This week, Kootingal Public School has had a number of new signs installed across the school. We saw the commencement of the installation of our permanent PBL signage with the poles of the COLA area covered in a vinyl wrap illustrating our core values and our logo placed on our front fence. We also had the top of our electronic sign updated to include our school’s crest and PBL logo. The Year 6 cohort of 2019 donated to the school a new sign for placement on the weatherboard building at the front of the school. It stands out as an attractive addition to the front of our school. We have more signs to be installed across the school so there’s still a lot of work to complete.

Our school staff are settling into the demands of the end of the first semester. Our reports are well underway with our timeline set for distribution to families during week 3 of Term 3. This report is a simplified version of our traditional report. In this simplified version, only English, Mathematics and a general comment will make up the written component of the report. While it is simplified, there are still some late nights ahead for classroom teachers when writing reports.

Our text messaging service has been out of order now for over a week. This is due to a cut over to new internet security for the Department. We are working hard, both with our provider and the department, to resolve this issue. While our text messaging service is out of action, we are using email to obtain explanations for student absences. Please ensure you are checking your emails daily for information from the school. Alternatively, families can still call, email or inbox on Facebook their child’s explanations for absences.

This week our PBL focus is the fourth of our five whole school expectations and it is accepting consequences.

For anyone, student or adult, it is sometimes difficult to accept the consequences of our actions. It’s always an important lesson to learn that with actions come consequences, both positive and negative, and it is when we learn from our mistakes that we show we are an effective learner.

This week has been exciting at Kootingal Public School as we’ve had the installation of some of our PBL signage. The way our new signs transform the COLA area is unbelievable. We can’t wait for them all to be finished.

Below is the scope and sequence for the teaching of PBL expectations this term.

Dear parents, guardians and carers

Re: Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes: • year of schooling • category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional • level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice,

supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to: • formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools • consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools • develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve

educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.

Kind regards

Cara Cracknell Principal
