The Senior SchoolThe Senior School•In 2008 we changed the structure of the Senior School to include Years 6-8.

•We introduced a Specialisation programme to offer the students a greater variety of non-core curriculum experiences to meet Year 7/8 year level requirement.

•Between 2008-2014 we have continued to adjust and modify the Senior School programme to ensure it offers a variety of relevant opportunities.

•We introduced other initiatives to improve the teaching and learning in the Senior School including new technologies.

At Kohimarama School, like all schools in New Zealand, we implement the National Curriculum.

This curriculum is divided into seven areas: •English•Mathematics •Social Sciences •Science •The Arts •Physical Education & Health, •Foreign Language •Technology

• Cross Grouping in Mathematics

• Continued group teaching of Reading and Writing

• Current focus on advancing standards in Writing

•Increased student engagement with technology e.g. blogs, websites, interactive boards, online resources, Google Docs and the trial of mobile devices in classrooms.

•Develop programmes that respond to the needs of 21st Century learners i.e. SOLO, collaborative learning

• Availability of Mathletics to all Snell students

• Continue to develop our oral language programme through prepared and impromptu speeches

and debating

•Utilise the facilities at Selwyn College for hard material Technology

•Offer a variety of GaTE programmes

•Participate in programmes and events such as Otago Problem Solving, Kids Lit Quiz, Mathex and the biennial Science Fair

• Engage in a curriculum focused Specilaisation programme

•Participate in a biennial theatre production that involves every students in the team. This is part of our Performing Arts programme.

•Intervention programmes in Literacy and Numeracy

•Availability of annual ICAS Tests

Every second year, the school undertakes a major school production which involves all students in Year 6 to 8. The school production provides a variety of opportunities for our pupils to develop and enhance their creative skills.
