stance/point of view I
• involving students in the development/design of criteria (e.g. for effective lessons); materials and tasks (e.g. mini-presentations; questions for texts, choosing video material, news etc.)
• using current topics and developments (TEDx, BBC, CNN Student News, etc.); authentic materials but doable tasks
• balancing interaction modes and allowing for all types of interaction including individual time and space
What seems to work…
• using exploratory classroom tasks e.g. with
images, metaphors, reflective questions
• balancing the use of technology (e.g. kahoot,
socrative, quizlet, activelylearn etc.) with
‘pen & paper’ tasks and not abandoning
‘traditional’ task types if they seem to work
• planning into the lessons undefined
outcomes/ surprise tasks / unusual elements
• changing or reversing roles/situations/tasks
• giving students choice in tasks and/or tools/
techniques/resources

• What does silence mean to you? What about silence
in the classroom?
• What invention would you create for yourself?
Describe. What about our classroom? What invention
would you create for our classroom and/or lessons?
• What is one or more thing(s) you’ve learned from a
classmate about yourself?
• ‘Our class museum’ - It’s almost the end of the
term. You’re preparing and planning an exhibition
about our class. Which experience(s) would you
include in this museum? And why?
• If our class could speak, what would it say to you?

Choose the chair that reflects your experience in this session so far?

I choose chair number 4. Because this chair looks
comfortable and big enough. It is comfy and also suitable for
working thanks to its arms. I feel comfortable in PBL days
because we can be free when we are working and i feel
comfortable about that. On the other hand we had a lot of
work to do. I imagined myself working on it. I chose chair number 7 because I feel that I learned some
skills but not all skills that I needed or at least what I thought.
I am going to learn or experience also I did not finish all
research so far. This chair has a back but there is no arms
that’s why I chose it because I am ok but not satisfied. I chose chair 5.Because chair's back is quite laid back and
relaxing, it associate me our working for PBL can be
anywhere so it is flexible. However, the chair isn't very
comfortable so it's shows we have to do more things to
develop our project and work more efficiently. Chair arms
feels when the project finish we should feel confidence.
Lastly chair colors are black and white, it reminds me PBL
grades.

I choose number 2 because I'm improving my group work
skills and I feel I'm still lacking. On the other hand also my
research skill are improving but I feel still not good at
research. Briefly, I see my deficiency about the skills and
learn new things. The chair which I choose looks like not
much comfort like some others, I'm in the same situation. I choose the 3rd chair for my PBL because it is not
comfortable enough so you can’t sit on it too much time but it
is portable you can bring it wherever you want.
I choose second chair. It is dark, old maybe it is dirty.
Although the chair is not too much small, it's seems
uncomfortable and when a people sit in there he or she will
feel anxious or worried. If I were there, I won't sit on that.
PBL wants hard working and good effort. Our group is doing
what Deniz teacher wants but honestly it's not funny. I just
find it reasonable because next year we will have Proj. 102.
I choose chair number 8. Because number 8 looks very
comfortable, it represents how i feel about PBL. I like that
chair because it is a big chair and like a small bed. Also it has
great shape of green.

Now think about this question: What kind of friend are you? Choose the chair that most appeals to you?

And the good old…
A closer look Exploratory classroom tasks
• One-off tasks through images, metaphors etc.
• Research tasks embedded into curriculum topics e.g. unit on psychology
• Using everyday classroom tasks for exploratory research e.g. ranking, prioritising, debating etc.
• Development of learner criteria for effective lessons
Learner research diaries
• One-off tasks being used systematically and throughout the semester
Learner interviews
• Learners interviewing others (peers, teachers, lecturers, etc.)
• Role reversal in interviews
Learner observations
• Learners as observers through simple but informative observation tasks
Learner surveys
• Surveys focusing on learning from learners
• Learners designing surveys – specific topics, formative feedback

If our class were a ‘door’,
which door would it be? Why?
If our class were one of the fish in this picture,
which one would it be, why? What about you as
an individual in our class? Which fish are you?
If escape was a door for you, which
door would it be and where?

I am a gold fish So I am diifferent from
others . All fish go to same way . But I
go to different way . I am very
colourful so people like me and I like
them . But people don't look to my
colourful while fishing ! I am sorry
because of this issue and people throw
garbage to our world . So my friends
die everyday . I can die a today . But I
am not want to die so I am going to
different world . I can go to the
ocean. I know ; I will miss my
friends but I must go to the ocean for
not to die. goodbye my friends :)
This is my thinking about fish:
I am a blue fish because I can be different from the other people to look like them.
I don't have to appear different because as a matter of fact, I am different. I go in
my direction. And to go in same direction with the others isn't important for me. My
direction is appropriate direction, it is important for me.
Attractive And Alone
I am not a goldfish in this picture. I am a
big blue one which is really near to the
goldfish. Goldfish is attractive, because it
goes to another side. It has got an opinion
which is different to the others, but being
difference, sometimes going to be a
dangerous. When we object people's
opinion, we are going to be alone. The
goldfish choose his own way, because he
wants to feel his self, he's not a weak. I
have got a lot of opinions which are not for
the community, but I haven't got a power to
object to the community and I haven't got a
lot of experiences, so I can't be a goldfish.
