Safe reliable drive technologyKaba KOAXTM is an innovative motor drive and control system, purposely designed and tested by Kaba to significantly improve

safety, operation and design life when compared with traditional solutions.


Developed by Kaba, KOAXTM is a

separated extra low voltage (S.E.L.V) DC

motor drive and control system with

microprocessor technology. The system

has revolutionised the safety and

operation of roller shutter and sectional

overhead doors.

KOAX has been designed to eliminate

the need for springs, gears, drive chains,

haul chains etc making this system safer

to install, operate and maintain.

The motor drive unit incorporates a

unique patented zero back drive high

effi ciency brake making the system

passively safe and providing complete

dynamic protection for safe vertical

movement of the door. The coupling

provides 98% effi ciency in the

transference of the incoming drive

torque whilst maintaining 0% back drive

torque. An integral locking system

ensures that back drive is eliminated in

either direction, lifting and tilting the

drive, locking it against the housing. This

system also enables smooth, jerk-free

transition between operation modes.

Tested and approved by BSI Product

Services, the KOAX motor drive unit

features variable opening, closing and

acceleration modes and operates on a

DC current using a class III separated

extra low voltage control drive ensuring

safety for operators and installers. An

intelligent DC control system logs the

operation history and constantly

monitors the door, automatically

warning the operator if a fault is

detected, reducing the risk of accident

or damage. A pre-programmed

multifunctional control panel allows easy

connection of other devices such as

KOAXTM roller shutter and sectional overhead

door drive system

traffi c lights. This system also features

three stage emergency operation for use

during power failure.

The KOAX motor drive is suitable for

internal or external roller shutter and

sectional overhead doors and can be

specifi ed for new installations or

retrofi tted to existing doors.

The single drive unit has made the KOAX

drive system extremely reliable and cost

effective. Tested to over 60 cycles per

day, KOAX total life costs are up to 75%

lower than traditional drive motors

ensuring lower running and maintenance

costs.
