Iced tea in hand, muddy waters on the hifi, the rocker tall is deeply rooted in Southern American porch culture. While its heritage might be southern, the Rocker Tall finds elegance in its lengthy back and slendor lines. It plays with the old, traditional shape one might remember their grandmother rocking in, and elevates it with its exposed oversized bottom curves and slim vertical lines. The oak pieces fit seamlessly within the steel frame. No bolts, no screws. A perfect dialogue of two materials.

Elegant in its profile, the Klein Home Collection 01 utilises a single material dimension for its solid parts, allowing the oak to seamlessly fit in line with the geometry of the laser cut plate steel. The Rocker Tall with a torched oak wood option and matte black painted steel frame further exposes the seamless relationship of the two materials.
01

02
The weight and dominance of plate steel is toned down with the delicate incorporation of curvature and roundness into the profile of the Rocker Tall.
03
Captured between two industrially tooled plates of steel, natural materials are elevated and expressed for their beauty and warmth of touch.

The conversation started when an overflow of bought reading material required a change in our living room organization. The need and desire, birthed the idea of a single material piece, easy to move around the space. A piece that is always there for you to put down that cup of coffee or rest your book on the open page. A piece that beautifully stores away your most recent magazine and book treasures.

22
01
It is the inherent strength of the plate steel that allows for this design to be executed with extraordinarily thin steel profiles. All the while keeping its strength and stability intact.
02
The Magazine Rack enables you to store, move and shuffle around your book and magazine stacks. It is light weight, easily movable and with its double shelving alows for storage of a good quantity of your favourite reads.

After an initial 3d design, industrially tooled plates of steel are laser cut and then assembled into shape by a local Belgian steel artisan.
03
24
Low in its stance, wide in its grip, the Rocker Low creates the perfect, soft shell for release and rest of your body. It feels oversized. It feels comfortable. With its easy rocking, it has the ability to lure you from a hard days work into a gentle slumber.

The steel profiles are laser cut in Belgium, just minutes away from our studio. The leather for the sling is sourced locally and laser cut to perfect dimension in our home studio in Antwerp.
02
After hand picking the best naturally dyed cow hides, we use an in-house laser cutter to perfectly cut the final shape of the leather sling. The sling is suspended between steel profiles without any stitching or manipulation of leather. The teeth in the profile of the steel bars perfectly engage with the sling and keep it in suspense.
01
02
27
03
The Klein Home Collection 01 is stripped of complicated, processed materials. It rather finds its simplicity in the beauty of interweaving natural materials and plate steel profiles. Naturally dyed leather in the Rocker Low effortlessly flows between the two steel profiles.
04
The suspension of the leather piece is achieved without any additional materials manipulating the leather. The piece is merely cut to a perfect dimension and laser cut holes are punched through its ends allowing it to be seamlessly engaged with the ribbed steel cross bars.

The low profile of The Lounge invites you to sit down. Its wide side dimension begs you to stay. Whether whiskey in hand or your latest read, The Lounge enables “the long sit”. To allow you the most comfortable rest, an ottoman is added to the chair to allow for extra leg room.

The Klein Home Collection 01 uses not a single bolt or screw in its assembly. Materials engage seamlessly, without any distractions or interuptions.
01
31
02
Applied to all pieces in the collection, the client can choose between matte black powder coated steel or clear coated steel for the frame.
03
Naturally dyed leather cushions together with an oak base enhance the tactility of natural materials juxtaposed to the clean cut steel profiles.
02 04
04
Sourced in Belgium and worked by a local artisan, leather enters the collection in a range of warm tones and further softens the profile lines of the laser cut plate steel.
03
32
Be it in the gentlemen’s corner of your apartment or in the center spot of the living room, the Home Bar in its simplicity serves as a humble vessel for that collection of your most precious liquids. The top layer of natural stone gives a new material dimension to the piece and allows for an easy and pleasurable preparation of your favorite cocktail drinks on the spot.

The oak box resting within the steel frame is carefully handcrafted in our wood workshop, using only wood jointing techniques, avoiding the use of screws or bolts.
02
A clean Carrara marble top acts as an extra layer of shelving as well as a counter top ready for your drinks to be assembled right on the spot. Carrara pieces are milled to perfect dimension in Belgium.

03
Through the precision of laser cutting plate steel, the framework for the Home Bar can achieve elegant radiused corners.
04
A slendor, lasercut steel profile acts as a framework to suspend the oak box.
04
03
36
The simple thin steel profiles of The Table, softened by the radiused inner edges, serve one sole purpose: that of exposing the beauty of oak. The Table puts focus on the simplicity and natural beauty of materials. Be it natural or torched, the oak table top will last for generations.

The steel profiles elegantly capture the toasted oak, creating a sturdy top surface primed for a variety of different applications.
02
The client can choose between an oil sealed white oak finish or a torched oak finish. All wood pieces are handworked in our wood workshop and undergo a thorough finishing process before leaving the studio to the client.
02
01
39
03
The technique of torching wood - shou sugi ban, creates a thin protective coat on the wood’s surface, extending the material’s durability and longevity. Torched oak is designed to last.
03
40
Simplicity of form is the guiding force behind The Chair. The Chair seats a solid oak surface inside a robust, but minimal steel frame. The Klein Home Collection 01 offers several different height variations of The Chair, all designed with a careful attention to the changing needs of even the most specific applications.
41
The Chair
42
01
The Chair comes in four different variations - Dining Chair with high back (as shown on the picture above), Dining Chair with low back, Bar Stool and Counter Stool. For different dimensions of all Chairs in the Klein Home Collection 01, please see the Index (pg 64).
01
43
02
Torching of the white oak is an application of the ancient Japanese technique shou sugi ban and it creates a clean, natural protective coat on the wood surface, extending the chairs’ lifespan.
03
The oak and steel profiles of The Chair engage without any bolt or screw connections, further exposing the cleanliness and purity of materials.

Industrially tooled plates of steel are assembled into shape by local Belgian artisans, forming clean frames that capture warm natural materials.

After a design is digitally translated and laser cut from plate steel, we work closely together with artisans to achieve a precise and clean translation of our digital design into afinal shaped piece.

01
Our steel artisan measures a Rocker Low frame to ensure he accurately welds the crossbars in their exact position.
01
51
02
Care is taken to smooth out the connection detail between a tabbed, lasercut crossbar and a side profile for the Rocker Low. The special tabbed crossbar provides a line for engagement with the leather sling. A line of matching holes is lasercut into the sling to allow the leather to stretch over the steel tabs, making a secure connection for the seat.
02
52
01
Once the steel profiles are finished, all pieces go through our home studio for detailed inspection and when needed wood or leather insertion.

02
Relationship with artisans is of an upmost importance to our work and we cherish and appreciate their advice and experience from their field of expertise. By working with small local Belgian artisans, we can guarantee that the translation of our digital ideas into final pieces is as precise and smooth as possible.

An oak board is prepared before being cut for the Home Bar assembly.

Wood boards are jointed in our studio with clean and precise biscuit joints.
03
We source our oak from a local wood supply. The Klein Home Collection 01 uses white oak and offers it in two variations - oil sealed or torched.

The development of each product is a balance between control and chaos.

The collection is an assemblage of parts that come together lastly in the klein agency studio of Antwerp, Belgium. Each piece undergoes a final handworked assembly and thorough inspection before leaving the studio for its new owner.

The collection advances the longevity and beauty of oak wood by applying an ancient Japanese preservation technique - shou sugi ban - of torching the wood. Penetrating the first layer of oak planks with a fire flame, a protective layer is created, extending the material’s lifetime, durability, resistance to infestations, and water penetration.

A Carrara marble top is used in the construction as a top surface for the Home Bar. It undergoes precise machining by the factory to allow for it to engage with the laser cut steel frame.

Raw plates of natural stone sit in a warehouse just outside of Antwerp, Belgium. We take care to oversee all plates that will eventually become elements within the Klein Home Collection 01. Each stone is unique and has its own characteristics.

Klein Agency is a design-build, architecture and furniture design studio founded by Jon and Maša Kleinhample. Creatively rethinking the way in which people dwell, Klein Agency focuses on simple solutions to living well.
Klein Agency curates beautiful spaces, designs interiors, well-crafted products, furniture, branding strategies, and simple gatherings.
With a background in architecture and a working product design sister studio, LMBRJK (www.lmbrjk.com), Klein Agency is built on experience, an understanding of design processes and a desire to give spaces, products and brands new unexpected identities, rich in materials and attentive to details. Klein Agency understands and applies its’ design process in a holistic way, creating for its clients new untold stories, where all components come together in an elegant and coherent narration. Jon and Maša Kleinhample, started Klein Agency in January of 2015 with an idea to weave together their independent areas of expertise into one creative venture. Formally trained as an architect in Los Angeles, a city defined by the film industry’s inertia towards visualising dreams and radical forms, Jon designed for Neil Denari in Los Angeles, Asymptote Architects in New York and in Berlin for Barkow Leibinger Architects. In 2012 he started his first independent venture, a product design studio - LMBRJK. Coming from a background of international politics and public policy advising, Maša took a career turn and now acts as an integral creative and managing part of Klein Agency. Jon’s pedigree along with Maša’s Slovenian background, which intertwine a mixture of geometric acrobatics and a rich appreciation of raw materials, is what forms the principles behind Klein Agency. The Los Angelino-Slovenian couple made their way from Berlin to Antwerp several years ago, and in their headquarters on het Eilandje, launched their agency. After a year of curating beautiful spaces, building interiors and hosting their renown private dinner club sessions, the klein couple launched their first home collection in November of 2015.
