Equally impressive is KRONE’sHighBand™ Termination Block -a product that far surpasses the compe-tition and far exceeds Category5 requirements. This Gigabit Ethernetproduct is also extremely versatile -it can be custom configured to meeta specific application, plus completepatching and crossconnect options allowfor easy changes or testing.

Prestolite Wire

Since its founding in 1907, Prestolitehas been a provider of high quality wireand cable products for a diverse market-place. The company differentiates itselffrom its competition by offering compre-hensive transmission solutions.TrueNet™ attests to the company’sinterest in providing far-reaching cablingsolutions. In concert with KRONE, Pres-tolite looked at the entire structuredcabling system - while in operation -and then designed and developed

cabling products that ensured not justCategory 5, 5e or 6 compliance, butuninterrupted data throughput(see above). No other cabling systemsupplier has addressed the network inthis very real, very exhaustive way.

TrueNet cable is based upon a patent-pending technology. This product design and manufacturinginnovation fine-tunes each cable pairto achieve an operating impedance of100±3 ohms. The cable is also tunedto the various system components, suchas connectors, to achieve a 100±3 ohmsimpedance throughout the cablingsystem - from NIC to server.

In addition to the TrueNet products,Prestolite provides a full range of highquality unshielded and shielded twistedpair products for both voice and datacommunications. An extensive line ofsinglemode and multimode fiber opticcables round out Prestolite’s offering.

TrueNet is the brain-child of twowiring system technology leaders,KRONE, Inc., and Prestolite WireCorporation.

These distinguished companies havecombined resources to offer astructured cabling system thatdelivers zero bit errors. And thisrevolutionary new system isfully-backed by a single-source, end-user warranty.

No other structured cabling systemsupplier in the marketplace evencomes close to this level ofperformance and throughputrealization assurance.

KRONE is an international leader in dataand voice connecting hardwaretechnology - delivering its high quality, high performance products to over 140countries around the globe.

KRONE subscribes to a strict policy ofcontinuous product development andsystem improvement. And TrueNet is aclear example of this aspect of thecompany’s conduct. To achieve optimaldata transmission throughput, all KRONEjacks have been engineered aroundwhat has been found to be the criticalelectrical parameter - impedance.

KRONE HighBand technology

Also, KRONE is the originator of silver-plated 45° IDC contact technology. Silverprovides a clear advantage overtraditional tin-plated contacts, offeringcorrosion-free connection over time.Even under hostile environmentalconditions, such as extreme heat, cold, moisture or exposure to salt, KRONEcontacts maintain accurate, reliable voiceand data throughput.

This technology provides a far moresecure and corrosion-resistant conn-ection than all other IDC terminations. The innovative contact design alsoenables KRONE connectors to far exceedCategory 5 requirements and consis-tently out-perform the competition inboth quality and reliability. An additional KRONE feature is theinsulation clamping ribs that firmly holdthe wire in place (and help maintainthe critical pair twists).

Your network is already installedand it seems to be running OK, but...

You seem to have unexplainableslowness problems...

You’re tired of dealing with unreliablepatch cords...

Is there a simple yet effective way ofboosting performance and reliability?

The Answer is “Yes”...With TrueNet Patch Cords.

Patch cords are the most overlookedcomponent in the system. Yet, our testsshow that the overall performance ofthe network can be improved simply byreplacing your existing patch cords withhigh-performance, impedance-matchedTrueNet Patch Cords.

These tests show that impedance mis-matches which occur at the transitionbetween patch cords and jacks have adramatic impact on network perfor-mance. The first figure (below, left)shows a randomly chosen horizontalcable with a randomly chosen patchcord. The frequency curve shows wildoscillations. But by just placing a TrueNetPatch Cords with the same horizontal, the impedance curve is much smoother(below right).

TrueNet Patch Cords solve a commonproblem found in many networks: arandom selection of patch cords. Inmany cases, cable was installed as a linkand users were expected to supply theirown patch cords. Or, as your networkgrew, more and more cords were added, purchased from random sources. Thefact of the matter is, these cordsprobably don’t match the cable in yourwalls and many cords do not performreliably over time, especially after beingmoved or flexed. Our research has foundthat even one marginal cord could slowdown the entire network. TrueNet PatchCords are designed for life.

TrueNet Patch Cords contain nume-rous patentpending innovations:

• a high pressure, molded boot lockseach pair in place inside the plug. This design also back-fills the air space inside of the cable jacket. Theresult is an extra-strong termination, withstanding the pulling force of more than 30 pounds.

• the extra-long strain relief is designedto prevent kinking at the plug head- a common cause of cord failure. This patent-pending design also maintains the required 1” bendingradius.

• a special strand-locking insulation prevents the conductor’s copper strands from separating when flexed. For increased flexibility, each twistedpair uses stranded copper, but repeated flexing typically degradessignal performance. Our patent-pending process coats the strands before the insulation is applied to ensure that the strands do not separate.

Effect of data re-transmission on networkthroughput – 80% degradation from only 1%re-transmission.

Today’s high speed networks can bringtremendous productivity advantages toyour organization. But getting the fullrated performance out of even100BASE-T can be a real challenge. That’s because your structured cablingsystem – the patch cables, the horizontalcable and the connectors – can seriouslydegrade your network’s performance.Just because link lights are ‘on’ –verifying that nodes are operating –doesn’t mean that the network isoperating efficiently. More than likely, you are not getting what you paid for– a network that truly approaches100Mb/s.

New Tests Reveal Key DeterminantsOf Network Performance

Ethernet is based on standards deve-loped by IEEE and TIA/EIA to ensure anominal level of network compatibilityand performance. But new testingtechnology – which measures a net-work while it’s in operation – showsthat simply adhering to these standardsis not enough to ensure networkefficiency.

Our research with active network testequipment confirms that mixing andmatching components that individuallymeet the TIA/EIA standards does notensure efficient network performance.Optimal network throughput canonly be achieved with components thatare 100±3 ohms impedance-matched.And we have the test data to prove it!

The graphics (below) demonstrate theimpedance match/mismatch pheno-menon. The mismatched channelillustration depicts what can happenwhen a 107 ohm patch cord is con-nected to a 97 ohm horizontal cable.Typically, energy is reflected at theconnection point causing signaldegradation. This, of course, leads todata errors and data re-transmissions –which can have a serious impact onyour network’s performance.

The TrueNet cabling system, depictedby the matched channel illustration, shows how matched (100±3 ohm)components allow the signal to travelwithout reflection and loss.

Data re-transmissions dramaticallyreduce the throughput of the network(see table, right). As you can see, evena 1% rate of re-transmission can slowa 100Mb/s Ethernet network to just20Mb/s.

TrueNet C5eT RJ45 Modular Solution

TrueNet C5eT IDC FT Block SolutionYou need to install a new network, what system do you choose?

Your network is running 10BASE-Ttoday, you’re about to migrate to100BASE-T…

You need to add on to your existingnetwork....

You can’t make sense out of allthese “enhanced” claims...The standards are all you need, right?

The TrueNet C5eT System is theAnswer.

TrueNet C5eT is our entry-level through-put enhanced solution. It fully meetsthe latest Category 5e revisions, andadds throughput optimizing featuresfor 100BASE-T. The standards suggestthat even Gigabit Ethernet will run overCategory 5, but they never said howwell. The throughput enhancements inTrueNet C5eT mean that GigabitEthernet will run better than the stan-dards alone, but for the most robustGigabit Ethernet system, we suggestTrueNet C6T.

The TrueNet C5eT SystemImproves Network Performance.

The proof of TrueNet C5eT performanceis in the test results. The graphs (bottom)depict the rise time of both a mismat-ched and matched (TrueNet) system. Asyou can see, the mismatched channelfalls out of spec. This can happen whenfrequency oscillations occur, like areshown on page 5. Unstable frequenciescorrupt the shape of the signal, causingthe wave to rise shallowly (see bottom). When this happens “1” or “0” couldbe misinterpreted or lost, leading to re-transmissions and reduced networkefficiency.

TrueNet goes beyond the TIA/EIA 568-A requirements and ensures that TrueNetnetworks meet IEEE standards. This is acritical distinction: the choice betweena network that merely “works,” andone that works efficiently.

There’s a TrueNet Patch Cord forYour Application

TrueNet Patch Cords can’t get you allthe benefits of a completely matchedTrueNet network, because the horizontalcabling isn’t matched - but it’s a reliablestarting point, and an upgrade that youcan perform yourself, with a minimalamount of time, effort and expense.

An extra-long strain relief andhigh-pressure molded boot

makes TrueNet Patch Cords stronger, more flexible and morereliable.
