Koksijde is!

Koksijde, with its 21.371 inhabitants, is situated at the west coats of Flanders (Belgium) and has 3 seasite

resorts: Sint Idesbald, Koksijde and Oostduinkerke (7,8km of coastline).

At the inland, there is also a picturesque polder village, Wulpen.

Koksijde (surfaces of the area 4395 ha) is with its vast nature reserves, also a paradise for those who are fond

of walking and cycling.

The main ‘economics’ is tourism.

As Koksijde is very depending on tourism, accessibility of our community is very important.

Also for the inhabitants, a good connection to public

transport is very crucial (home-work, airport,..)

Main accesses:

- By car: A18 (Highway)

- By tram: coastal tram (Knokke - Oostende – De Panne)

- Railway stations of Oostende and De Panne are good connected to the coastal tram

- By train: railway station Koksijde is laying on the territory of Veurne and the station (building) is not owned

by the NMBS

- Connected tot Koksijde with the bus (+/- 1h frequency)

- By bus: Line 68/69 (Oostende – Veurne)

- Located on the terrority of Veurne

o Public transport between the railway station and Koksijde is very important

o Good accessibility by car and possibility to park your car

o Project Neptunus by VVM De Lijn West-Vlaanderen:possibility of the extension of the coastal tram between Koksijde en

Veurne, across the railway station of Koksijde

o accessibility is bad for older and for handicapped people

o it should be a very good first impression of our municipality

o not adjusted to modern comfort and the principles of sustainability

- Railway station is located in a bend of the railway:

o The platform is not adapted to this situation

- Mobility plan: which constraints do we have to set for the extension of the coast tram (study has started)

- Heightening of platform (very urgent)

o study is busy: difficulty: how to connect with the environment and with the possibility of the coming of

the coast tram in a few years

o the accomplishment of the design (with NMBS): multimodal space: Sintropher (in the share of

Koksijde): 120.000 euro

- Build of a new railway station

o study has started

o principles of efficiënt energy, improved passenger circulation, transfer logistics, real time information,

…

o Sintropher: 431.300 euro
