Mr. Larry Rohrbough, Executive Director, TRUST,

University of California, Berkely visited Amrita Vishwa

Vidyapeetham, Bangalore campus, on 22nd August 2009,

to discuss the INDO-US Masters Programme in “Cyber

Security and Research in Health Care” in collaboration

with the University of California, Berkely. Br. Dhanraj, Correspondent; Dr.

Nagaraj B.N., Dean; Prof. Rakesh S.G., Associate Dean; Mr. Shekar Babu,

Chair, INDO-US Dept. and distinguished professors attended the meeting.

Dr. Bharat Jayaraman, Chair and Professor, CSE Dept.,

University at Buffalo (SUNY) visited Amrita Vishwa

Vidyapeetham, Bangalore campus on 21st August 2009

to discuss the commencement of Master’s Programme

in Embedded Systems. It is a collaborative twinning

Masters Programme between Amrita Vishwa

Vidyapeetham and University at Buffalo, which is

tailored for working professionals. Br. Dhanraj, Correspondent; Dr. Nagaraj

B.N., Dean; Prof. Rakesh S.G., Associate Dean; Mr. Shekar Babu, Chair, INDO-

US Dept. and distinguished professors attended the meeting. It was decided

to commence with the programme on 31st October’09.

SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS

ASE, Bangalore cricket team continued its winning spree after shining in the

inter-campus cricket tournament in Ettimadai. It played a competitive

friendly match against M S Ramaiah Medical College (MSRMC), Bangalore at

the HMT Watch Factory Grounds on 31st July 2009. While ASE, Bangalore

scored 218 for 4 in the allotted 30 overs, MSRMC managed to score 185 for 9

in 30 overs. The noteworthy edge that ASE, Bangalore team had over its

opponent was good batsman partnership.

Dr. Shikha Tripathi’s biographical profile has been included in the forthcoming

2010 edition of “Who's Who in the World”. This new edition will feature

biographies of more than 50,000 of the most accomplished men and women

around the globe and across all fields of endeavour.

Ms. Lakshmi Velu gave lectures on “Introduction to MATLAB” from 14th

August 2009 to 20th August 2009 in the Microprocessor Lab for the faculty

members of ECE.

Mr. Karthikeyan has got admission in Turku University, Finland to pursue

research under the EURECA Program during the period of 1st September

2009 to 14th May 2010. He is currently attending the orientation programme

at Turku University.

Ms. Sunitha R. has joined a full-time Post Graduation programme in

Biomedical Signal Processing at R.V.C.E., Bangalore.

Ms. Jayashree Oli has joined a part-time Post Graduation programme in

Embedded Systems at Amrita School of Engineering, Bangalore.

Ms. Sankari has joined a part-time Post Graduation programme in VLSI Design

at Amrita School of Engineering, Bangalore.

Ms. M. Supriya has been appointed as the Chair, Students’ Activities for the

academic year 2009-10.

The first Post Graduate Program of CSE Department, M.Tech. in Embedded

Systems, was inaugurated by Dr. G.V. Venkatesh, CTO of SASKEN

COMMUNICATIONS, on 5th August 2009.

Ms. P. Lakshmi has joined a part time Post Graduation Program in Embedded

Machine Dynamics Laboratory was inaugurated by Br. Dhanraj in the presence

of Dean Academics, Dr. Nagaraj B.N. and Associate Dean, Prof. Rakesh S.G. on

19th August 2009.

Departmental Library was set up with more than 60 books, covering a wide

spectrum of subjects in Mechanical Engineering. The books were donated by

the faculty of the Department.

A Seminar on “Solid Works CAD Centre” was conducted for the students of

Mechanical Engineering on 27th August 2009. It was to enable them to use

various modeling and analysis tools of Mechanical Engineering.

Mr. Ajay Kapur, Director of Oracle Education Initiatives, India, visited Amrita,

Bangalore on 13th July 2009. The Visit was mainly to explore the possibilities

of Amrita - Oracle Academy Collaboration. Mr. Kapur had a detailed

discussion in this connection with Prof S.G Rakesh, Associate Dean; Prof G.

Radhakrishnan, CSE Dept; Dr. Kumar Rajamani, HoD, IT Dept and Mr. Satish

Kumar.V, Manager-Training & Placements.

Dr. Shyamsundar Mandayam T., Principal Engineer, NDE Modeling & Imaging

Group, GE Global Research, Bangalore, and Dr. Prabha Chatterji, Manager,
