GOAL

The reduction of drilling cost is crucial issue for geothermal operators and critical for long-term geothermal development.

In order to achieve this goal it is necessary to reduce drilling days and lowering per-foot costs

With this purpose, Baker Hughes, Inc. has developed the Kymera hybrid drilling bit

ConclusionBy combining qualities of two types of bits into one

component, Baker Haghes has created innovative product capable without reinventing the wheel (Dunnahoe 1).

The Kymera hybrid bit is capable of improving drilling rates in hard applications across the world (Kymera Hybrid Drill Bits).

There no more need to choose between ROP in durability (Terrel).

SUCCESS IN ICELANDBaker Hughes assisted geothermal

operator in Norway in exploration basalt sections (Kymera Hybrid Bit Drilled Twice as Fast …).

Two different sections were drilled in the geothermal test, 17.5-in. and 12.25-in., (Dunnahoe).

The drill team have drilled the 567.6 ft (173 m) 17.5-in. section to T D of 885.8 ft (270 m) demonstrating average ROP of 10.8 m/hr (35.4 ft/hr) that is almost three times faster than runs in offset wells (Kymera Hybrid Drill Bits).

With the Kymera hybrid bit a section of 12.25-in was drilled to TD for a total distance of 1,597.8 ft (487 m). The average ROP constituted 21.3 m/hr (Kymera Hybrid Drill Bits).
