Grand Knights CornerBrother Knights

I hope you are all set for our Council’s biggest

season of the year; Lent. We have a bunch of

activities coming up including our largest

fundraiser for the council, the Lent fish fries.

We’re also conducting our annual Pasta Dinner

which will be for raising money for this year’s

Tootsie Roll Drive. It will be a big event as we’ll

be handing out the $7k we collected last year (a

new council record) to our 5 local school special

education programs and to our local ARC. Don

may even have Denver news channels at the

dinner. So I’d like to see a big turnout of Knights

at the Pasta dinner.

I’d also like to congratulate Chris Ketchum and

Greg Bishop for taking their 3rd degree in Jan.

We look forward to you two starting to take on

Annual Survey ResultsThe results are in and in 2016 our

council contributed 3,100 man hours and

donated nearly $9,000 to OLP and other

church and community groups. Let’s try

to top that in 2017!

March for LifeThousands of people from the Rocky

Mountain region gathered for this year’s

March for Life, including our own Don

Dietzenbach and Dan Mares and his

wife. Archbishop Aquila said mass and

then spoke on the capital steps.“The forces promoting the Culture of

Death have not slowed their pace and

we must not slow ours.”

The national March for Life was also well

attended and had the Vice-President of

Quarterly Blood DriveOur 1st quarter blood drive is coming up on

2/18, same day as the pasta dinner. Sign up

after masses 2/10 to 2/11.

Drink lots of fluids and try not to get any in

the meat sauce.

pursuing it. The next 2nd/3rd degree is May 20th

in Littleton.

some beads at our Shrove Tuesday pancake

breakfast, and get ready for 40 days of Fish.

Jan – Dick Thomas

attended and had the Vice-President of

the US Mike Pence speak, the highest

ranking speaker ever at the March for

Life.

We’re continuing to fight for life with 40

Days for Life. Every day in Lent (Mar 1

to Apr 9) there will be prayer vigils

outside of Denver’s Planned Parenthood

abortion clinic.

AED Purchase ResolutionAt the January meeting the 2nd vote was passed for our

council to buy Father an AED (Automated External

Defibrillator) kit for the church and Father has picked out the

AED, costing $1,352.

MembershipHelp Recruit New Members!

It’s every Knights job to help the council grow by recruiting,

and with all of the meals we’re conducting it’s a great

opportunity to show parishioners what we do and encourage

them to join the Knights.

It’s everyone job to get out and recruit! We still need one

more new member to meet our annual quota.

We also still need one more insurance members to fulfill our

quota to earn our Star Council award for the 2nd year running.

New 3rd and 4th Degree MembersCongratulations to Chris Ketchum and Greg Bishop for

completing your 2nd and 3rd degrees in Jan!

Youth RetreatSeveral of our Knights went to heaven for a

weekend in Jan. They helped out Father with

the Youth Retreat 1/27 to 1/29 and kept 40 kids

well fed all weekend. Some Knights also

participated in the retreat like Tom Oliver who

was St Peter for the weekend. Father sends his

thanks to the Knights for the support.

Poster ContestsWe wrapped up our Keep Christ in Christmas poster contest with

a total of 6 entries. The judging is completed and the winners

will be announced at the 10am mass on 2/12.

We’ve also begun our Substance Abuse poster contest. Entries

are due by the end of Feb.

1st Degree Team

The 1st Degree Team continues rehearsals, but we still need a

few more Knights as understudies. If you’re interested in

being a part of our 1st degree team contact Dick Thomas at RKTHOMAS@Q.COM. The team meets for rehearsal at

5:30pm before the monthly council business meeting.

There’s no obligation to attend every rehearsal or 1st degree.

Pasta DinnerOur annual pasta dinner is coming up on 2/18 after the 5pm mass. This

dinner is to raise money for this year’s Tootsie Roll Drive. We’ll also

be handing out checks to our 5 local schools’ special needs programs

and to our local ARC.

This will be a big event for our council and we may even have Denver

news channels there, so we want as many Knights to show up as we can

to either work or just eat. If you’d like to help in the kitchen or upstairs

contact Doyle, Scot, or Tom Rura.

Shrove Tues Pancake BreakfastKicking off our Mardi Gras partying, we are serving a free pancake

breakfast for the Parish on 2/28 from 6:30am to 9am. Come eat before

going to work and grab some beads provided by Father!

We’ll also be looking for Knights to cook bright and early at 5:30am.

Fish FriesOur favorite event of the year is coming up, our Lent Fish Fries! We’ve

decided that the Knights will offer a fish fry every Friday in Lent. So

we’ll need lots of help over Lent to cook 6 fish dinners.
