1 KNIGHTWATCH February 12, 2016 FROM THE PRINCIPAL . . . Adam Kirsch Let’s Go – Work for Peace Peace is something that we all crave. The canned answer is that individuals want peace for all people, but world peace will only come after individuals have peace within themselves. We cannot fix the problems of society before our internal struggles are calmed. We have all had the experience where our life is filled with uncertainty, anxiousness, and even fear. It is during those times that we recognize the need for personal peace. I don’t believe that we can seek out peace for ourselves. Certainly we may take steps to create a sense of peace by eliminating distractions, clearing our minds, or isolating ourselves from the business of the day. What typically happens, however, is that we create additional stress by rushing and working to pursue peace. So how do we experience peace? I believe that peace comes when we recognize the situations and opportunities that we can and cannot control. True peace doesn’t come from resignation or despair at uncontrollable situations, but rather in acknowledging that we must hand things off to our Savior. He has promised to carry them for us. It comes in trusting in the unfailing promises of God. It comes in truly believing Jesus when he said “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27 )”. It is a peace that comes from beyond our understanding about the work of Jesus Christ in our lives. (Philippians 4:7) We will not find true peace in this world, because it is a world of sin. (John 16:33) Ultimate peace will only come at the last day when all believers are brought into the fold of heaven. Yet, as we ourselves are transformed, we will be able to interact and serve those around us. Through us, we pray, others will be able to witness the peace that comes from God. We pray this transformation through the Holy Spirit would then be evident in others. It is only through this individual and life changing process that individuals and groups of us will have peace. May the Spirit begin that work within each of us so we encounter peace. Let’s Go!

Let’s Go –

Let’s Go With Confidence

How confident are you?

I have found that there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. This line is

blurred when you look at individuals who are often in a position of power or authority

– politicians, athletes, celebrities, pastors, teachers, and even principals. The world

continues to share the message that pride and self-assurance are one of the ways to get

ahead in this world, but as Christians we recognize that “pride comes before the fall”

(Proverbs 16:18).

So what are Christians to do? Are we called to waver when confronted with

challenges or to meekly go about our business? Absolutely not. We are, however,

called to place our confidence in something outside of ourselves. We are called to put

our confidence not in our own power, but in the power that has come as the Holy

Spirit has gifted us with authority.

We go out in the world, not scared or ashamed of who we serve but in full confidence

that He goes alongside us – protecting us, guiding us, and upholding those who trust in

Him. We go with the Word of God as an offensive weapon understanding that it, and

it alone, has the power to transform lives. We go with confidence understanding that

we “can do all things through Him who gives us strength” (Philippians 4:13). May we

receive the authority of God and go out with the assurance that, in Him and through

Him, we can serve with confidence. Let’s Go!

Let’s Go – Work for Peace

Peace is something that we all crave. The canned answer is that individuals want peace for all people,

but world peace will only come after individuals have peace within themselves. We cannot fix the

problems of society before our internal struggles are calmed. We have all had the experience where our

life is filled with uncertainty, anxiousness, and even fear. It is during those times that we recognize the

need for personal peace.

I don’t believe that we can seek out peace for ourselves. Certainly we may take steps to create a sense

of peace by eliminating distractions, clearing our minds, or isolating ourselves from the business of the

day. What typically happens, however, is that we create additional stress by rushing and working to

pursue peace.

So how do we experience peace? I believe that peace comes when we recognize the situations and

opportunities that we can and cannot control. True peace doesn’t come from resignation or despair at

uncontrollable situations, but rather in acknowledging that we must hand things off to our Savior. He

has promised to carry them for us. It comes in trusting in the unfailing promises of God. It comes in

truly believing Jesus when he said “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give as the

world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27)”. It is a peace that

comes from beyond our understanding about the work of Jesus Christ in our lives. (Philippians 4:7)

We will not find true peace in this world, because it is a world of sin. (John 16:33) Ultimate peace will

be able to witness the peace that comes from God. We pray this transformation through the Holy Spirit

would then be evident in others. It is only through this individual and life changing process that

individuals and groups of us will have peace. May the Spirit begin that work within each of us so we

ATHLETICS . . .

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS

TO: Parents of all Students, Faculty and Staff, Leaders of All Auxiliary Organizations, Lutheran Special School

Parents and Staff

Each year we are required to let you know what we are doing to comply with the Federal Asbestos Hazard Emergency

Response Act (AHERA). As we informed you in the past, we do have some asbestos—containing materials in the school. At

this time we need to update your concerning the status of our management plan, the periodic surveillance that we conduct and

the response actions we have taken.

Management Plan: Our management plan is on file with the State of Wisconsin. Copies are kept at each school. You may

arrange to see the management plan by contacting me at (414) 461-2927.

Periodic Surveillance: We inspect all asbestos containing materials every six months to be sure they are still in good

condition. Inspections are done in January and July. As required by law, professional inspection and update of the

management plan are done every three years. Records of inspections are maintained in the office of the Director of Buildings

and Properties. You may arrange to see them by contacting me at (414) 461-2927.

Response Actions: Our maintenance staff performs what are called “operations and maintenance” actions in dealing with

our asbestos-containing materials. These response actions assure that the asbestos containing materials remain in a safe and

undamaged condition and allow the Maintenance Department to make any necessary small-scale repairs. Larger scale projects

in the past have been professionally abated in accordance with AHERA standards. Records of these actions are kept with the

management plan. You may arrange to see them by contacting me at (414) 461-2927.

It is our intent to comply fully with the law and to provide students, faculty, staff, and guests with a safe and healthy building.

I will be glad to answer any questions or address any concerns that any of you may have about asbestos in our building.

Sincerely,

John Radewahn

SNOW DAYS In the event severe weather conditions would occur, please check one of the local media

outlets for information on school closings. Our recommendation is that you check the WTMJ website

(www.todaystmj4.com) for the earliest and most up-to-date information. Other media outlets broadcasting school

closings include:

Television: WTMJ-4, FOX-6, WISN-12, CBS-58

Radio: 94.5 KTI Country, 620WTMJ

Internet: fox6now.com/weather, WISN.com, cbs58.com

Since our students come from many parts of the metropolitan area, weather conditions may vary from one area to

another. Please use discretion in sending your child to school even though school may be in session. A guideline to use in

making your decision would be the decision that your local public school district has made. (Example: If you live in

Cedarburg and the Cedarburg school district has closed due to the weather, consider keeping your child home from school

that day.)

In the event that a sudden snowstorm forces school to close before the regular closing time, make certain that your child

knows exactly where to go and what to do should no one be home during the school day.
