Grand Knight’s Message

Greetings Brother Knights,

As always, it’s a pleasure to serve as your Grand Knight.

Brother Bill Collins has informed me that opportunities still exist to fill some Program Director or Chairman positions. For more information contact Brother Bill at (239) 699-4161. Take this opportunity to get involved and make a difference! We are always looking for Knights to man the counter at Church, just 15 minutes before and after Mass is all that’s needed. Thanks to all for volunteering for this duty.

To all the Knights, and their Ladies, who participated in the Feed My Starving Children Mobile Pack SKD event (17-18 Feb) – a job well done! Special thanks to all our Brothers who came out to the Art Show and Sale (22-23 Feb) to work it or attend it; it was a huge success! We hosted 16 local artists and when all was said and done netted a profit of $715.63! Thank you to Brother Steve and Sharon Shaw for organizing it! Additionally, thank you to all the Brothers who showed up to support it, either buy working at or buying at it! Those present were: Bob Snyder, Bill Crowder, Robert Hofer, Chris Barger, Nicholas Weaver, Dave Zenk, Kevin Lynch, Jack Pounds, Richard Wise, Joe Vella, Mike Sushil, John Bicking, Joe Riley, Ernie Sierocinski, Jerry Hart, Jim Drost, Leo Lenn, Brian Trinkle, Bob Holecek, Father “Ricky” Varner, and myself. Additionally, thank you to the Ladies from the Auxiliary who came out to support it either by working at it or buying at it: Cathy Pounds, Karen Snyder, Pat Crowder, Alice Hofer, Cathy Barger, Anna Vella, Mia Sushil, Robyn Eliuk, Peggy Sierocinski, Patty Wise, and Maggie Drost. Again, sure hope I didn’t miss anyone, it’s important to place your name on the sign in sheet! The Iwo Jima Ceremony (23 Feb), we could not have asked for a nicer day, the weather was perfect! I mention this as a number of our Brothers are Marines and the 4th Degree Honor Guard was present to honor the survivors from the Battle of Iwo Jima. We had three with us this day; Cpl. Harold “Pappy” Wagner, Michael Gibeau, and Edward C. Anderson. God Bless them for their service and sacrifices! About 200 people were in attendance for the ceremony to include our Cape Coral Mayor, Joe Coviello, who read a proclamation making Feb 23rd the 75th Anniversary Memorial of the Battle of Iwo Jima celebrated here in Cape Coral, FL. Letters were also read from Governor DeSantis, U.S. Senator Scott, and State Senator Benacquisto was represented by her Legislative Assistant, Josh Goergen. Additional officials attending were City Council Member Jessica Cosden, Cape Coral Police and Fire Chiefs, Lt. Angelo Vaughn representing the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Sean and Debi Lux representing the Collier/Lee County Honor Flight, and Col George Miserendino

Page 3: Knights of ColumbusDall. Our guest speaker was Mr. Michael Geml who was responsible for rescuing the monument from total devastation many years ago. Mike’s an honorary Marine and

representing the Collier County Marine Corps League. Presenting Honors at the ceremony were the VFW 8463 Honor Guard with Rifles, the Cape Coral Police Honor Guard, the Lee County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard, Lt. Vaughn and the Lee County Sheriff’s VOICE Unit, and the Knights of Columbus Color Guard (to include Brothers Tom Rizzo, Jack Marandino, Anthony Catapano, Bob Guillery, John Paddock, and Don Lapham). As always, Guns and Hose Pipes and Drums was present to provide ceremonial music and patriotic songs were sung by Don and Emily Sansone and Anina Dall. Our guest speaker was Mr. Michael Geml who was responsible for rescuing the monument from total devastation many years ago. Mike’s an honorary Marine and gave a detailed accounting of the Battle of Iwo Jima to include the Flag Raisings and the erection of the National Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima Monument) in Arlington, VA. Though the official ceremony went from 11:00-12:00, it was bracketed from 10:00-2:00 by music apropos to the times. BBQ was also available from Dave’s Bangin’ BBQ! As we say in the Marine Corps, “A good time was had by all!” Video News coverage can be found at the following sites if the hyperlinks don’t work just copy and paste the address into your browser): Hundreds gather in Cape Coral to honor veterans who fought in Battle of Iwo Jima - https://www.nbc-2.com/story/41773588/hundreds-gather-in-cape-coral-to-honor-veterans-who-fought-in-battle-of-iwo-jima 75 years ago today, US Marines raised the American Flag over Iwo Jima - https://www.winknews.com/2020/02/23/75-years-ago-today-us-marines-raised-the-american-flag-over-iwo-jima/ Our next big Knight’s event is our St. Patrick’s Day Dinner Dance (14 Mar), our Easter Egg Hunt (11 April), and our Golf Tournament (2 May). We desperately need Brother Knights to volunteer to Chair activities and/or just help out – we just can’t do it all without you, but we can do just about anything with you – let’s keep the Knights out front Leading the Way!!! REMEMBER, our Officer’s meeting (6:30 PM) now precedes our General meeting (7:30 PM) thus cutting a meeting out of our monthly schedule. If you’ve read this and might be thinking you’ve missed out on some good Brotherhood times, you’re right! Get involved, be the change you’re looking for!

Vivat Jesus! Grand Knight Tim Kenny [email protected] 239-810-1140

Finally, as always, your Brothers want to know if you need our prayers or other assistance. So please let me know should that be the case. Please join us for the Rosary in the Parish Hall at 6:55

PM before each Business Meeting.

The Domestic Church Initiative that we are operating under is requiring more and more time and talent for K of C church related projects. Consider volunteering for just one project a year to either lead and/ or assist in the organization, planning and participation in these assignments. Thank you to all that participate. Examples of easy things that a Knight can do:

Helping prepare and serve at one of our parish events—such as the 5th Sunday of the month Pancake Breakfast. Parrish Lenten Fish Fry’s and SKD Feast Day Celebration.

Participating in the annual Walk for Life Helping out with our efforts to support a Seminarian Helping out with our partnership with the Parish Youth Program. Helping out with one of our programs for families: Easter egg hunt. Making one or more visits to Brothers who are shut in.
