into existence.

Kuchisake-onna (a woman with her mouth cut) is a legend of Japanese mythology. It’s about a woman who was murdered and disfigured by her husband, becoming a yokai (evil spirit) who returned for revenge.

The legend tells that long time ago there was a beautiful but vain woman who married a sam-urai. The beautiful woman was look by many men and used to cheat on her husband. The samurai knew of the infidelity of his wife so that one day in a fit of jealousy and rage he cut her mouth from side to side as he shouted:

“Do you think you’re beautiful? Who is going to think you’re beautiful now?”

It is said that since then a woman with her face covered by a mask as the one used by surgeons, walk through the streets of Japan. When she finds a young man (women according to other versions) approaches and asks with her face covered:

“Am I beautiful?” (Atashi kirei?.)

Recall that in Japan the use of masks to prevent disease and avoid breathing the polluted air is quite common, when a guy sights her pretty eyes and soft features respond YES. At that time the woman removes the mask to reveal the horrible cut extending from ear to ear with a chilling smile. And she asks again:

“What now?” (Kore Demo?).

Anyone who says NO, scares, screams or shows fear on her face is attacked by the spirit with giant scissors off with their heads.

If the victim answers YES again, the spirit would just cut the victim’s mouth from one place to another to make him/her (depending the version) suffer the same fate.

In another version, if your answer is YES on both occasions the woman will follow you to the door of your house and will kill you there because “Kirei” in Japanese is beau-tiful or cute and “Kire” being cut.

There is another version that if you answer “Yes” when she removes the mask, she will give you a brilliant and valuable ruby cov-ered in blood and you can go.

La mystérieuse dispa-rition du village esqui-mau d’Angikuni est une légende qui traite de la disparition d’un village appelé Angikuni situé au Canada. Certains disent que cette légende, décou-verte en Novembre 1930 par un homme s’appelant Joe Labelle, est réelle mais la Police du Canada dit le contraire car elle n’a vraiment pas une bonne explication pour justifier la disparition des habit-ants de ce village.

Un jour, Joe Labelle est arrivé dans ce village esquimau. Il y avait un silence total. Il n’y avait personne dans les rues ou dans les cantines. Il a commencé à chercher quelqu’un mais il n’a trouvé personne. Finalement, il a découvert que le cimetière était profané. Les tombes étaient totalement vides. C’est pour cette raison qu’il a décidé d’appeler la police. Au début, la police a fait beau-coup d’investigations mais, à cause du mauvais temps, ils ont dû suspendre les recherches. Les villageois n’ont jamais été retrouvés! La police n’a trouvé personne. Ils n’ont aucune explication pour justifier la disparition de plus de 2000 personnes.

Il y a certaines personnes qui croient en cette légende. Elles pensent que la raison de la négation de l’existence de cette ville est due au fait que la police n’a, actuelle-

ment, trouvé aucune explication pour éclaircir ce phénomène. Je crois qu’il s’agit seulement d’une légende urbaine comme toutes les autres légendes du monde.

Filemon and Baucis were a poor couple who lived in the zone of Frigia. Zeus had observed that in those territories there were a lot of fami-lies who lived in very poor conditions, and he noticed that those people were not nice to the visitors who passed by.

Angry for the weird and strange cordiality of these people, he decided to investigate a lit-tle bit. He wore a custom, and with his friend Hermes wearing horrible clothes so they would give the poorest aspect possible and, like that, they went visiting every and each one of the houses getting always bad treatment, except in one of the poorest houses which belonged to Filemon and Baucis.

Filemon and Baucis were so nice and kind to those ramblers who knocked on their door, they gave them water to wash themselves, and they also offered them the most elegant ban-quet like wine, honey, cheese, eggs and other foods.

Meanwhile the dinner was going on, the mar-ried ones watched with admiration how the dishes that they served never ended, even after pouring wine again and again in the cups of their visitors. Then the couple resumed that their visitors, were in fact immortal Gods. After dinner, Zeus and Hermes showed them-selves with their authentic aspect and took the couple to the top of a mountain and, from there, they could see all the region.

From up there, they could see how his poor house was transformed into a big palace that would be used as a temple for the gods.

Plus in thankfulness, Zeus told Filemon and his wife that he would concede anything they wanted, and they asked to become the priests of the temple and die at the same time.

After some time, Zeus sent a heavy rain to all the region, and everyone died, except the won-

derful couple, they lived during such a lot of time and when they were very old, the time to die came to them, Zeus, making true their wish, transformed them into trees, Filemon became an Oak and Bausis became a Tile.

Since then, the lovers remain together, for-ever with their branches intertwined.

I chose this story because is very different than others and when I read I like it. It´s pretty creepy to thing that all the kings in the world are descendants of her.

And the other is that everybody looks the Star-bucks coffee logo but we didn’t know it the name of that woman, she is Melusine.

Once upon a time there was a very beautiful fairy called Melusine, she was the daughter of The Fairy Pressyne and his father a human, the king of Albany. She became the fairy queen of a forest in France; she had to take care of it.

One day she was guarding the sacred fountain and saw a young man called Raymond of Poi-tiers, both stayed all the night together talking. Raymond was in love of her, so he proposed marriage to her, at first she didn’t want to get marriage because Raymond didn’t know what she was, but she was so in love of him so she accepted with one condition to him. Melusine requested that Raymond promise that he would never see her on a Saturday. Raymond didn’t know why she asks that to him but he was very in love of her so she accepted her condition and gets married.

She and Raymond lived in the Lusigan castle, castle of her and had ten children, but each child was flawed. The oldest with one red eye and blue eye, the next had an ear larger than the other, another had a lion’s foot growing from his cheek, and another had only one eye. The sixth son was known as Geoffrey-with-the-great tooth, as he had a very large tooth. In spite of the deformities, the children were strong, talented and loved throughout the land

One day, Raymond’s brother visited him and made Raymond very suspicious about the Sat-urday activities of his wife. So the next Satur-day, Raymond spied his wife through a crack

in the door. He was horrified to see that she had the body and tail of a serpent from her waist down.

He didn’t said nothing until the day that their son, Geoffrey-with-the-great tooth, attacked a monastery and killed one hun-dred monks, including one of his brothers. Raymond accused Melusine of contami-nating his line with her serpent nature, this revealing that he had broken his promise to her.

As a result, Melusine turned into a fifteen-foot serpent circled the castles three times and then flew away. She would return at night to visit her children, and then vanish. Raymond was never happy again, he felt very sad because before knowing the truth he was in love of her, but Melusine never forgive what Raymond did.

It was said that the noble line which origi-nated with Melusine will reign until the end of the world. Now days many important kings of the history are descendants of her included the King of Cyprus, the King of Armenia, the King of Bohemia, the Duke of Luxembourg, and the Lord of Lusigan. The people said that if you see like a kind of a serpent near a castle is Melusine vis-ited her sons.

The message of this folk story Is that what-ever happens you can´t break a promise to a person you said you love.

The cultural message is that maybe the kings of the world are kind of different or they are keeping secrets to the human race.

Once upon a time there was a poor peasant who did not have anything to feed his family. His little children would die if he didn’t do something really soon. This man remembered that in his village the people used to make a contest and the winner is rewarded with money and food.

The contest consisted in defeating the master of martial arts. Although the peasant had never taken a weapon and the master had never been defeated, the peasant took all the courage and went to challenge the master.

So the peasant challenged the most famous master of swords in the village in front a huge number of persons.

The peasant didn’t show fear no matter the reputation of his enemy. He stayed serious and firm. The master was troubled at the determination of the peasant.

“Who is this man?” he thought. “Never any villain would have had the courage to challenge me as he did. Could this be a trap of my enemies?”

The peasant, desperate by hunger, went forward towards his rival and attacked him fiercely.

The swords master beginning to doubt and to feel fear for the first time in his life, stepped back and feeling he was going to be defeated put his sword down and said, “You are the win-ner. For the first time in my life I have been defeated.” “Among all the schools, my school is the most famous and it is known with the name of <The one gesture that is ten thousand blows>, so can I respectfully ask the name of your school?”

“The school of hunger” said the peasant.

La légende raconte qu’un pêcheur a vu, au bord du Lac Grisy, une lumière étrange qui a attiré son atten-tion. Il s’est approché de la lumière et il a trouvé un gros dia-mant. Il était tellement beau et lumineux que le pêcheur a pensé que c’était une hal-lucination. Soudain, un bruit le ramena à la réalité et il observa une chose étrange à côté du diamant. En essayant de savoir de quoi il s’agissait, le pêcheur a obtenu le choc de sa vie, il y aperçût une bête terrifiante. L’homme, terrifié, courût le plus vite possible pour atteindre le village.

Le pêcheur raconta son histoire aux vil-lageois, en leur disant qu’il n’avait jamais vu un monstre plus horrible et étrange que celui qu’il venait de voir: un serpent avec des ailes! Il était si terrifiant qu’il avait même oublié le diamant qu’il avait trouvé avant de s’enfuir. Dans la foule, une vieille femme s’est approché et lui a dit que cette bête était connue comme la «wivre» et qu’elle était le gardien du diamant. La bête le plaçait toujours sur son front et l’enlevait seulement pour se baigner dans les eaux du Grisy.

Singapore is a really small country, though, it’s a place full of different cultures, languages and people from all the world. Maybe that’s the reason why it’s culture is so alike and differ-ent at thesame time to many in other parts of the planet.

The most important icon of Singapore is the Merlion. A creature half lion, half fish is the best known symbol of this small island, thus the country is named like that “lion city”.

The Merlion is a sign of respect and protection from the world to the inhabitants. The legend has been told for thousands of years, hard to know when or why it started.

A big rock statue was built representing the great creature that takes care of Singapore and people can enjoy it.

The story of the Merlion is very popular in Asia, so maybe this side of the world should know a Little about it.

> There are lots of versions of this story but the most popular might be this one. > Once upon a time in an island a prince named Sang Nila Utama lived a normal life as any prince did. One day he was hunting in company of some of his soldiers. He stood up at the top of a hill and

saw a really beautiful island with white sand and light blue water on the coast. The orig-inal name of the island was Tumasik. He thought that it would be a good idea to go on a voyage and discover what was there. > > All the men got on a boat. While they were sailing something terrible happened. A big storm arrived and shook the boat. The prince knew exactly what he needed to do, throw his crown to the sea, so he did it and in that moment they saw an enormous beast coming out of the water. It had a black lion head and a long green fish tail like a mermaid. They were not sure what kind of animal it was, but just then the storm finished and the sun rose again, and everything was peaceful again. > > When they arrived in the island they saw that it was a perfect place to live. If a great beast could survive in that area, obviously humans could have enough

resources for them. In honor to the big ani-mal that they saw in the water they renamed the island and became Singhhapura, in Chinese “lion city”. They settled there. > > Since then, the merlion keeps bad people from its island taking care of the inhabitants. The mer-lion is supposed to see those who have bad intentions using his eyes like flames and burn them down to ashes. > > Another version of the story is told. It says that when the prince threw his crown to the sea, the storm automatically ended. The prince’s men were really surprised by that fact. > > They arrived to the island and heard to a big roar. It was so loud, they could hear it all around the land. They looked for the one who emitted it and just then, they saw a big lion. > > Everybody thought the lion was going to eat them all, so the prince took out a knife to kill it. But the lion just kept staring at them showing respect and expecting everyone else to show it the same way. They let the lion live. > > Ever since that moment the lion was a sign of respect. They renamed the island in its honor like on the other version of the story. > > The only probable truth is that accord-ing to both stories, the statue of the merlion that stands in front of the city of Singa-pore is guarding the island of all the peo-ple who have bad intentions. In other way it is a sign of respect to the inhabitants. >

> This story, typical from Singapore is told from generation to generation and it is reminded by the big statue of the merlion, also it is one of the most representative icons of this small country.

I didn’t choose a legend or a myth because I think they relate geographical aspects or the origins of the things. I decided to tell a childish story in part because of the author Hans Chris-tian Andersen because he is the most important Danish writer and probably the most important of his time. I also chose this story because I believe it represents on a very accurate way how people used to live in times of Hans Christian Andersen. It talks about the hypoc-risy of people as well and what are they able to do to keep their social status. And opposite than other stories this is directed to every ages rather than normal stories that are normally made to young readers.

Once upon a time there lived a vain Emperor whose only worry in life was to dress in ele-gant clothes. He changed clothes almost every hour and loved to show them off to his people.

Word of the Emperor’s refined habits spread over his kingdom and beyond. Two scoundrels who had heard of the Emperor’s vanity decided to take advantage of it. They introduced themselves at the gates of the pal-ace with a scheme in mind.

“We are two very good tailors and after many years of research we have invented an extraordinary method to weave a cloth so light and fine that it looks invisible. As a matter of fact it is invisible to anyone who is too stupid and incompetent to appreciate its quality.”

The chief of the guards heard the scoun-drel’s strange story and sent for the court chamberlain. The chamberlain notified the prime minister, who ran to the Emperor and disclosed the incredible news. The Emperor’s curiosity got the better of him and he decided to see the two scoundrels.

THE EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES”

“Besides being invisible, your High-ness, this cloth will be woven in colors and patterns created especially for you.” The emperor gave the two men a bag of gold coins in exchange for their promise to begin working on the fabric immediately.

“Just tell us what you need to get started and we’ll give it to you.” The two scoun-drels asked for a loom, silk, gold thread and then pretended to begin working. The Emperor thought he had spent his money quite well: in addition to getting a new extraordinary suit, he would discover which of his subjects were ignorant and incompe-tent. A few days later, he called the old and wise prime minister, who was considered by everyone as a man with common sense.

“Go and see how the work is proceed-ing,” the Emperor told him, “and come back to let me know.”

The prime minister was welcomed by the two scoundrels.

“We’re almost finished, but we need a lot more gold thread. Here, Excellency! Admire the colors, feel the softness!” The old man bent over the loom and tried to see the fabric that was not there. He felt cold sweat on his forehead.

“I can’t see anything,” he thought. “If I see nothing, that means I’m stupid! Or, worse, incompetent!” If the prime minis-ter admitted that he didn’t see anything, he would be discharged from his office.

“What a marvelous fabric, he said then. “I’ll certainly tell the Emperor.” The two scoundrels rubbed their hands gleefully.

They had almost made it. More thread was requested to finish the work.

Finally, the Emperor received the announcement that the two tailors had come to take all the measurements needed to sew his new suit.

“Come in,” the Emperor ordered. Even as they bowed, the two scoundrels pretended to be holding large roll of fabric.

“Here it is your Highness, the result of our labour,” the scoundrels said. “We have worked night and day but, at last, the most beautiful fabric in the world is ready for you. Look at the colors and feel how fine it is.” Of course the Emperor did not see any colors and could not feel any cloth between his fingers. He panicked and felt like fainting. But luck-ily the throne was right behind him and he sat down. But when he realized that no one could know that he did not see the fabric, he felt bet-ter. Nobody could find out he was stupid and incompetent. And the Emperor didn’t know that everybody else around him thought and did the very same thing.

The farce continued as the two scoundrels had foreseen it. Once they had taken the meas-urements, the two began cutting the air with scissors while sewing with their needles an invisible cloth.

“Your Highness, you’ll have to take off your clothes to try on your new ones.” The two scoundrels draped the new clothes on him and then held up a mirror. The Emperor was embarrassed but since none of his bystanders were, he felt relieved.

“Yes, this is a beautiful suit and it looks very good on me,” the Emperor said trying to

look comfortable. “You’ve done a fine job.”

“Your Majesty,” the prime minister said, “we have a request for you. The people have found out about this extraordinary fabric and they are anxious to see you in your new suit.” The Emperor was doubtful showing himself naked to the people, but then he abandoned his fears. After all, no one would know about it except the ignorant and the incompetent.

“All right,” he said. “I will grant the people this privilege.” He summoned his carriage and the ceremonial parade was formed. A group of dignitaries walked at the very front of the procession and anx-iously scrutinized the faces of the people in the street. All the people had gathered in the main square, pushing and shoving to get a better look. An applause welcomed the regal procession. Everyone wanted to know how stupid or incompetent his or her neighbor was but, as the Emperor passed, a strange murmur rose from the crowd.

Everyone said, loud enough for the others to hear: “Look at the Emperor’s new clothes. They’re beautiful!”

“What a marvellous train!”

“And the colors! The colors of that beau-tiful fabric! I have never seen anything like it in my life!” They all tried to conceal their disappointment at not being able to see the clothes, and since nobody was willing to admit his own stupidity and incompetence, they all behaved as the two scoundrels had predicted.

A child, however, who had no important job and could only see things as his eyes showed them to him, went up to the carriage.

“The Emperor is naked,” he said.

“Fool!” his father reprimanded, running after him. “Don’t talk nonsense!” He grabbed his child and took him away. But the boy’s remark, which had been heard by the bystand-ers, was repeated over and over again until eve-ryone cried:

“The boy is right! The Emperor is naked! It’s true!”

The Emperor realized that the people were right but could not admit to that. He though it better to continue the procession under the illu-sion that anyone who couldn’t see his clothes was either stupid or incompetent. And he stood stiffly on his carriage, while behind him a page held his imaginary mantle.

Well I chose that Legend cause I think that its very important to know about stories from other Countries because that way we can know about the culture of other places, and this one was one of the most important his-tories from Ireland like the one from Mexico named La Llorona, I also thought that this ley-end was very interesting because it explains us that now a days we have to use intelligence instead of using force cause of the problems we are facing actually are themes related to violence. This cultural message is very impor-tant because it refers to peace and friendship, so that makes that the people who read this legend or this history will make concience about the actions they are taking now a days, so that will be a positive aspect for us.

Long ago on Ireland, a giant named “Finn” MacCool roamed the north coast, where he could see Scotland through the narrow sea of Moyle . There was also a Scottish giant ,

“Benandonner”, who was Finn ‘s greatest rival.

One day Finn challenged Benna´s strength and reputation, so Finn decided to invite Benandonner to Ireland to start a decisive battle.

There was no boat big enough that could transport the giant, so Finn built a causeway of huge stones across the water so that the Scottish giant could travel on dry ground to Ireland, so he wouldnt have excuses to avoid confrontation.

When Finn noticed that “Benan” was approaching, he realized that his opponent was bigger than previously thought, so he returned to his home near the hills and lhe asked his wife for advice or help.

A STORy OF TWO GIANTS

Oonagh his wife, was a practical woman.. Acting like an smart woman she “disguised” Finn like a baby, with her bib and her night-gown. She also put him in a huge and “crib”, and she told him to stay still and pretend to be asleep..

Seeing the huge baby that was in the crib, Bennan got on panic..

He said that if that was Finn´s son, he would imagine how Finn would be so he returned to Scotland , destroying the road behind him, terrified by the idea that the awful Finn might follow him home.

Those who are skeptical will see the open sea, with Scotland bottom , and a lot of bro-ken columns of the Causeway , showing the rush that took the giant to smash it .

So this time, the banter or the intelligence was better than using force.

Once upon a time there were two good friends, Mary and Frank. Their parents were also friends so they spent a lot of time together since they were kids, they grew up together, they loved each other, they had been falling in love from the very first minute of their lives.

One day, Frank heard their parents discussing about something really bad for him, they will move to another country. Mary and Frank were very sad. But he wouldn’t leave it like that... Days before he left, he went with Mary and proposed her to marry him, to leave everything and go with him. He was 17, she was only 13 years old. Her parents forced her to refuse the proposal without saying any reason to him. He left confused and devastated, he though she loved him too.

Months later the country were Frank and his family had moved, had political problems with another country and it started a war between them.

Frank didn’t have to enroll, but he was so sad that he didn’t care about anything so he offered himself and went on to war.

After that, he went to say goodbye to his love, maybe forever.

She cried and cried, she never though there could be a worst goodbye than the one they have had before. She took off her collar and gave it to him.

He left to war. The collar and a bible were their reason for living.

A TRUE LOvE STORy

After years of war and very difficult times for him, he survived with only few wounds in his body, in one shoulder and one foot. But the fact that he was alive was simply enough for him to fight for the love of his life.

Everyday, during 2 years, Frank wrote her letters. In each one, he wrote a clue about a very special gift he bought for her. They where not just any letter, each one was about two or three full sheets long. 730 let-ters. And in the last letter he also sent her present. He bought her a star, the one that is closest to the moon, that one is called Mary.

Mary kept every letter and since that last one, every night she watched that star. But she never wrote him back, she was engaged with someone else.

He stopped writing, but in his heart he never gave up, he knew she was for him.

It was 20 years after when someday, some-how, a mutual old friend had invited them to a party. And finally 20 years later they reunited. Mary never got married. And only with their eyes they realized that there was only one real love in the life and since that night, every night they watch together the star.

They still have the collar she gave to him before going to war, that was the Vietnam war.

They still keep the 730 letters he wrote for her.

And they still have the ticket he bought for the star, and I can show all of this to you because they are my grandparents, this story is a true love story.

La cultura in tutti i paesi è importante soprattutto in quelli dove loro rispettano molto alcune tradizioni e anche ci sono molto diverse a quelle che noi abbiamo in Messico. Per potere vendere alcuni pro-dotti, noi dobbiamo essere sicuri di come imballare dei prodotti e della propaganda perché noi possiamo fare qualcosa che va contra la cultura degli altri paesi.

Per potere vend-ere qualcosa ad un altro paese è nec-essario conoscere la cultura perche può darsi che una cosa che è normale per noi è un insulto in altri paesi. A causa della mescol-anza di culture nel mondo è più difficile fare uno standard di personalita, ma sì possiamo studiare la nicchia di mercato per conoscere quella cultura che predomina. Nei paesi in cui sono molto influenzate per l’esterno, come Messico, molte tradizioni sono state influenzate dalle tradizioni americane, ma non significa che questo succede in tutti i paesi. Per esempio in alcuni paesi la qualità è molto importante, ma in altri il prezzo è più importante che la qualità, ecc. Non pos-siamo andare in Italia o andare in Francia a vendere capi di abbigliamento a buon prezzo ma di cattiva qual-ità, perchè Italia ha molte buone marche di abbigliamento.

La France et sa population est si bien var-iée et diverse à la largeur même de son territoire. Il y a aussi diverses opinions à propos de la personnalité des français, mais on dit en général qu’ils sont des per-sonnes aussi raffinées que sophistiquées, et qu’ils n’ont pas jamais l’air sympatiques.

St Patrick´s Day is a cultural and religious Irish holiday cele-brated on 17 March. There are a lot of interesting facts, that I´m sure, you´d like to know.

The legend says than one day Maewyn was born into an aris-tocratic Christian family, but that didn´t matter because he wasn´t interested in Chrisian-ity. Then when Maevyn was a teenager, he was kidnapped and sold in Ireland, there he was sent to tend sheep as a slave in the chilly, but the most import-ant thing is that, he developed a deep faith in God. After 7 years, while he was asleep Maewyn had a vision of how to escape from Ireland; for this reason he went to the coast and got on a ship to go back to his family.

Maewynd decided to go back to Ireland but before that he went to a monastery in France to study priesthood, in this moment he changed his name to Patrick because he wanted to help the Irish people, and Patrick means “father of his people”. Later Patrick went to Ireland and tried to convert the Irish to Christianity, his humility, engaging personality and knowledge of the social structure, helped his mission succeed, that was amazing because he stayed in Ireland for more than thirty years.

One important thing is that during his evan-gelising journey back to Ireland from his par-ent’s home, he is understood to have carried with him an ash wood walking stick or staff. He thrust this stick into the ground wherever he was evangelising and the place now known as Aspatria (ash of Patrick) the message of the dogma took so long to get through to the peo-

ple there that the stick had taken root by the time he was ready to move on. That was so strange but the people say that really hap-pened. People say that, St. Patrick fasted and prayed for 40 days at the summit of Croagh Patrick in County Mayo. During this time, as blackbirds assaulted him, St. Patrick con-tinued to pray and rang a bell as a procla-mation of his faith. In answer to his prayers, an angel appeared to tell him that the Irish people would retain their Christian faith for all time.

Furthermore, another important fact is that there were a lot of snakes in the top of a mountain, but that wasn´t a problem because St. Patrick drove all the snakes in Ireland to the sea and these animals never went back.

But some people say that this wonderful his-tory is only a legend and serves as a meta-phor for St. Patrick’s good work because there weren´t snakes in Ireland, probably there was a common pagan symbol this tale symbolizes St. Patrick’s driving paganism out of Ireland and on the other hand they say that a sham-rock was the best, lucky and so powerful tool he used to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity since it is a three- leafed plant and Patrick showed it to illustrate the Chris-tian teaching of three persons in one God. The shamrock had been seen as sacred in the pre-Christian days in Ireland. Due to its green color and overall shape, many viewed it as representing rebirth and eternal life. Finally Patrick died on March 17 between 461 A.D. and 490 A.D. the amazing thing is that Ireland was almost entirely Chistian, and for this reason Patrick is Ireland´s patron saint. Now every single year people celebrate him with parades, good humour, and per-haps a pint of beer.

In conclusion I want to say that St. Patrick’s Day is not only part of the Irish history, because it also involve too a beautiful legend.

L’articolo è stato scritto collettivamente, a più mani, dagli studenti del corso di italiano V i quali hanno preso in consider-azione, come tipico esempio di intercultura, l’apporto di un prodotto messicano, il cacao, che ha arricchito la tradizione culi-naria europea per poi tornare alla sua terra d’origine trasformato in cioccolato.

Un po’ di storia

Nel Messico precolombiano il cacao aveva un valore simbolico molto importante, era un prodotto riservato all’imperatore e alla sua famiglia. Il Xocoatl era utilizzato come medicina, per esempio per alleviare il dolore addominale e come antidoto contro l’avvelenamento.

C’erano due maniere di consumarlo: solido e come bevanda.

La bevanda, chiamata xocoatl, non era come la conosciamo, conteneva molte spe-zie, peperoncino, miele, vaniglia e mais. Per spiegare l’origine del cacao esiste una leg-genda: un guerriero andò in guerra lasciando la sua giovane ragazza a custodire i suoi beni. La donna venne assalita, ma preferì essere uccisa che rivelare il nascondiglio segreto. Dal suo sangue è nata la pianta del cacao i cui frutti sono amari come i dolori per amore, forti come la virtù e rossi come il sangue.

Il cacao era un bene altamente considerato nel Messico Preispanico, il valore di mercato del cacao era talmente alto che una dozzina di semi erano utilizzati come moneta e vale-vano una fortuna, per esempio si poteva comprare uno schiavo.

Agli spagnoli piacque tanto il xocoatl, chiamarono la bevanda cioccolato e per tre quarti di secolo mantennero segreta la sua preparazione.

I monaci spagnoli aggiunsero la vaniglia e lo zucchero per farlo meno amaro e ren-derlo solido mentre comunemente veniva servito come bevanda.

Solo quando dei pirati inglesi catturarono una nave spagnola che portava tesori, tra i quali il cacao, il segreto del cioccolato diventò pubblico.

Tipi di cioccolato

Ci sono molti tipi di cioccolato come fon-dente, al latte, bianco, amaro, di copertura, gianduia, ecc. Il fondente è molto impor-tante in cucina ed anche in pasticceria per il suo contenuto di cacao, il cioccolato a latte è il prediletto dai bambini per la sua consistenza cremosa, è molto sensibile al calore ed è molto difficile da lavorare in cucina, il cioccolato bianco non è vera-mente cioccolato perché è fatto di burro di cacao ed è anche il più difficile da fon-dere, il cioccolato amaro è molto usato per piatti salati, la copertura è più utilizzata in cucina e pasticceria, ha un alto contenuto di burro di cacao e per questo è molto bril-lante, il gianduia è un’invenzione di pastic-ceri torinesi, quando il cacao è scarseggiato, i pasticceri gli hanno aggiunto nocciole dolci tipiche della regione ed hanno inven-tato la crema gianduia.

L’uovo di cioccolato

Le origini della simbologia dell´Uovo risal-gono a tempi molto antichi, precedenti alla nascita della religione cristiana. Una delle principali cose che l’uovo rappresenta è la

vita. Per alcune culture pagane l´uovo si con-siderava l’unione del cielo e della terra men-tre gli egiziani credevano che l’uovo fosse il centro di quattro elementi: terra, aria, fuoco e acqua.

I primi documenti che parlano dell´uovo risalgono al tempo degli antichi Persiani, che erano soliti scambiarsi le uova di gal-lina al principio della primavera. Seguendo un filo conduttore logico l’uovo rappresenta dapprima la vita e poi, con l´avvento del cristianesimo, diventa il simbolo della risur-rezione, appunto della rinascita dell´uomo.

L´uovo oggi è una pietanza tipica delle festi-vità pasquali. Ma l´uovo di cioccolato ha avuto la sua maggiore diffusione soprattutto a partire dal XX secolo.

La tradizione italiana prevede il consumo del-l´uovo di cioccolato dopo il pranzo di Pasqua, anche se ora la forte influenza commerciale ha anticipato i tempi di diverse settimane.

Do you know that the The Colosseum in Rome is one of the world’s most amazing buildings. Verus

He was born a free man but, in AD76,Veruswas captured on the north east frontier of the Roman Empire. Verus was brought back to Italy and forced into slavery. He worked for a year in a quarry, before seizing his chance to train as a gladiator. He rose through the ranks to become a star gladiator.

Verus was a well-known gladiator during the reigns of the Emperors Vespasian and Titus in the latter part of the 1st century. His combat with Priscus was the highlight of the opening day of the games conducted by Titus to inaugurate the Flavian Amphitheatre (later the Colosseum) in AD 80, and was recorded in a laudatory poem by Martial — the only detailed description of a gladiatorial fight that has survived to the present day. Both gladiators were declared vic-tors of the combat, and were awarded their freedom by the Emperor in a unique outcome.

El CEDI desde su apertura en el mes de enero, contó con la asistencia de tres alum-nos muy especiales, ellos a su corta edad ya están aprendiendo un tercer idioma con nosotros.

Héctor Adrián Bernal Galle-gos, tiene actualmente 12 años y estudia primero de secund-aria, cursa el quinto nivel de francés con un excelente desempeño.

Erik Flores Franco cuenta con 11 años y estudio 6º de prima-ria, actualmente cursa el ter-cer nivel de francés.

José Manuel Lemus Gómez, es alumno de 3ro de prima-ria, tiene 9 años y estudia el segundo nivel de francés.

Con la misma meta en común, estos tres chicos fueron objeto de una entrevista que muestra un poco de su personalidad, intereses, conocimientos y las razones por la que decidieron estudiar francés. Estuvieron completamente par-ticipativos en la sesión de preguntas y me llama la atención su forma de pensar en cuanto aprender un tercer idioma. Todos ellos estudian desde muy pequeños el inglés por lo que actualmente, su desempeño en francés es el motivo de esta diver-tida y amena entrevista.

¿Cuánto tiempo tienes estudiando el francés?

Adrián: 2 años

Erik: 1 año

José Manuel: desde enero del 2013.

¿Hablar francés te hace especial, por qué?

Adrián: Sí, creo que obtendré un mejor trabajo cuando sea grande.

Erik: Si, puedo ver y entender “pelis” en francés.

José Manuel: Si, ya que la mayoría de mis amigos no saben francés.

¿Conoces algún personaje, comic, o artista francés?

“Los niños también hablan francés en el CEDI”

Adrián: Si, Franck Ribéry, juega para el FC Bayern de Múnich.

Erik: Si, al DJ David Guetta; Daft Punk es un dúo de música elec-trónica formado por los músicos franceses Guy Manuel de Homem-Christo y Thomas Ban-galter y las historietas de Tintín.

José Manuel: No.

Menciona algo que carac-teriza a Francia.

Adrian: La Torre Eifel, Notre Dame.

Erik: Comidas exóticas como los caracoles.

José Manuel: El nuevo Disneyland.

¿Qué otros países hablan francés, además de Francia?

Adrian: Nigeria

Erik: Canadá, Madagascar, Guyana Francesa.

José Manuel: Canadá

¿Conoces a otros niños que hablen o estudien francés?

Adrian: Si, a mi amigo Erik (risas)

Erik: Si, mis amigos Tony, Sebastian y Stefanie, ellos son franceses.

José Manuel: Si, a Iker y a mi papá.

¿Qué le preguntarías a un niño francés de tu misma edad?

Adrian: ¿Qué les gusta hacer en su tiempo libre, cuáles son sus pasatiempos?

Erik: ¿A qué edad puedes conducir con permiso oficial?

José Manuel: ¿Cómo son las escuelas, los maestros, los horarios?

Después de la entrevista, los niños conocieron sobre algunos juegos que practican en

Francia, como por ejemplo “Escargot”, se juega parecido al “avión” que jugamos en México, pero tiene forma de caracol (de ahí su nombre) y también está seccionado y cada sección tiene un número, se pinta en el suelto y se salta sobre los números como el “avión”. También ubicaron a Francia en el planisferio e identificaron y colorearon aquellos países que hablan francés. Fue una dinámica muy entrete-nida que disfrutaron y compartieron.

Espero que a partir de aquí nuestros alumnos que ahora ya se conocen entre sí, puedan formar parte de las próximas actividades que el CEDI prepara para ellos y también, invitamos a otros niños a que se unan a nuestras clases de francés ya que siempre habrá dinámicas diverti-das de integración.
