Asalaamu ‘alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
I would like to congratulate all my students for their hard work and
achievements throughout Term 2.
During Term 2, we have achieved so many milestones for our students. One
of the most significant being our year 8 and 9 accreditation and year 10
registration for 2021. My Senior Executive staff and I have worked tireless to
ensure that we continually strive for the school’s future endeavours. Rissalah
College has come a long way in such short time. We have pioneered our way
through major renovations, curriculum updates and adjustments, ICT
upgrades and the implementation of quality teaching and learning resources.
During this process, we as a College have managed to maintain and apply
quality Curricular and Extra-Curricular events and experiences for our
students without hesitation. This aspect in itself is an indicator of the hard
work and dedication provided by all Rissalah College staff and our parent
community.
This newsletter will highlight all the amazing experiences our students took part in this term. While you are
flicking through the following pages, reading, and viewing the information provided, I would like to highlight
that none of these experiences could have been attained without the meticulous planning and organisation
that my staff worked tirelessly to attain. Thus, I am honoured to have and work alongside such an amazing
team.
Education is not just about academics, high grades, and rankings, it is also, if not more so, about childhood.
Schooling experiences and memories set the precedent in a child’s love for learning, wanting to come to
school, willing to take risks and wanting to gain knowledge for the rest of their lives, is surly a view that we
all believe in.
JazakAllahu Khairan,
Ms. Yilmaz Principal
The annual Canberra Trip is a highlight for the Year 6 students at Rissalah College. The students have many
wonderful experiences and learn in ways that the classroom cannot facilitate. The trip evolved from the
long-standing tradition at Rissalah College to establish strong relationships with the wider community to
help our students become outstanding citizens of this
country. The school considers the annual Canberra trip as
an important aspect of the final year within primary
school. The trip provides students with an opportunity to
develop the independence necessary for secondary school,
as well as, consolidating key learning from the curriculum.
The trip is extensively linked to classroom learning
throughout the year. Students explore Australia's history,
including political, cultural, and key historical events.
Over 50 students enjoyed a two-day educational tour in Week 10 of Term 1, giving students an opportunity
to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, and heritage.
To take full advantage of the many attractions Canberra had to offer, the tour began early with the
students arriving at Rissalah College at 6:00 am for a 6:30am departure; the itinerary was certainly jam
packed!
On the first day, students arrived at the
comfortable and cosy Leumeah lodge
where they settled in for a quick Morning
Tea to help kick start their busy day. A
quick bus trip from the Lodge to Australia’s
Parliament house. Students were
extremely fortunate to have been given a
private tour of Parliament House, while
being given exclusive access to the House
of Representatives as well as the Senate,
the two most important places in
Australian Politics. The students were then
given the opportunity to have their own
Mini-House of Representatives, in an
exclusive part of the Parliament House.
Students were also fortunate enough to have the
Canberra Reptile Zoo within walking distance of their
accommodation. They were given a tour of the Zoo and
introduced to the various species of native reptiles that
call Australia home. Some of our brave and courageous
students were able to get up and close with their Scaly
Cold blooded friends, which included crocodiles, turtles,
blue tongued lizards and snakes, all on display to be
touched.
On the second and final day in the Australian
Capital Territory, our students were treated to
a tour of the delightful and fascinating display
of meticulously crafted miniature buildings at
Cockington Green Gardens, which featured
beautiful flower houses and monuments from
more than 30 different countries around the
world. Students were given a miniature train
ride around the Gardens, giving them a bird’s
eye view of the breath-taking scenery.
Throughout the tour, the students were outstanding in their attitude and behaviour, with many people
commenting to this effect. Thank you to all staff and students involved in making the tour such a success.
Thank you to Ms. Yilmaz, the School Principal together with Mrs. Allazze and Mrs. Najjarine, for organising
this fantastic trip.
EID GIFT GIVING 2021
On Friday 7th May, every Rissalah College student
presented another with an Eid gift just in time for
Eid Al-Fitr. Students spent time during Ramadan
creating handmade gifts to put smiles on
other students’ faces.
Kindergarten presented gifts to our Year 2 students
while, Year 1 gifted our Year 7 students with masibhas.
Year 2 presented their handmade henna
ceramic dishes to Year 3. Our Year 3 cohort
offered their personalised canvas and cards to
Kindergarten. Year 4 created wooden frames for
Year 6 students. while our Year 5 students baked
cookies, covered dates in chocolate and include a
masibha in the gifts to Years 8 & 9. Year 6 students
painted jars and filled them with lollies for Year 4.
Year 7 painted a clay tile for our Year 1 students.
Finally our Year 8 & 9 students presented their
plaques with graffiti style writing of the Year 5
students’ names.
Everyone took their gifts home on the
last day of school during Ramadan with
memories to last them a lifetime!
Year 2 History Excursion The Past in the Present
This term, Year 2 students learnt the differences between schooling in the past and compared their new knowledge to how they perceive schools today. Students attended their very first History excursion for the year, at Kamay Botany Bay National Park, in Kurnell. There were numerous activities organised to keep our students engaged and active throughout the day. We explored what life was like for the Indigenous people, including children and the daily chores they needed to complete to help their families. Students were given the opportunity to dress up, role play scenarios and explored the native Australian animal sculptures. In addition to this, students were exposed to the Aboriginal symbols that were used to build communication between people. To make this more meaningful and exciting, students used symbols of their own choosing to create a story, which was then shared with their peers. Everyone’s favourite activity was the ‘Emu Game’, which allowed students to view and feel the various types of weapons used for hunting food. Our students were great at guessing the names of many Aboriginal weapons including the boomerang, spears, and shields. Overall, the Year 2 students and teachers had an amazing time exploring the Australian history outdoors, on a sunny day with many learning experiences designed to make learning fun!
Ramadan and Qur’an Recitation Ceremony
On Friday 4 June 2021, Rissalah College students attended an award presentation to celebrate the
efforts made by the students during the glorious, blessed month of Ramadan, which honours a month
of fasting and practising acts of obedience. The month of Ramadan is a blessed month for a special
reason. It is the month in which guidance for mankind was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad
(SAW) by the creator Allah SWT. This message has been perfectly preserved both verbally and
textually in the form of our holy book, the Qur'an. It’s also the month of reading and understanding
the Quran and a time for everyone to reflect on their religion, while learning its key concepts.
The ceremony began with a beautiful Qur’an recitation from a Year 6 student, the choir then
performed a beautiful Ramadan nasheed, which was followed by Kindergarten and Year 9 students
Holy Qur’an recitation and the Ramadan Quiz awards. The most anticipated part of the event was the
announcements of the Ramadan Competition for memorisation of the Quran and the obligatory
knowledge. The competition was split into two main components including the major and minor
competition. Students were awarded with acknowledgment awards and gifts. Three students from
each grade and class were acknowledged as top winners for Qur’an memorisation and a further three
students, per class, were rewarded for their obligatory knowledge of Ramadan. I’d like to congratulate
all the participants and the winners of the Annual Ramadan Competition.
Numeracy Week is Australia’s annual celebration of empowering students and teachers in exploring the mathematical world
around us. Numeracy is the knowledge, skills, behaviours and dispositions that students need in order to use Mathematics in
a wide range of situations. It is important for individuals to develop logical thinking and reasoning strategies for their
everyday activities.
Rissalah College celebrated Numeracy Week by providing the opportunity for our students to participate in a variety of
exciting and engaging indoor and outdoor activities, where students were challenged in critical thinking, problem solving,
team building, cooking and baking, as well as having pictures taken with elegantly designed 2D picture frames designed by our
students and teachers. Through exhilarating events and activities, our students explored and discovered that Mathematics is all
around us!
Kindergarten and Year 1 enthusiastically discovered their measurement and problem-
solving skills while baking tasty Rice Krispies Cupcakes. Students proudly
posed for pictures with stylishly designed 2D picture
frames, as well as participating in the Numeracy incursion
program, which provided them with the opportunity to
strengthen their critical thinking skills in variety of action
filled and mind tickling games.
Year 2 and Year 3 relished calculating,
measuring and producing the delicious Spider drinks.
Students participated in the outdoor activity of
carefully carrying the water-soaked sponges across the
playground to fill a bucket, while demonstrating their
understanding of litres and millilitres. Their enthusiasm
of posing for pictures with their favourite 2D picture
frames and solving puzzles during the incursion activity
was an amazing sight to cherish and treasure.
Year 4 enjoyed a baking activity, which involved measuring
the ingredients and ensuring quality control of the delicious
cupcakes. Students were engaged in a team building activity;
forming 2D objects on the ground by connecting their hands
and feet and ensuring accurate designs. Students applied their
critical thinking skills to solve puzzles and magically untangle
their wrists, which were tied to ropes.
Year 5 and 6 challenged themselves during the incursion activities by using their
critical thinking skills to solve the mentally stimulating activities designed for
Stage 3. Year 5 students confidently and cooperatively worked in teams to plan
and design a house using the fixed perimeter provided to them. They were also
engaged and enjoyed creating 3D objects using paddle pop sticks. Stage 3 students
demonstrated their cooking and creative skills by baking and decorating amazing cookies
and sweets. Memories of students proudly posing for pictures with the 2D picture
frames personally designed by our students will be treasured as the highlight of
Numeracy Week.
World of Maths Incursion: We were delighted to have
the World of Maths team visit our school. Our students
were intrigued and passionate when participating in
engaging and differentiated problem solving stations.
Students were able to develop and apply various
mathematical and critical thinking skills to solve complex
mathematical problems and find solutions, whilst
enjoying the games provided.

Chau Chak Museum at the University of Sydney
In History this Semester, Year 7 students have been
investigating the ancient past, while learning about Roman
and Egyptian societies. To further enhance our students’
learning in this subject, our College organised an excursion
to the Chau Chak Museum at the University of Sydney.
Students participated in observational and hands-on
activities, exploring ancient artefacts and took a tour of the
ancient history museum.
Boys and girls engaged in a hands-on activity, where they were able to handle genuine artefacts from ancient Roman, Egypt, Persia, and Greece.
Year 1 Excursion Sydney Tramway Museum
On Wednesday the 23rd of June, Year 1
students were so excited to ride their
first vintage tram at the Sydney
Tramway Museum. They explored the
different variety of trams from the
1800s and what each tram was used for.
Students entered the Museum with
eyes wide open looking at the different
buses and trams from the past and
present. They entered a SPOOKY tram
that was used to transport prisoners over 100 years ago and were told
about the famous story of a prisoner trying to
escape the tram!
All Aboard!!! Students received vintage tickets to board their
tram ride through the Royal National Park. They
enjoyed waving at the pedestrians and searching
for wild native animals on their journey.
Sketching a tram Year 1 students were able to show their creative side by sketching their
own tram. Students observed the detail of a displayed tram and used their
choice of colours to show their creativity.
Year 5 Excursion Australian National maritime
museum In this section of this newsletter, we would like to inform you of an amazing learning experience provided to Year 5 students.
Every student loves to get out of the classroom and explore. Great school excursions take planning and effort, but the rewards can be huge for both students and teachers and something students will remember for a long time. As part of our History Unit for Semester 2, Year 5 students had the opportunity to be exposed to new experiences and observe new things that are not available at school, such as the real-life experience to The Maritime Museum. Our students had a chance to walk in Captain Cook’s footsteps and learnt about the everyday struggles the crew faced in their expeditions. They also visited HMAS Vampire, the third Daring Class destroyer for the Royal Australian Navy, which was ordered from Cockatoo Island Dockyard on 3 December 1946. Fabrication commenced in September 1948, and the keel was laid on 1 July 1952. Our students came back with a once in a lifetime experience, which we are sure they will cherish for years to come.
