For Your Information: First Degree -
A First Degree exemplification ceremony, by
which a man joins the Order, explicates the virtue
of CHARITY. After the completion he is then said
to be a First Degree Knight of Columbus and then
can participate in all council activities and subse-
quent degrees. First Degree members are encour-
aged to attain the Second and Third Degrees.
Ladies, we are in a slump. We need to
energize ourselves. We need to make
plans for the second Tuesday of the
month to be fun and interesting.
Know we all have our busy lives:
home, work, errands, appointments, sometimes
children or grandchildren or family members.
We need to look for ideas so that our time can
be enjoyable or educational or just connecting.
There are two months that are already booked
each year: July with the installation of Council
Officers and November which is the Memorial
Mass. We are also closing in fast on the Nun’s
Appreciation which occurs in September each
year and which we greatly assist the Council
Knights. Nonetheless, think of topics, speakers,
games, crafts or maybe a Saturday travel so
that on Tuesday, 9 June 2015, we can get to-
gether with refreshments and reconnect. As we
celebrated the Resurrection and Ascension of
our Lord and a renewed commitment to follow
Him, let us continue that new life as we remem-
ber and pray for family, friends, the world and
His Holiness Pope Francis. God Bless You and
Keep You. Laura Boone
A Must Read:
Do you know that January 2015 not
only started a new year but also start-
ed another year for members of Coun-
cil 4140 to pay their membership
dues? (Currently the Dues are $32.00
with a voluntary $10.00 for State Charity).
When members fail to pay their dues, it directly
affects not only Council programs but also State
and Supreme per capita requirements. Not to
mention the expense for the Council constantly
mailing reminders.
If you no longer wish to stay in the Order. I will
need a note signed by you stating you no longer
wish to stay in the Knights of Columbus. Upon
receipt of your request, I will immediately for-
ward it to Supreme Council for their action.
Send request to:

Brother Knight Mario Arellano was chairman of
the Tootsie Roll Drive for this year, and has been
the Chairman of the Annual Children's Christmas
for the past 4 years. Mario is also the Chancellor
for 4140. His position is the third ranking officer
within the council. If the Grand Knight and Depu-
ty Grand Knight are unable to perform their du-
ties due to absence or incapacitation, the Chan-
cellor assumes those duties until such time as the
Grand Knight or his deputy are able. The Chan-
cellors main function is to assist the Grand
Knight and Deputy Grand Knight in an capacity
requested or required, however, the Chancellor
is expected to pay special attention to new mem-
bers and those members who are sick or in dis-
tress. In those councils that support and sponsor
a seminarian, the Chancellor is responsible for all
correspondence between the council and the sem-
inarian. 4140 is proud have members such as
Mario Arellano.

Have You Insured Your Most Valuable Asset? Is your income protected if you become sick or
injured and cannot work? Your ability to work
and earn an income is your most valuable asset.
Yet a disability could prevent you from earning
that income. Just one year of a disability could
eliminate your savings. Income Armor, an indi-
vidual disability income insurance product from
the Knights of Columbus, should be a key part of
your overall financial plan and family’s protec-
tion. If you are ill or injured, Income Armor pro-
vides tax-free monthly benefits to help you meet
living expenses and maintain you and your fami-
ly’s standard of living. Your monthly benefits
help you pay your mortgage and other monthly
bills, while your savings and retirement assets
remain intact.
In short, if you have a job and don’t have a way to
protect that paycheck, you should seriously con-
sider Income Armor today. I look forward to
meeting with you. Michael Heriquez
