August 2011

Dear Friends of KORUS;

Last fall an estimated hundred thousand people from throughout the region came together in Northern Virginia for a weekend to celebrate the exciting and dynamic culture of Korean-Americans and their long and harmonious relationship with and in the United States. For almost a decade, this annual event, known as the KORUS Festival (a festive portmanteau of “Korea” and the “U.S.”) has been wowing audiences, winning over culinary explorers, and delighting onlookers with a spectacular display of what it means to live in our rich, diverse, and interconnected world. This year’s KORUS festival 2011 promises to continue this rich and exciting history and surpass all expectations.

The KORUS Festival embodies and fosters the spirit of community cooperation beyond the confines of the Korean-American community and encompasses the entire community. To foster and celebrate this community spirit, the Korean-American Association of the Washington Metropolitan Area, with the support of local communities, and the Korean Embassy, plans to broaden the tradition to encompass a showcase of food and culture from the Korean peninsula and from around the globe. Cultural exhibitors and performers from Latin America, the Philippines, China, Vietnam, and even our very own American backyard, just to name a few, are sought to perform hand in hand with the Korean performers -- both traditional and modern pop -- the audiences have enjoyed over the years. All the world’s on stage, and each of us are the players in this celebration to learn about and experiecne one another.

This year’s festival is scheduled for October 21~23 at Fairfax Corner. The organizing committee has moved this year’s festial to a larger venue to accommodate an higher turnout, wider attractions, and more meaningful cultural exchange than in the past. That’s why we need your help. Without the financial support and commitment from our friends in local municipal, business, and community organizations, this year’s event can’t happen.

Sponsorship shows the public your organization’s commitment to the community, and reminds everyone that you are part of what makes this celebration exciting and successful. Please consider generously in helping us deliver a successful 9th Annual KORUS Festival.
