This week, Kootingal Public School received the NAPLAN results for years 3 and 5 for our families. These results will go home today.

Today, our students in Year 5 received notification outlining the timeline for the process of the election of the 2020 School Captains. All students in Year 5 are encouraged to nominate to become a part of this process. It is important to note that this is an election for School Captains and the Vice Captains only. The election of the Student Representative Council (SRC) members occurs in 2020.

All students K-6 attended the World of Maths workshops held at school on Tuesday. Thank you to the Kootingal Public School P&C for their continued generous support in subsidising the workshops and to our parent and family helpers. Our students enjoyed the workshops engaging with the various stations and learning just how mathematics is used every day.

Also on Tuesday, myself, Mrs Chegwyn and Miss Kelly met with the panel for External Validation. This discussion with the panel was an opportunity to demonstrate the work of our students and staff. We are pleased to announce the panel validated our judgements as to how the school is going when judged against the criteria of the School Excellence Framework. As a part of this process, the school decided on three future directions. The executive, along with the staff, will formulate a plan for the future directions and communicate this is the coming term.

The alternate summer uniform for girls is coming closer. Our working party will soon meet to examine the alternatives with communication to the broader school community following this. Thank you to Mrs Dunn for sourcing samples of the alternate summer uniform.

Good luck to our students participating in the Blast Cricket days this week from years 3-6. Thank you Mrs Blinman for organising this opportunity and to our families for assisting in the transportation of our children.

Thank you to our families who were able to attend the first week of our Parent Teacher Interviews this week. As I’m currently on class, I enjoyed the opportunity to talk with families about the progress of their children and where the class is headed to next.

Please remember our interviews continue next week on Tuesday 24th September between 4 and 6pm. Interviews are o n l y m a d e u s i n g t h e w e b s i t e a d d r e s s www.schoolinterviews.com.au and the event code ns369. This will allow families to see the available appointment times for their child’s teacher.

The achievements of our students never cease to amaze. During this term, we’ve had students not only achieving their goals in their academic studies but also achieving in the areas of the creative and performing arts and sport. Arian Hope of Year 5 this week participated in NSW Arts Department ballet workshop in Sydney. Menno Wallace recently participated in the New England Instrumental Camp playing his trumpet. Luke Sydenham of Year 6 was a member of the North West Boys Softball team that competed in Tamworth last week in the PSSA carnival. Damikah Barwick-Taylor, Jordan Byrne, Ethan Walker, Emma Jarrett and Kaitlyn Watts competed in the North West Athletics carnival last Friday in their respective events. Damikah was successful in selection to the North West team to compete in Sydney next term in the senior girls 800m. Next week, Kootingal Public School will have Damikah Barwick-Taylor, Emma Jarrett and Jessie Johnson in the North West Girls Softball team competing in Sydney at the PSSA carnival. Fabulous work Kootingal Public School!

This week the focus for PBL is our expectations when using the bubblers. These expectations are underpinned by the core value Safe.

The PBL lesson this week was assisted by the students of 3/4T. The students of 3/4T wrote the script for the video that was used to demonstrate the expected behaviours of students when using the bubblers. If you’d like to view this video, please use this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgqMJjaARlY

The students of 3/4T enjoyed making this video for the school’s PBL program.
