2013 Clariden Global Executive Education

This intensive and highly hands-on executive education program is designed for senior and mid-level public sector executives to provide them with actionable insights on how to implement change in their individual government organizations. Led by Dr Steve Kelman, a Weatherhead Professor of Public Management at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, participants will be engaged in leading concepts, simulations, exercises and Harvard case studies in unleashing change in the public sector. Dr Kelman has led change efforts in the Clinton administration and in the area of government purchasing, earning the only ‘A’ grade rating from the Brookings Institution, the leading think tank in the US. Recently, he was a visiting Li Ka Shing Professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. He has consistently been recognized for his excellence in public sector thought leadership, winning awards including the John Gaus Award & Lectureship from the American Political Science Association, which honors a lifetime of achievement in public administration scholarship.

In this interactive and comprehensive executive education program Public Sector Change Management & Transformation, you will learn how to play a key role in institutionalizing change in your government organization. You will run through hands-on exercises and discussions, including Harvard case studies, in order to harness the potential in an organization for change, empower change vanguards, see the role a leader plays in change, understand nuances in the change process like big versus small change or attitude versus behavior change, manage risks associated with change and more. At the end of the course, participants will apply key learnings in an interactive discussion on how to bring about lasting and successful change management in their organization.

Program Essence:

There is a need for the public sector to institutionalize change internally first, in order to effect change in the wider society. But numerous studies show that more than 66% of change initiatives fail, or even worse, create a new set of problems. To go forward, public sector officials need to be able to overcome the resistance to change individually and organization-wide, engage the right change agents, manage complexities in cross-agency project teams, understand the nuances of how change plays out in their organization and more.
