EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE REPRESENTIVE (ECR)

Happy New Year! May 2016

bring you much happiness,

good health, and success!

January is a great time to

focus on leadership. Have

you ever considered serving

as an officer on any level?

If not, why not? Having

capable and committed

leaders is essential to a

successful organization.

Take a look around…future

leaders are all around you.

Pilot International needs

passionate leaders who are

willing to help take the

organization to the next

level.

Consider nominating a

qualified Pilot for district

officer, or better yet, for

an International office. PI

needs passionate leaders

who are willing to help take

the organization to the next

level. Are you that qualified

member or do you know a

qualified member? If so,

nominate them!

Planning is underway for the

2016 Pilot International

Convention and Leadership

Conference in Montreal

Canada. This year’s

convention promises to be

exciting and entertaining.

There will be many

opportunities for training on

all levels. It is a perfect

opportunity to make new

friends and spend time with

Pilots you have met along

the way. Check your

passport to make sure it is

current. Check the Pilot

International website for

registration information.

Pilot International Founders

Fund would like to remind

everyone to be sure to get

your club contributions

submitted by February 1st

to Pilot International HQ in

order to be recognized at

District Convention as well

as International Convention.

These contributions support

the programs and services

brought to you by Pilot

International. Lia can be

reached at [email protected]

and the forms can be

located on the PI website

www.pilotinternational.org by

clicking on the DONATE

tab.

District Governor Elect

HAPPY NEW YEAR

2016!

I HOPE ALL OF YOU HAD A

WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS.

BEFORE LONG WE WILL BE

STARTING PLANS FOR 2016 IN

OUR PERSONAL LIVES AND

PILOT AS WELL. AS PILOTS WE

ARE COMMITTED TO

COMMUNITY SERVICE AND THE

CHRISTMAS SEASON ALWAYS

BRINGS OUR MEMBERS

TOGETHER TO DO COMMUNITY

PROJECTS. IT’S ALSO A TIME

FOR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS TO

GET TOGETHER.

WE HAD A SAD WEEK BEFORE

CHRISTMAS AS WE HAD TO PUT

OUR HOUSEHOLD PET GINGER

TO SLEEP. SHE WAS 15 YEARS

OLD AND SO MUCH A PART OF

OUR FAMILY.

NOW THAT WE ARE HALF WAY

THROUGH THE PILOT YEAR,

TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR PLANS

OF WORK TO SEE IF YOUR

PROJECTIONS ARE CLOSE TO

WHERE THEY SHOULD BE OR

NEED SOME ADJUSTMENTS.

AFTER ALL, BUDGETS ARE

ESTIMATES OF WHAT YOU

EXPECT TO DO, BUT SOMETIMES

NEED ADJUSTMENTS.

IT’S NOT TOO EARLY TO START

THINKING ABOUT AND MAKING

PLANS TO ATTEND THE 2016

DISTRICT AND INTERNATIONAL

CONVENTIONS.

I WANT TO THANK ALL OF

THOSE PILOTS WHO HAVE

GRACIOUSLY ACCEPTED A

POSITION TO BE ON THE

DISTRICT TEAM NEXT YEAR. I’M

LOOKING FORWARD TO

WORKING WITH ALL OF YOU!

STAY WARM AND WELL,

- Renée Johnson

District Treasurer

Happy New Year to all Kansas-Missouri

Pilots!

Let’s ring in the New Year with a smile

on our face for good health and the

energy to get up every morning. Each year seems busier

and busier; so, we need to step back and think about

what is important to us in our daily lives and do what we

can to help others.

January is the time of year to start thinking if you would

be interested in becoming an officer in your own club or

at the District level. For those of you who have served in

either of these positions, you know it’s not very difficult;

but very rewarding! So, please take a minute to consider

helping your club or your District as an officer in the

future.

The Awards Jury will be looking for several items for

the Communications Awards. For those of you who mail

the newsletters to us; please mail two of them to the

Awards Jury! For those of you who post them on the

website; please email two of the newsletters to the

Awards Jury. Don’t forget about the Club Yearbook and

Communications awards information too. We hope to

have an entry from each club this year for a little bit of

friendly Pilot competition! If you have new members

interested in joining your club; they will need to join by

February 28, 2016 to be considered in the growth award.

Pacesetter, 250 Club and 250 Member contributions will

need to be postmarked by February 1 for recognition at

the Spring District Convention.

Please begin thinking about the Spring Convention

which will be held in Topeka KS on Saturday, April 30!

Registration information will be sent out in the next

newsletter. Governor Mindy has been working very hard

on plans for the Convention at a beautiful Capitol Plaza

Hotel. Please join us!

January brings colder temperatures and snowy days; so,

if you have to travel; please be careful! As a Pilot, we

appreciate everything you do!

Happy New Year, Kansas-Missouri

Pilots:

Welcome to 2016! As we begin a new

year, we all make promises to

ourselves to be better. Eat better; work out more, get

enough sleep, stop smoking, stop procrastinating, and

the list goes on and on.

Yes, a new year is a

great time for a new

start, learning a new

skill, or shedding a

bad habit, but more

important, anything

your do should help

you become the You

that You want to be.

As a Pilot, I know you are committed to Doing More,

Caring More, and Being More. Here are some New

Year tips for Pilots to help us be the best selves we

can be.

1. Say something kind to someone every day.

2. Do something kind for someone every day.

3. Listen, really listen, to what other people say to

you.

4. Examine your motives. Why did I say or do

“that?” Did it make a positive contribution to the

situation or the person?

5. Be bold in affirming others and holding others

accountable for bad behavior.

6. Watch how you react to negative situations. Focus

on being neutral or positive in addressing the

negatives. You will succeed in neutralizing the

negativity.

7. Identify your personal core values and live by

them.

8. Identify your gifts and put them into practice.

9. Develop goals or a vision for the rest of your

life. As long as you are breathing, you have a reason

to live.

10. Believe in yourself. There is only one you so learn

to believe in the one true you. Stay true to who you

are and your will be the best you can be.

Pilots Rock, my friends, and you are among the

best. Have a blessed and bountiful 2016.

In Pilot Service,

Melanie Horton

Happy Holidays to all the Clubs!

It’s the New Year, right?

Most of us have celebrated already. In Manhattan, we have a large, large celebration in Aggieville with bands, a crystal ball

drop (just like the Big Apple), and fireworks. Some watch the countdown around the world on TV, attend parties, or skip it all

and go to bed at 10 pm. And, some don’t celebrate their New Year on January 1, except for the western Christian calendar

mandate where we put up a new one for school and business purposes. Many other traditions exist, and with Pilot an

International Organization, we can take note of others’ celebrations.

In a way, a new year can start from any beginning. The birth of a baby is the start of a new year for the baby and for the

family. So is marriage, a new job, a big move. Even death starts a new time for survivors. In fact, every day is the beginning of

a new year in a life. These “new” years call us to look forward, not back. But we know that doesn’t happen quickly or easily.

This is all to say that every change presents opportunities to do something differently, or just do something different. Ergo,

New Years’ resolutions. What if this year we made personal resolutions with others in mind? We can resolve to truly look at

people, engage with them, and offer kindness to everyone. Let love, kindness, and patience show in your eyes and on your

face. A member of our club told the story recently about how she was approached in a busy store by a man who asked

jokingly, “Why are you smiling? Drugs?” At first, she was startled, but then realized that her countenance told an inner story

of the decision to be pleasant and always smiling. The incident concluded with the shoppers in that aisle all laughing at the

exchange between her and this man. She is blessed to have made many harried shoppers enjoy a moment of laughter.

“Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.” - Blessed Mother Teresa

Happy Holidays to all the Clubs! I know this is a busy time of year for

all of you and you’re busy with your projects! I wanted to provide you

with an update on Safe Kids Day 2016!

Since the spring of 2014, Pilot International has had a partnership with Safe Kids Worldwide. Safe Kids Day

is an awareness and fundraising initiative to prevent childhood injury. Most people are surprised to learn that preventable

injuries - things like car crashes, drownings, fires and falls are the leading cause of death to kids in the United States. Safe

Kids Worldwide and Pilot International will be working at the local and national levels to promote child injury prevention and

motivate families in communities everywhere to join in keeping kids safe. I would like to encourage all the Clubs in the KS-

MO District to consider reaching out to their local Safe Kids Coalition and see how they can be a part of Safe Kids Day 2016.

The support you provide might just be for this special day or could become a lasting partnership that your Club supports year

round. Each coalition is different and has unique needs and challenges. Including a home safety checklist in your local club

newsletter is an easy way to help Safe Kids spread the home safety message and partner with your local coalition. The

Shawnee Mission Pilot Club has a long standing partnership with Safe Kids Johnson County and this year will be supporting

the Helmet Head Bike Rodeo. This event is the Safe Kids Day signature event for Safe Kids Johnson County and it will be held

on April 24th at Olathe Medical Center. On the national level the signature event this year will be held in Los Angeles on April

24th. This year the national theme will again focus on home safety and the presenting sponsor is Nationwide Insurance. If

your projects schedule is to full for this year, then keep this idea in mind for your next Projects year!

Sunflower Pilot Club

On November 30, 2015 several members of Sunflower Pilot Club decorated the lobby of No Stone Unturned for Christmas. No Stone Unturned is a therapeutic learning center that specializes in pediatric outpatient services for children. No Stone helps children achieve their goals and reach their full potential.

Sunflower Pilot Club held their annual Christmas Party on Sunday, December 6th. Lasagna, salad, bread and wonderful deserts were enjoyed by all. We also had a white elephant gift exchange that produced some interesting gifts and some good laughs.
