Brother Knights,
It is with great pleasure that I announce Brother Alex Onda has accepted the Financial Secretary position. He is replacing Brother George Nowakowski in this position. When you see George please thank him for his exemplary work over the last six years. He has done a great job. Going forward if you need to contact George, please use his personal email address. Also please keep Fr. Bill Volmer in your prayers as he is currently fighting a bad case of pneumonia. The treatments they have been giving him are starting to work, and he is doing better. He is not accepting visitors at this time as he needs to rest. Please pray for Fr. Bill to get better soon.
Finally, the new year will be filled with new activities as highlighted in our section here. Todd Chwialkowski organized a basketball free throw contest at Castle Rock Middle School. The turnout was great with 56 participants, and Knights serving 100 hot dogs, sodas and chips. A special thank you to Jeff Rubino and Shannon Segall along with Jacob & Elizabeth Chwialkowski, Olivia Harman& Shannon’s boys for helping run the competition. Also thanks to Rich Vap, Leo Fournier, Norm Tuccy, and Tom Zook for taking care of the food. Last but not least, Colleen and Emily Chwialkowski for overseeing the registration. In addition thank you to everyone who attended the Epiphany Party in early January. It was a fun and successful event for all. Enjoy the pictures!
Vivat Jesus!

Remember Dom Cingoranelli’s report from the book Rediscover Jesus? The message of being open and retaining a positive attitude which will make virtually all things possible, as all things are possible with God. Strive to rid yourself of the cynicism that strangles joy and kills hope while filling our hearts and minds with doubt. If you’d like to read more on this subject, here is the book cover image in case you want to go get a version for yourself.
As mentioned in the January Council Meeting, our council has a new mailing address, which is: Knights of Columbus Council 8909 P.O. Minutes of General Council 8909 Meeting January 27, 2016
General Meeting called to order by GK, Cal Weatherly at 7:04 PM. Roll Call, absent officers: Advocate (excused) and Trustee (3
rd year). Chaplin Deacon Jacob (Jake) urged us to think ahead and prepare for Lent. In preparation, pray for God’s help and
for God to change us for the better. Lent is a time for sacrifice, examination of conscience and performing service acts of charity and love. Use the Adoration Chapel or a quiet place to meditate and increase our prayer life through the rosary, daily Mass, first Friday and first Saturday. Do not sin during Lent (i.e. control anger), share time and talent to do God’s work and improve ourselves on a personal level (i.e. reduce weight and improve health). November Meeting Minutes were approved as published. Applications and Admissions Two new membership applications were approved by the Council, Jason Breed (3
rd
degree transfer from Florida) and Thomas Whittrock (transfer from New Mexico). Trustee Report No Report. Grand Knight Address to Council Members Grand Knight, Cal Weatherly stated that we will be facing many new challenges to our operations in the months and years to come. In working through these challenges, we must leave behind our distress and concerns about the past and focus on the new problems as Christian Gentlemen. Let Jesus be our guide as we deal with these upcoming issues. Treasurers Report – Total account balance as of 12/31/2015 was $58,779.00 and the SFA account balance was $9,564.15. As of12/31/2015, the Council was $7,769.29 net positive to budget. Financial Secretary Report The Council received a nice letter from Supreme to thank us for the $250 donation we made to the Christians at Risk fund, due to our sale of wooden crosses. To date 118 members are in arrears with respect to payment of dues. The Secretary reviewed the requirements for the Shining Armor Award. A 4
th degree exemplification will be held on February 27
th and the deadline for
registration is February 12th. Audit Report The Audit Report is complete. Matt Basalla is being trained to do the Audit in the

th. State Advocate
Address State Advocate, John Herskovits addressed the Council about letters and concerns from Fr. Brad. Due to a situation at another Parish over their Fish Fry, Fr. Brad requested a letter stating that it was the Knights of Columbus that cancelled our Fish Fry at SFA. The State Deputy met with Fr. Brad and agreed to issue the letter. Fr. Brad stated that he wants the Council to remain at SFA and continue with our activities, such as Pancake Breakfasts, Charity Work and Community Service. Also the liquor Policy has changed so that no alcohol will be served unless advanced permission is granted for each occasion. Deacon Jake suggested that we look at the Parish Mission Statement to identify work that we can do. New Council Mailing Address Alex Onda has obtained a new P.O. Box address for the Council. Cal will discuss this in the next newsletter. Sale of Deep Fryer Fr. Brad asked to buy the deep fryer in the kitchen so that all equipment will be property of SFA Parish. The sale was approved by the Council. Vacate Knights Room We have been asked to vacate the current Knights room by the end of February. The contents of the room will be moved to a closet and to our storage shed. Alcohol and Bingo License No Alcohol will be served and no Bingo or other gaming will be allowed without prior permission being obtained from the Parish office. The Council will still be responsible for obtaining licenses for such events. February Breakfast / Membership Drive A pancake breakfast will be held on February 21
st. Also we will run a membership drive in conjunction with the breakfast. Volunteers are
needed for both activities. Cooking for High School Youth On February 28th, we will cook for a meeting of the High School
Youth Group. 2 or 3 Knights are needed to prepare cheese steaks and French fries for the youth. Bean Bag Tournament Robb Kidd is forming a committee to organize a Bean Bag Tournament. The tournament will be held next September, will have 5 flights and will include a Parent and Child flight. th at 7:00 P.M. The GK asked for a volunteer to organize and
run the County Fair project. Youth Group Donation Increase The Council voted to increase our donation to the Youth Group from $750 to $1,000. The donation is in recognition of their service to the Epiphany Party. 4
th Degree Report No Report. Field
Agent Report The Field Agent handed out an information sheet on the Flexible Premium Annuity product and also discussed the performance of the insurance program over the last year. District Deputy Report No Report. Lecturer Dom Cingoranelli addressed us on the message from one chapter of the “Rediscover Jesus” book. The chapter called “People of Possibility” reminds us that a positive attitude makes virtually all things possible (all things are possible for God). On the other hand, Cynicism strangles joy, kills hope, and fills our hearts and minds with doubt. The point is to open your heart, mind, and soul to the possibilities.
