    K of C “Schola Cantorum”

We want you!! We are in need of new members. The only requirements are an appreciation of traditional

Sacred Music as well as more contemporary and patriotic music, the ability to carry a tune,

and the enjoyment of fellowship with other Schola members. We meet on Tuesday

evenings, beginning 3-4 weeks prior to a scheduled event, at Pellegrino’s

Event Center on Littlerock Rd. at 7pm. Light refreshments are usually

provided. We sing for such events as Memorial Day Mass at St. Michael

Church, followed by ceremonies at Calvary Cemetery, our annual

Memorial Day Mass for deceased members at the Hall, our annual

Christmas recital for the Council and 4th Degree Christmas party, and any other special

events that we are invited to sing at. We have become especially well known, in past recent

years, for our singing of the National Anthem at Cheney Stadium, prior to one of the Rainier’s games. If you

are interested, please call Sam Pellegrino at (360) 259-7337.

    KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS

Once again this year, Brother Knight Sam

Pellegrino, along with a group of volunteer

Knights and Squires, will build the “Keep

Christ in Christmas” display on the patio of

    Pellegrino’s Italian Kitchen, 205 Cleveland

Ave. in Tumwater. Prior to Thanksgiving,

we will need 10 trees ranging in height

from 6-12 feet. We will also need a donation

of 6 bales of straw delivered to the patio on

Sunday or Monday after the trees have been

erected. The work party is scheduled for

    Saturday, November 18th, beginning with

the cutting down of trees at the Schilter

Family Tree Farm out at the end of Martin

Way at 8am. We will need all the help we

can get from Squires and Knights! That

morning, Sam will provide warm food and

beverages for the cold and hungry volunteers.

Most of the twinkling net lighting and some

    of the wiring will again have to be replaced;

all statues are in need of re-painting, the big

angel and the deer figurines are becoming

very worn, not to mention the dramatic

increase in the cost of electricity. Last year,

on the day before Christmas Eve, someone

stole our statue of the Baby Jesus and the

manger and the replacement cost was over

$200. Folks who make an annual pilgrimage

to our Nativity display were very shocked and

disappointed to find a missing Baby Jesus.

Your financial help with this project would be

    greatly appreciated. Tax deductible

contributions can be made to the Knights of

Columbus and mailed to GK Mike Colosi at

PO Box 3511, Lacey, 98509. Checks should

be labeled “Keep Christ in Christmas

Project.” Thank you in advance for your

generous support. Please be sure to stop by

during this holiday season to view this

impressive display and take photos with your

family! The lights will be on beginning

    Saturday, December 2nd through Sunday

Family of the Month for September 2017

    Don and Song Bunz

The Knights of Columbus, Council 1643 congratulates Don

and Song Bunz for being selected the September Family of the

Month. Each month the Council selects one of our families

worthy of this special honor. Don and Song epitomize the

family life that we treasure. Song is from South Korea where

they met and have now been married for 44 years. They have

been blessed with three wonderful children and 2

    grandchildren.

Don became a Knight of Columbus on his 18th birthday and

joined Council 1643 in 2011. He is also a member of the

Fourth Degree Assembly and has been a "Sir Knight" since

early 2012. Don retired as a Command Sergeant Major from

the US Army after a long and distinguished career. Don says

that he was never stateside for a full year. While he was busy

protecting his country, Song was busy being Mom and raising their family. Don followed his

military career with service to the Veterans Administration where he was involved with quality

assurance (QA) reviews for the Seattle District, and as a Family Benefits Counselor as well.

Don is active in virtually all the Council and Assembly functions with the support of Song. He

may volunteer to provide the meal before one of our Council meeting, but Song actually does

the cooking. Don helps feeding the men in need at Drexel House; again, Don provides the

food that Song has prepared. She makes it possible for Don to participate. Some of the many

activities that Don helps with are the semi-annual 40 Days for Life campaign, Tootsie Roll

campaign, October Fest, Knights before Christmas, Mass and March for Life, St. Patrick's Day

dinner, St. Joseph's Day Community dinner and many more.

Council 1643 officers and members would like to congratulate Brother Don and his wife Song

for their good work over the many years of their Catholic lives. Please extend hearty

congratulations to Don and Song as Family of the Month in Council 1643 for September 2017.

Knight of the Month for October 2017 Brother Raymond Patron

The Father Nicholas Rausch OSB Council 1643 Knight

of the month for October is Brother Raymond Patron.

Ray is a member of Saint Michael Parish. He is a 4th

Degree Knight and participates in the Forty Days for

Life, Monastery Work Day, Special Olympics Tootsie

Roll fundraiser, the Community Kitchen, Habitat for

Humanity, and supports Council 1643 Knights of

Columbus events and lesser projects. Brother Ray has

been an officer of council as our inside guard,

volunteered to be Deputy Grand Knight, and will now

assume responsibilities as Grand Knight for our council

    starting in December 2017.

Ray joined the Knights of Columbus in 2013 at Fort

Lee, Virginia. The reason he joined the Knights was to

be a better man, Christian, and role model to his children by helping others in the community

    in need.

Council 1643 officers and members would like to congratulate Brother Ray for his good work

over the many years of his Catholic life. Please extend hearty congratulations to him as Knight

of the Month in Council1643 for October 2017.
