What is Islam?•Islam is submission and obedience to Allah with tawheed and to free oneself from shirk and its people.

Three Levels:Islam – submission and obedience to Allah with tawheed (monotheism)

Eeman – true faith including belief in the heart, speech of the tongue and action of the limbs

Ihsan - perfection of worship

1st Level: ISLAM•The first level of Islam includes the observable actions to be performed in worship of the Creator Allah.

•These observable actions are stated in the 5 Pillars of Islam:

1. Shahada (testification)2. Salah (prayers)3. Zakaat (charity)4. Saum in Ramadan (fasting)5. Hajj (pilgrimage)

2nd Level: EEMAN

•The 6 Articles of Faith/Eeman that muslims believe in includes:

1. Belief in Allah2. Belief in His angels3. Belief in His books and scriptures4. Belief in His messengers and

prophets5. Belief in the Judgement Day6. Belief in pre-decree/fate (al-Qadr)

3rd Level: IHSAN

•Ihsan is the highest level a muslim attains in his faith and worship of Allah.

•It is perfection in worshipping Allah.

•Perfection of a muslim’s worship is in worshiping Allah or doing acts as if you see Him and bearing in mind that even if you don’t, He certainly sees you.

1st Level: ISLAM• SHAHADA: to bear witness that none has the

right to be worshipped except Allah.

Surah Al-E-ImranAllâh bears witness that Lâ ilâha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), and the angels, and those having knowledge (also give this witness); (He always) maintains His creation in Justice. Lâ ilâh illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. (18)

1st Level: ISLAM• SHAHADA: to bear witness that none has the

right to be worshipped except Allah.

Surah Az-ZukhrufAnd remember when Ibrahîm (Abraham) said to his father and his people: "Verily, I am innocent of what you worship, (26) "Except Him (but Allâh Alone I worship none) Who did create me, and verily, He will guide me." (27) And he made Lâ ilâha ill-allâh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allâh Alone) a Word lasting among his offspring, that they may repent to Allâh or receive admonition). (28)

Surah Al-E-ImranSay (O Muhammad SAW): "O people of the Scriptures (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allâh (Alone), and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allâh[]. Then, if they turn away, say: "Bear witness that we are Muslims and we only worship the Creator and nothing else." (64)

1st Level: ISLAM• SHAHADA: to bear witness that

Muhammad is the final messenger.

Surah Al-TawbaThere indeed has come to you a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) from amongst yourselves (whom you know well). It grieves him that you should suffer. He (Muhammad SAW) is worried over you (to be rightly guided, to repent to Allâh, and beg Him to forgive your sins, in order that you may enter Paradise and be saved from the punishment of the Hell-fire), for the believers (he SAW is) full of pity, kind, and merciful. (128)

1st Level: ISLAM• SALAH or the obligatory prayers in Islam• ZAKAT or charity for the needy

Surah Al-BayyinaWhile they were not ordered but to worship Allah, making their submission exclusive for Him with no deviation, and to establish Salah and pay Zakah . That is the way of the straight religion. (5)

1st Level: ISLAM• SAUM or fasting in the month of Ramadan

Surah Al-BaqaraO you who believe, fasting has been an obligation to you as they were an obligation to those before you, so that you may be God-fearing, obedient to Him and avoiding what is forbidden. (183)

1st Level: ISLAM• HAJJ or pilgrimage to Mecca

Surah Al-E-Imran In it there are clear signs: The Station of Ibrahim! 29 Whoever enters it is secure. As a right of Allah, it is obligatory on the people to perform Hajj of the House - on everyone who has the ability to do so. If one disbelieves, then Allah is independent of all the worlds. (97)

1st Level: ISLAM• HAJJ or pilgrimage to Mecca

Surah Al-BaqaraWhen We made the House (Ka‘bah of Makkah) a frequented place for men, and a place of peace! 58 Make from the Station of Ibrahim 59 a place of prayer. We gave the (following directive) to Ibrahim and Isma‘il (Ishmael): “Purify My House for those who are to circumambulate (make Tawaf) 60 and those who stay in I‘tikaf, and those who bow down or prostrate themselves (in prayers). (125)

2nd Level: EEMAN• Proof for the Articles of Faith in Islam

Surah Al-BaqaraRighteousness is not that you turn your faces to the East and the West; 87 but righteousness is that one believes in Allah and the Last Day and the Angels and the Books and the Prophets, and gives wealth, despite (his) love for it, to relatives, and to orphans, the helpless, the wayfarer, and to those who ask, and (spends) in (freeing) slaves and observes the Salah (prayers) and pays Zakah… (177)

2nd Level: EEMAN• Proof for the Articles of Faith in Islam

Surah Al-QamarVerily, We have created all things with Qadar (Divine Preordainments of all things before their creation, as written in the Book of Decrees Al-Lauh Al-Mahfûz). (49)

• IHSAN in the Quran

Surah An-NahlTruly, Allâh is with those who fear Him (keep their duty unto Him), and those who are Muhsinûn (good-doers). (128)

Surah Al-ShuaraAnd put your trust in the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful, (217) Who sees you (O Muhammad SAW) when you stand up (alone at night for Tahajjud prayers). (218) And your movements among those who fall prostrate (to Allâh in the five compulsory congregational prayers). (219) Verily, He, only He, is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. (220)
