Benefit

The location was an out-of-town poor area of Port Eliza-beth, a port city in the south of the Republic of South Af-rica, where there were relatively higher safety concerns of inhabitants because of low illumination and shadowy zones at night. To solve this problem, High Mast solution was adopted using GigaTera MAHA 400-W products.

Existing 1-KW HPS lamps were replaced with MAHA 400-W of GigaTera High Mast to save energy by 60% as well as improve illumination by amazingly twofold (measured at 80 m away from a light pole).

Because the area was wide and poles were installed at a long distance from each other, site inspection and simulation analyses were conducted several times to find and apply the optimal solution, desired illumination, and uniformity factor values.

As a result, very bright lighting was created for even illu-mination without any shadowy areas at night to ensure comfortable and safe living conditions even at night.

An analysis performed after the installation showed positively reduced crime and accident rates.
